“Clean, comfortable and convenient in the heart of Torshavn”
Reviewed 23 June 2014 via mobile

I have stayed at Bladypi twice: once in a single room in the hostel part in 2009 and once in a single room in the guesthouse/hotel part in 2014.

My hostel room in 2009 was spartan but adequate.

My guesthouse/hotel room in 2014 was lovely and was in a very new part of the complex. Comfortable bed, good TV, very nice bathroom. My only criticism is that the window wouldn't open beyond a fraction and, absent any other means of cooling the room, a mere 12 degree day made the room feel quite warm.

Breakfast was included and was adequate. No gluten free bread provided despite advance notice as to my special dietary requirements, however I was forewarned by the travel agent (Greengate Incoming, based in Torshavn) that Bladypi does not cater for special dietary needs.

Bladypi is situated right next to a decent supermarket. Guesthouse/hotel guests can make use of the hostel kitchen for self catering although I did not do so.

Bladypi is excellently located in the heart of pretty Torshavn.

Things to be aware of:
- there is very little open in Torshavn on weekends, especially Sundays
- the reception area has limited hours (not a problem for checking in or out as keys can be left in a safe, but only an issue if you need assistance or travel advice etc)
- except on weekends and out of hours, parking around Bladypi is paid.

We recently stayed at the Bladypi hostel in Torshavn. We had booked online and hoped to be staying in the guesthouse as the reviews were quite positive, however we ended up in the hostel. What is not clearly stated is that they have three buildings: two in downtown Torshavn and one by the harbor.

In our opinion, the hostel was one of the worst we've stayed in. The rooms are on the bottom floor of a dark, somewhat dingy building. It feels as though you are staying in some type of institution as the windows are barred and the doors are reinforced with steel.

The kitchen seemed unkempt, with garbage overflowing, unclean dishes and dirty tables.

I think what affected us most was that the mattresses in the bedrooms were very uncomfortable and there were no blinders on the windows. We found it hard to sleep and were up much of our two nights there.

On the other hand the positives of this hostel included the location, as it was 5min from the bus/ferry terminal and 5 min from the city center. There was also a bakery/grocery store in the same building.

Overall we would not recommend this hostel to any of our family or friends, nor would we chose to stay here again.

Remember that this is a hostel and does not have things like phones in the rooms or daily cleaning. But, despite being rather basic, it is clean, quiet, very close to the center of town and run by very friendly and helpful people. The breakfast is standard but good.

We're glad we looked beyond the word "hostel" in our search for lodging that fit our budget. We are not experienced world travelers, but wanted a home base while attending an athletic competition. Our room was private with a very small bathroom, a table and two small beds. There was a kitchen down the hall that had a refrigerator to store our food. Although we are used to staying in USA chain hotels, this one really made us feel like we were in a foreign land. We used the rooms heaters to dry our clothes that we washed in the sink. There is a washer and dryer that you can pay to use by appointment. The narrow streets, harbor and small shops and restaurants made for quite an adventure. The locals were all friendly and everyone seemed to have a command of English. The friendly manager helped me work through obtaining a PIN for my credit card, something my card issuer never warned me about. The small grocery next door was a great way to explore the local diet and keep our food costs down. A highlight every day was the included breakfast buffet. Lots of choices both hot and cold. I notice that their web site now indicates that their new modern building is competed. If it is more expensive, I would not hesitate to stay in the older part to save.

Room Tip: Be sure to have a street map with you when you get off the bus so that you are ready for the ten or...

We were 3 touring by car based in Torshavn. So all we really wanted was a clean room with a decent bathroom in a not too inconvenient location. The Bladypi is 10 mins from the town centre, such as it is, with a large supermarket just at the doorstep. It's a bit of a walk with lugage from the bus terminal - where the airport bus drops you in town. A standard breakfast, and a clean fairly sized room met all our needs. The managers were friendly and helpful. A good value choice.

Spent three nights here on holiday in April. They have three types of accommodation on offer, I opted for B&B. Budget options are limited in Torshavn, and this guest house has the huge advantage of being at the bottom of the hill less than a 10 minute walk from the harbour / bus station (the bus / ferry station has lockers where excess luggage can be left for those on short stop-overs).

The room was a good size with a comfortable bed. The en-suite bathroom small but clean with a good powerful shower. Breakfast was a plentiful self service buffet served in the modern dining room. Don't be surprised if you see very little of the staff during your stay, they are merely giving you plenty of privacy :-)

There is not much to complain about with this one, and that is unusual for me. Overall, it's very central, handy for shops, bars, etc. and the management are very helpful. I stayed in 2 rooms, one a dorm and the other a single. With both, I felt I paid a very good price considering what I got: bed linen, wifi, good-sized rooms. The only one thing that could be considered a problem is the amount of stairs you have to climb, but I'd definitely stay there again.
