Take the chair lift up for the excellent views, then walk across to the castle. Inside is a museum about the history of the castle & surrounding area. Next walk around the castle itself, taking in the views & find out about how it was restored, as it was a ruin for many years.
Afterwards walk down to the nearby medieval town walls, there’s a great view back to the castle & a siege machinery themed children’s playground.

The castle was okay, I personally was not that impressed with the castle itself, I mean the structure and interior, but the view outside was great. The city was very peaceful and the castle is surrounded by so much green that made the castle worth the visit.

Sadly, the wonderful exterior of this castle houses an interior that is completely out of sync.

The internal design is not original and many areas are roped off, preventing closer inspection.

On the day visited, to add to the “fun”, set up or tear down of alot of market stalls selling cheap tat was taking place.

Many cars driving in and out, and endless stall owners carrying boxes everywhere did NOT enhance my visit as a paying customer at all

Based on my experience, my advice is to enjoy the wonderful exterior view of the castle, and to save yourself the cost of the entrance fee

Visited during heatwave and read other reviews so didnt take telesiege as walking in nearly 40degrees intense. Paid to park on road opposite entrance. Good photos outside, 20euros entry 2 adults and a teen. Didn't feel authentic inside, stuffy cafe no terrasse. Worst aspect was clearly setting up for craft fayre so vans unloading, blocking paths and blocking artefacts. Felt totally ripped off, not even anywhere to sit as we found a banquet hall, lovely and cool, but roped off and no drinks. My advice in hot weather take some photos and head to Freibad Vianden to swim and cool off with a great view of the castle.

Chances are if you're in Luxembourg (or researching it) you've realised there's not loads to do.... It's worth the 1 hour each way journey out to see this place. The castle is a cool sight sitting atop a cliff overlooking a pretty village, although a walk around the interior is slightly underwhelming - entry €6. The village itself is really picturesque and there's a few nice places to have a beer and people watch.
So the journey, as I said takes an hour from Luxembourg central station. Take the RB train from Lux Central to Ettelbruck where you change onto the 570 bus. Your €4 day ticket will cover travel on both services, return. The bus stop is located to your left as you exit the train platform, it's easy to find, you'll see all the other buses parked up. Enjoy :)
