“Loved loved loved it”
Reviewed 12 August 2013 for a stay in July 2013

We stayed for a week. We have been to this area of Spain before and if feels very Spanish. The good points are the size of the villa the photos do not do it justice it is huge as is the outdoor space, the bathrooms are both 4 piece and the pool is as good as it looks. This has to be the best equipped villa I have stayed in, everything you may have forgotten is here from inflatables to adapters to caps to you name it, good kitchen has a BBQ and washing machine worked well( we travelled Ryan air light). There is limitless hot water despite us all having showers no one had a cold one . The pool is gorgeous and very peaceful and boy do you need a pool. This is southern Spain it is hot lie by the pool in the afternoon. There are 2 bars in the village we ate in both and they were great friendly and our stilted Spanish got us through. NB paella has to be ordered the day before, El torcal is a must as is Antequera. We also got to Granada Alhambra is lovely but Granada very touristy.
Here are potential less good points. The villas decor is slightly dated however this is reflected in the price and we loved it as it as it felt like staying in someone's home and very comfortable. Also you were left alone no owner knocking to check if ok. The villa is rural. You are in the middle of a farming valley, there are goats chickens farm cats and dogs peacocks and no large supermarket . This takes a day or two to relax into but please do when you embrace it it will restore you and the goats are just beautiful . Lying by the pool listening to the bells and watching the shepherd and his dogs bring ing them in for milking became a highlight. As was the pap of the neighbours bread van bring your fresh loaf every morning.
My advice get a day flight stock up in Malaga and chill, wander down to the bar of an evening play cards like the Spanish and talk ( although there is English tv). Go into Malaga ( surprisingly lovely in the old town and you can get bus from airport)on your last day and read up on the area before you go as there is not much info at the villa( the one bad point), you will return to your life relaxed and renewed as only true Spain can make you and this villa can provide all you need.
Last practical note owner very flexible re dates and transfer days even in high season and also very reasonable on check out times.

Thank you for your reviews. The views etc are definitely much nicer than the photos and the people at the owners of the two Bars in Pastelero are so friendly and make you feel at home. My two nearest neighbours are also nice and friendly although they cannot speak English.
It is peaceful but also not too far from many attractions like the the Wolves, El Torcal etc.

It was lovely to have you as a family in my villa.
Kind regards

Pam West

“Idyllic setting amongst the mountains”

We've stayed in 5 different villas over the past 5 years in Andalucia and all have been of a high quality. Pondarosa is the same. However, what sets this apart is its location. Very rural and agricultural yet within easy reach of 2 beautiful nearby villages 10 mins away in either direction, and around 45 mins away from the coast. The area has a less "touristy" feel to it than the other side of El Torcal near Competa or Comares and feels wonderfully spanish. I'm quite used to driving on the Andalucian mountain roads and this experience helps as some roads around the villa and in the surrounding area are quite narrow and winding. Sat Nav's are particularly useful for finding your way around.

El Torcal is 20 mins away. Great for walking or climbing and again wonderful views. El Chorro Gorge is another must see and is less than 1 hour away.

A good meal is at the bottom of the road at the bar named Vento Pastelero. All sorts of grilled meat and fish on offer at very good prices. Service friendly too.

Antequerra is around 35 mins away and I'll just say, visit here. You will not be disappointed whatever your taste. We went 3 times during our 2 week stay and did something different on each occasion.

Temperatures inland tend to be a little hotter during the day than the coast so, if travelling at the height of the season, be ready for temperatures exceeding 40 degrees centrigrade. We had several days in the mid 40's and 1 day that was actually above 50. The hottest we've ever encountered anywhere. Therefore the pool at the villa was more than welcoming.

We spent most time outside and the large pool area is private and good fun. A long hose is within easy access and the pool can be topped up daily to ensure it stays in good condition. Unlike other areas, this one has plenty water supply and no restrictions. Occasionally water pressure is affected at busy times of day but water always runs to the villa.

Next, the decking area. I loved sitting out here every morning at sunrise to enjoy my morning tea and then sitting out later at night with wine. The views from here are truly magnificent and the night sky has no light polution enabling easy viewing of the stars. There is also the outside dining area which is partly sheltered from the blazing sun and a BBQ sits here too for guests to use.

Inside, the villa itself was very well equipped and the rooms were all of a good size. There are 2 bathrooms (1 is en-suite) but we tended to use the shower area by the pool as this was so easy once coming out from a dip. The kitchen again was well equipped with mod-cons you may expect from home. The living area boasted a large flat screen TV and many BBC and ITV channels can be accessed for those who need a little respite from the heat outside.

The villa had ceiling fans in the living area and portable fans for the bedrooms. Obviously air conditioning offers much more comfort therefore, to enjoy a decent sleep, try placing the fans with their backs to an open window at night which encourages the drawing in of the cooler night air. At times of year when the temperatures are more moderate than the height of summer this wouldn't be an issue anyway.

Finally, we'd like to comment on the owner Pam who was lovely and very helpful. Either by phone, email, or text she was responsive, friendly, and an absolute star. We felt we came to know her and would love to adopt her into our own family!
