Excellent, friendly and good value

This was our third visit to North Cyprus. Our previous 2 stays were at some big, expensive hotels. Our holidays were nice but all seemed overpriced and full of rich gamblers rushing in out to their Casinos.

This time we have decided to use a more relaxed, friendlier and reasonably priced Hotel in a better part of Kyrenia. We have just spent 2 weeks in this very nice hotel in December 2013. We found the staff and the management spoke perfect English, were extremely polite and willing to help whenever asked. The public areas and our room were perfectly adequate and comfortable. Now and again small maintenance problems occurred but they were fixed immediately. The Hotel was full but all the staff was attentive and worked hard to keep all of us happy.

We are surprised to read some of guest’s complaint about the room being cold. We had centrally heated room and hot air condition with plenty blankets and duvets. The room was very very comfortable cosy and warm.

The breakfast which was a very rich buffet (varied with the usual cereals, cold meats and cheeses, salads, fried and boiled eggs, fruits lovely jams and honey and some very nice bread , fruit juices, tea and coffee) was served between 8 – 10 am.However,we were never hurried and were served until we finished and were ready to leave. All in all the breakfast was very enjoyable and very relaxed

We ate in the restaurant many nights. It was very good both with the choices on offer and the quality of the food

We are surprised to see some reviews saying some negative comments. The room, breakfast, staff and the Hotel in general was very very good.

Overall this was an excellent choice of hotel and we would definitely recommend this to any one wanting to stay in a nice part of Kyrenia without any Casino/Gambling customer noises.

We stayed for 3 weeks over the xmas and new year period and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had booked 3 rooms for my husband and I and my teenage son and mother. Hubbie and I stayed in the new block in room 412 which overlooks the pool and it was perfectly fine. Sheets and towels changed daily and a good clean as well. The showerhead in the bathroom was a problem a couple of times but one call to reception and it was fixed within minutes. My son and mother had garden rooms, one with a small terrace to the front and the other with a larger terrace overlooking the beautiful gardens and the mountains. Upon arrival both rooms were a little cold but after putting the aircon/heater on for a while everthing was fine. Again, both these rooms were cleaned and sheets and towels replaced on a daily basis. We were on half board for 2 weeks and the food was okay although my son ate from the a la carte menu several times. We received a discount for this so that was very good. The a la carte menu is very good and has european and turkish meals available and the standard is much higher than that of the half board menu which is to be expected. We enjoyed the xmas day meal although as previously stated the veg was a bit undercooked but not a problem. If you go away for xmas then I don't think you can expect to have perfect mince pies and puds as this is a muslim country and the items offered are their interpretation of these items. If things like this are important to you then I think a stay in the UK is probably the best option. My husband had raging toothache on xmas eve and after speaking to Ram the owner he then rang a dentist and a taxi to take us there. The dentist was brilliant and I can't thank Ram enough for his help and guidance. All the staff at the Ship are friendly and approachable and do everything they can to make your stay as comfortable as possible. A special mention to Zube (Head Waiter) and Ramazan who went out of their way to be as helpful and kind as always. We love staying at the Ship and will continue to do so as it is so handy for the Lemarr Supermarket up the road and also the Wine shop opposite which is very good. The dolmus stops just in front of the Ship and it only takes minutes to get into town for a very small payment. Can't wait to return for yet another holiday (lost count how many times I have been there now !!!!)

Room Tip: If you want a mountain view pick south facing rooms in the new block. Rooms in the hotel itself are...

We have just returned from a pleasant week stay at the Ship Inn. I had contacted the hotel prior to going to explain that I am disabled ans querying the suitability, I need not have worried at all, there were no limitations as to where I could access. We stayed in room 312, which had a nice small balcony on the ground floor. What is called a garden room. The choice of food could have been a bit better but what there was was nicely presented and there is an a la carte menu if you want to upgrade your meal.
Apart from the hotel staff being very cheerful and helpful, we used the dolbus (local mini-buses) to get around and all of the drivers were very pleasant even with having to get my disability scooter on and off where ever we wanted.
All in all we had a nice stay with sun every day and temperatures around the 20 mark

Room Tip: Room 312, a garden room is nice with a nice outlook towards the mountains and the back.

