I was involved in organising a formal event for 108 people in Le Sud. We actually booked out the restaurant and bar/terrace for the entire night. All our dealings with the restaurant were very professional, from choosing the menu and wine, arranging the table plans to giving the kitchen our guests' special dietary requirements.
We started the evening with a drinks reception on the fifth floor bar/terrace area. The seating had been moved to make it easier for the guests to mingle which was ideal. Later we descended to the fourth floor dining room through the kitchen which was a lovely surprise for our guests. The dining room, as alway, looked extremely elegant.
The food was absolutely delicious. After the first spoonful of the amuse bouche, everyone at my table remarked how good it was. This praise continued throughout the starter, main course, dessert and coffee/mignardises.
We must have been a nightmare for the kitchen as between every course we held an auction to raise money for charity. Even though we had given the kitchen a time table, we were miles out even sitting down for dinner! However, the staff coped very well and never complained.
Even though the food and wine was amazing, I have to say that the best things about Le Sud were the staff and the level of service. Every single member of staff was professional but in a friendly manner. Each course was announced to the table and if we had any queries, they were answered immediately. Wine glasses were refilled almost by magic (it seems the staff have ninja qualities because you don't even notice they were beside you!). I would like to give special praise to the maitre d' and the sommelier for such wonderful service.
After dinner, we moved back upstairs to the bar/terrace area where we had hired a DJ until 03:00. The bar staff continued to serve until that time and every request for a drink (no matter how strange the drink seemed to them) was dutifully actioned.
I would definitley reccommend to anyone looking to organise a large event to consider Le Sud. It may be a little bit more expensive that other restaurants, but given the quality of the food, the impeccable service and the elegant venue, it is well worth it and you (and your guests) won't regret it.
