“VERY VERY BRITISH”
Reviewed 10 March 2014

a very traditional style, set of 6 three floor blocks arround the largish swimming pool, as opposed to the mighty modern hotels / casinos that have sprung up over recent years ( ie The Merit group of Hotels). Bookings are 90% british , and at out of season such as March, are predominantly over 55's , In the big hotels with casinos it is very multinational with a very large Russian ( a liking for the machines ).
The rooms differ a little, some more up to date than others, but quite cumfy, and mostly have pool or mountain views.
Staff are VERY friendly, speak good English, as do so many people here who are well used to Brits that have moved to this part of the island. Bit like Spain i suppose.
Plenty of bars and eating places, mostly run by Brits who find this the most appropriate employment opportunity.
Go up to Bellapaise monastry,
If you can manage the early start needed, go by car right up to the 'panhandle' furthest easterly point. Go along the coast road which has recently been considerably upgraded and far faster now.The desolate beach ( golden beach ) there is awesome and will be a lifelong reminder that you have walked along possibly the most wonderfull beach, certainly in Cyprus, mayby the world.. If you want to make that trip an adventure, stay there overnight, at the very basic, but facinating ,Livana beach hotel / huts on stilts, or you could play safer, but book ahead , in the more upmarket Blue Sea Hotel 03923722393

This is a very friendly hotel not big but just right, lots of sun beds and room around the pool. Hotel room was good and cleaned daily, we found all the staff very helpful if you needed anything. The local bus to town was very frequent so you can go to town anytime, we rented a car from the hotel to which was very reasonable

Room Tip: Choose a south side room for the best views

Just had 10 days here and really enjoyed it.There is a very friendly atmosphere at the hotel both amongst staff and guests.Stayed Half Board and as a vegetarian I was very pleased with the food.On the nights when there was no vegetarian option on the set menu I was offered a dish from the A La Carte menu.Prices in the bar are only a nominal amount more than if you go out to a bar and the mini bar in the room also has good prices. The staff go out of their way to be helpful and accommodate any special requests that you may have.If you want to go into town then it is within walking distance or 2.5 TL by Dolmus. All in all a great place to stay.

We spent a week at the Ship Inn in February and had a very enjoyable time, we plan to go back this autumn. It is a very nice little hotel with very friendly staff. The only thing that spoiled our holiday was that we went with Mercury Direct.

Room Tip: Get a mountain view.

Thoroughly enjoyed our three week stay. Everything was of an excellent standard and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Ideally situated for sightseeing and walking. Really liked the spaciousness of the complex and the indoor swimming pool was a plus.

Room Tip: We looked over the mountains and got the sun most of the day.

My wife and I have just returned from a lovely, sunny three weeks in North Cyprus - our first visit to The Ship. Overall a great value for money stay in a comfortable hotel:-

The Good...... The Waiting Staff; Zube & Adil especially. All friendly & yet not over familiar. The cleaners.... Lovely, lively and always busy & eager to please and who did not intrude if we were in when they came to clean our room. Mohammed, on reception..always had a smile; seemed to say "Good morning;Good afternoon; Good evening; and Good night" - on the same day!!! The situation...peaceful...just outside the casino riddled Girne -(easily walkable or 2TL on passing Domus minibuses) The scenery...especially if you have a view of the mountains & St Hilarian all lit up at night. The guests - lovely atmospere; a 'home from home'...made lots of new friends and very sad to leave. The food...all very edible, even though the set menu choice was reduced from 3 to 2 options whilst we were there. The facilities were generally good...the indoor pool was warm enough; the outdoor pool looked tempting but was not heated; the pool bar opened half way through our stay and provided afternoon tea & cake for 8TL. Tea & coffee making facilities & safes were provided free in each room (but our safe was broken)

The Bad....A lack of information telling guests what was available. A leaflet in each room was needed to list options such as.... omelets were offered free for breakfast; bacon could be ordered but was charged for (I even overheard someone order a full English breakfast but I don't know if this was available!) The half board set menu could be upgraded to a la carte and a discount given for the upgrade (although the cost of this was confusing- Hasib on reception confirmed the 50% discount mentioned in previous reviews; but the waiting staff allowed only a 20% discount - check before you order!) Half Board was not suitable for Vegetarians as sometimes only meat options were available. Provision of coffee & tea was erratic & guests told not to bring bought food and drink into rooms. No internet access in inside bar only in reception and outside bar. No information about turning on /off the Jacuzzi.

The Ugly..... a few Health & Safety issues - getting in and out of the Jacuzzi !...a broken light with bare wires in the indoor pool mens changing room. Caged birds (pheasants etc.)with little space to exercise - why? Cats everywhere, indoors and out, even in the bar and restaurant! Not a warm welcome on arrival or departure -( it must have been Mohammed's hour off) The culprit needs to learn to smile and use the words please and thank you....maybe an enquiry about enjoying our stay?

Room Tip: Face the mountains - ever changing vista.
