“Good, friendly, well presented rooms, nice little dog”
Reviewed 12 January 2014

We ended up here on a winter evening as our first choices selected via web were closed over Xmas/January. Katya (daughter of the hosts) speaks excellent english and was very helpful and friendly. It seems they acquired the place a couple of years ago - they are portugese and have been in luxembourg several years, but only recently in vianden. The parents don't speak english i think, but Katya more than made up for that.

The rooms are well presented and in good condition and a nice size. It looks like it was recently repainted etc. The bathrooms are separate from the rooms and since we were the only ones there we chose the top two rooms which had access to the largest bathroom and were at the back of the hotel (quieter and looks up the hillside). Bathrooms on lower levels were smaller. Extra blankets in cupboard. Everything clean and fresh looking.

Great wifi internet - almost essential for us these days.

It has a good location, halfway up the hill to the castle. No parking but then very few places there have parking. We found a park spot nearby (winter so not busy)

Non-smoking which is great for us.

Several levels of winding staircase prepare you for the walk up the hill to the castle, so only for the fit and whose suitcases are not too big.
A bonus for us is always a dog and schnoopy is a cute probably bit spoilt by guests little dog.

Restaurant repainted and clean etc but could use some softening decor. Breakfast was great - coffee was the best we'd had for a few days. Portugese dishes as well as other normal dishes (wurst, burgers, pizzas, salads) for dinner.

Room Tip: Choose rooms at the back (those cobbled streets are very nice especially when cars accelerate up the...

My 3 friends and I stopped there for a late lunch and it did not take us much time to notice the poor quality of service.
The waiter complained several times because we had change tables.
Then he tried many times to discourage us to order food because it was going to take an extra 15 minutes to get served...we kept on saying we were fine with that, until we started wondering whom that effort was bothering the most...
He then complained because we asked for ice cubes, stating that he was not used to serve them in their soft drinks..
After all of that, he mentioned that their poor service was "your fault" since we had changed tables...
As we were leaving he - in a very rude way - rejected the luxembourg meal vouchers stating he was not an obligation to accept them...
All of that without a sign of a smile on their face...
In 3 words : Worst - Service - Ever !

We stayed here for just 1 night, having not booked any accommodation in Vianden. The host's didn't speak a word of English (which was fine) and after 5 minutes of sign language we managed to secure a room for the night at a price of 60 Euros. Being the only guests in the hotel, we had the choice of 2 rooms - both of which were lovely. We chose the slightly more modern looking room! The bed was comfy, we had a small balcony with a couple of chairs on it, there was also a sink in the room with a nice big mirror. The bathroom was located just across the hallway from our room - being the only guests this was ok. The bathroom was fairy small but it was clean and the shower worked! Vianden itself is beautiful - definitely worth the road trip to get there - but we aware that it is a VERY quiet town. We ventured out after showers at around 7pm to find something to eat - it appeared everywhere was shut. There was a greasy looking kebab place (which as hungry as we were didn't tempt us!) so we ended up eating at our hotel. We sat outside and had a bowl of soup and some chips and a hamburger. The food was actually really nice and very cheap. We decided to call it an early night as there was really not much else going on. The bar inside seemed to be a bit of a local hangout and kept us awake late into the night.. very noisy and seemed to get louder the more the drinks were consumed!
As we had a long drive the next day we "checked out" at approx 6:30am. This involved us heading downstairs to the front door (which is in the bar) and trying to figure out how to unlock it as no one was up! We ended using our room key to get out, lock the door behind us and posting it back through the letter box. Hope they got it!
Overall - a memorable experience!
