“Luxury Hotel, fantastic staff, extortionate drinks”
Reviewed 27 May 2010

We stayed for 2 weeks on a HB basis.

The food at breakfast and dinner was excellent.

Breakfast has everything you could possibly want with an eggscellent egg station with the happiest egg and pancake chef in the world. Dinner always has 2 soups, an amazing salad / meze selection and a huge choice of mains every evening, couldn't faultthe quality once in 2 weeks. The staff in the restaurants are great and soon get to know you.

The pool area is lovely, the comfy sunbeds as in the pictures on their website are amazing (but get there early or you won't get one as there are only 6)

Our room was OK, we got moved from a twin to a double (at our request) but the double room was a lot smaller than the twin with no sofa or seating area which is what we had been promised when booking.

Gym was good (or so my husband told me), and never too busy.

The drinks however are very expensive (go and hang around the casino, don't forget your passport and get a free one), cheapest bottle of wine was about £20, £3 for a coke, £4 for an orange juice..... ouch.... most people at dinner were just drinking water so it obviously wasn't only us that thought they were a bit steep.

Watch out for uneven pavements around the hotel and roads around a few people took tumbles (including me) while we were there.

We stayed at the Rocks Hotel for 10 nights on our honeymoon and decided to treat ourselves to a bit of luxury. They made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived, looking very scruffy after travelling all day - not really like we belonged ina 5 star hotel! The rooms in the hotel are great, with massive beds, a large seating area & all the facilities you could want. It was fairly quiet when we were there but the service was fantastic, with attentive staff, especially the breakfast waiters. The pool area is great with lots of differnent areas to sit & sunbathe & really comfy sunbeds. Unfortunately the weather took a turn for the worst whilst we were there so we didn't really get to take full advantage of this (although the minute it started raining you were suddenly covered in umbrellas by the pool attendant!) & it would have been nice to jump off the decking into the sea. Kyrenia itself has a lovely harbour with some amazing restaurants but beyond that there isn't too much to see, it's very much a locals town beyond the tastefully touristy bits - it's well worth hiring a car & driving up into the mountains. Nicosia is also not really worth driving to in our opinion! The best fish restaurant is Blue Lagoon, just around the corner from the hotel, it looks nothing from the outside but did the most amazing fish meze at really good value - well worth a visit! Breakfast in the hotel is great with more choice than you know what to do with - you could easily make breakfast, lunch & dinner out of all the different foods on the buffet!! There is also a patiserrie in the lobby where you can get a full English afternoon tea and 2 free computers for internet access. The locaton is great, on the sea front & close to the main area - we also considered staying at the Colony Hotel but I would definitely say Rocks is in a better location.

Good quality hotel with discreet professional staff. Amazing choice of food in the buffet restaurant. A la carte restaurant looked good, but did not try it. Beautiful clean and comfortable rooms. Beds rather hard - bit like sleeping on a shelf.

just returned from 10 day stay ar Rocks Hotel. Truly 5 star hotel with 5 star service The excellently trained staff in all departments could not be faulted. Breakfast buffet amazing and on our last night we also tried the buffet dinner which too was such good value. Enormous selection in both buffets. Breakfast started eadh morning with freshly squeezed orange juice. You could also have cooked breakfast, the chef did fried eggs, omelettes, etc to order. Pool and decking areas really comfortable and well stocked with loungers, towels etc, steps leading down into the Mediterranean Sea. Red Flag days when stormy. Previous reviews on "raw sewage" - not sure if accurate or not: hard to tell if it was seaweed (yes, some plastic ba\gs!) or something much nastier, but this flotsam never actually came into Rocks swimming area and the pool staff did warn people on those days that they entered the sea at their own risk. I also indulged in some treatments in the hotel's Spa - Turkish Bath and Swedish Massage - again very high standard of comfort and care. Northern Cyprus weather far too hot for me (I am aged 65) but for those wanting a sunshine holiday I would thoroughly recommend this hotel. Very good value as not yet in the Eurozone so 2.4 Turkish lira to the £ sterling a welcome change for other European results. So well done Rocks and congratulations to staff and management.

We stayed here for two weeks in August and I am glad we chose this location. Everything about The Rocks oozes class. All the staff were first class, very friendly and extremely helpful. Everything was spotless and the food was very good. They have a very good spa area delivering an excellent gym, a good sized sauna and turkish bath as well as separate rooms for a range of different massages but if lazing by the pool is your thing then the Rocks has one of the very best. The water is very clean and clear and there is always someone on hand to get you a sun bed / shade and a very refreshing drink. The icing on the cake for my wife was the brilliant concert starring Gloria Gaynor whilst we were there - a stroke of luck! We had a wonderful relaxing time and as a result for the first time we will be booking to go back to the same location again.

We arrived late at night and everything was ready. Complimentary coffee was sent for and the bell boy whipped our stuff upstairs. Overall the staff were very attentive to us especially the young kyrgyzstan girl in the coffee bar. She was always very pleasant with excellent English. A special mention also for the customer service manager who was always attentive and caring. She arranged for free transport to 2 excellent restaurants. bellapais being one of them. Down side were the 2 miserable girls who sometimes did the night shift.

Rooms where always spotless and well maintained.

There where a number of gamblers this also being a casino but we had no problem with them although occasionally ignorant to the staff. The Spa was also well worth a visit but my wife was put off by the occasional professional ladies acompanying the gamblers!

The breakfast was good and the 2 meals we ate in was OK without shouting about it. The Chinese was absolutely superb. Only gripe was the cost of beer. A bottle was 9lira across the road in the Casino beach side cafe it was 5lira for a bigger bottle. £55 for a glass of XO in the hotel but I'd just dropped £600 in the casino so that was OK. mentioning the casino...booze is free...and doubles too.

The pool and its surrounds were excellent and very clean. The staff were attentive without being intrusive. But....4 days of red flag with jellyfish problems...one of the jellyfish was called turd i think and it was wearing an Andrex scarf cos thats what it looked like to me! Shame really they could have made more of an effort to clean it up. You cannot really swim in the sea at this hotel forget it. sea was always too rough and flotsam does gather in this hotel's area.
