Review of Eggjarnar

Eggjarnar

This place, called 'the edges', is a bunch of sea cliffs in the Faroe Islands. You approach from the top and get as close as you dare to the edge, and then you can see crashing blue waves and and dramatic vertical cliffs! One of my favourite stops in Suðuroy...

I would absolutely recommend everyone who visits the Faroe Islands to visit this place in Suðuroy (the southernmost island). Be careful not to fall over the edge, and enjoy the fantastic scenery. You stand on the top of a mountain which ends suddenly and turns into a vertical cliff, and you see right down to the braking waves of the North Atlantic more than 200 meters below you. Eggjarnar is the edge of a row of mountains south of the village Vagur in Suduroy, Faroe Islands. A narrow, curvy roads leads all the way up to the edge of the mountain, it is a 15 minutes drive from Vagur. The road stops around 20 meters from the edge. The view is fantastic up there; one can see the vertical cliffs on the west coast of Suduroy. Towards south there is Beinisvord, a 469 meters high vertical sea cliff. Between Beinisvord and Eggjarnar there is Lopranseidi, west of the village Lopra, where a Dutch ship, called Westerbeek, went shipwreck in 1742. A Loran-C station was built on Eggjarnar during World War II. There are still some ruins up there, remains from the war. The Faroe Islands were occupied by Great Britain. The view towards north is also great and shows Skúvanes, Vágseiði and Gjógvaráfjall.