Room given on arrival dull, stuffy, cold and in need of update. Showers next morning flooded the bathroom. Turned out they new that silicon around bath was leaking but put us in the room anyway as they did not have another one (maybe they should not have sold it to us). Were moved to another room after waiting for it to be ready for 2 hours (and would have waited longer if we had not asked). There was no apology at all. New room was ok, but mattress was not very comfortable and shower temperature variable.
Breakfast was ok, but on New Years morning was removed from under our noses by 10am as on any other day (would have been nice to have it a little more relaxed on that day).
Reason for two stars rather than one is the indoor swimming pool with jacuzzi, which was really nice. Also outside facilities are attractive - shame about the rest. Not recommended.

We took advantage of a 3 day Christmas break offer at the Ship this year. Welcome was good, convenient parking. We had a garden room which was pleasant but cold & damp when we arrived. We found duvets in the cupboard but they had not been aired and smelt musty. However using the air-conditioning on the heat setting solved this.

The hotel was busy with mostly British visitors who were very friendly. The staff spoke good English.

We were on half board. Food was plentiful, some really good, some not so good. It was mainly an international menu and we felt it was a shame that no local cuisine was evident. There was a good choice of cooked and cold food for breakfast with very nice bread.

We were disappointed by the Christmas dinner (supplement was charged). The salmon starter and pate were nice. We chose turkey with trimmings for the main. The turkey was cooked but the vegetables were hard and undercooked. For the rest, I think the chef needs lessons from someone British on how to roast potatoes, make mince pies and cook a Christmas pudding. I was also disappointed that the only sugar-free drinks available were water or diet Pepsi (which they said was Coke!). I do not appreciate being obliged to drink water all Christmas!

The main disappointment was the lack of Christmas - The hotel was decorated and there was entertainment on Christmas night but only one Christmassy song was played all evening. I hadn't realised that Northern Cyprus is predominantly Muslim and does not generally celebrate Christmas. As we had booked a Christmas special offer we expected I expected more than just a passing nod to Christmas this.

That being said, the hotel is conveniently positioned close to the centre of Kyrenia with local buses passing the door regularly. The staff are friendly and our break was not too expensive. I would stay at the Ship Inn again if I was in the area

Room Tip: We prefered the rooms around the pool to those on the first floor in the main hotel. Avoid rooms tha...

My first vist , will consider doing the same next Christmas . Very friendly staff the place is a bit dated but clean and very pleasant area you can overlook the pool or the mountains. If you do not like the set menu you can have the al a carte menu at a additional cost.

TV upgrade since we last stayed with flat screens, with better reception. Used the indoor pool -due to season and it was always comfortably warm. As was said quirks- the menagerie, the old fashioned decor etc and the staff make it, with their team spirit and attention. New female Filipino staff- Ace and her partner were always cheery and worked non-stop to keep rooms and common areas clean and stocked. Availed myself of a massage this time, well worth it, with Romanian Adele. Handy for both Kyrenia and Lambousa direction without some of the bustle of Kyrenia. Would Rec. Cacao (on the left twds Kyrenia) for Italian style food incl. Pizza's and Amazing Icecreams , drinks and desserts as well as in opp. direction -near Chrystal Merit Casino , Kervans (Next to Kervansaray beach/bay) for their new Prawn Fajitas. Day Trip to Famagusta , Salamis et al with Yosef was extremely enjoyable, informative and VERY good value for money.
Room for Improvement : More changes/rotation needed to breakfast of heated food e.g. last time we had occ. mushrooms, fresh grapefruit, better sos I think and bacon? What about some female staff integrated into serving at tables etc? Sky channel in Rooms ?

Room Tip: 01 rooms are at the end -so more like apart-room with that bay window Xtra space
