“Good all round hotel”
Reviewed 29 May 2014

I visited this hotel for the first time in January and again in March. The team are very friendly and extremely helpful, the hotel is very clean and the food is is good. This hotel is ideal for business, families or couples and has a lovely reasonably priced spa. The pool area is lovely and the beach is within stepping distance. A good all rounder!

We came back from a wonderful week long stay at the Mediterranean Beach last week and felt it was time I wrote my review of this truly lovely hotel.

We stayed in room 407 (next door to BruceNB who wrote a review below and was there the same time as us!) which was a superior sea view and I echo what most other reviewers say in that it is definitely worth paying extra for a sea view. Our room was perfect, quiet, lovely balcony, very comfortable king size bed and all the facilities that you need for a hotel stay. The bathroom was spacious and had beautiful toiletries available.

We didn't use the mini-bar and hardly looked at the television but noticed there were a few English channels. The tea and coffee making facilities were a nice extra and there was loads of storage space plus cosy bath robes and slippers available and it was nice to have the extra sitting area included in a superior room.

I agree with BruceNB that the free wi-fi was very intermittent and getting a full signal was very difficult but, it was included in the price of a superior room and when alls said and done you don't go on holiday to spend the whole time on-line!

The buffet breakfast each morning was delicious, a huge choice, whether hot or cold, full English or continental. It was a blissful way to start each day sitting outside on the terrace overlooking the beautiful hotel grounds enjoying the gorgeous weather.

The staff at the Mediterranean Beach were all very friendly and helpful, especially those at breakfast time, always a smile and a 'good morning' they all seemed genuinely pleased to see us every morning. Special thanks to Alexandra in Concierge, in the reception area, she was amazing and so helpful in making our 'anniversary' even more special. Our room was kept clean and tidy by the cleaning staff although we did wonder why every afternoon a maid would knock on our door, offer us a mint and ask us if all was ok?! A nice touch I suppose but equally a bit irritating a couple of times as one time she just came in when there was no answer to find my other half just in his underwear!!

We only ate at the hotel one evening, we had the carvery buffet which was nice. A good selection of food and, again, lovely staff. We decided against going again feeling that it was a bit too expensive for us and we always prefer to try out and support the local restaurants. The entertainment that evening was 'interesting' and at one point we did worry that the acrobat/dancer was going to end up face first in our soup as our table was so near the dance floor! But, it all added up to the experience of the hotel and made us laugh!!

The swimming pool and grounds were lovely and beautifully kept, the private beach area was great and we also tried the small pool bar a couple of times which served tasty (large!) wraps and delicious ice-cream (try the yogurt and pomegranate - yum!). There were always pool loungers available, either by the pool or on the grass area towards the sea even though we did notice that some people were obviously up early and staking their place each day with the beach towels!! We tried the indoor pool too which was very quiet.

Beach towels were given out on presentation of a card that you get when you check in this, this system worked well and you could get a fresh towel whenever you wanted.

We will definitely return to the Mediterranean Beach if we ever visit Cyprus again and have no hesitation in recommending it. Many thanks to all who work there and who made our trip so fabulous.

Room Tip: Pay extra for a sea view or superior room! Room 407 was perfect

I am a regular customer in Mediterranean Beach Hotel Spa and from the first day everyone was very polite and helpful. A great thank you to the spa manager Maria Rigou she is a happy person and all together a positive energy in the spa i could not imagine anyone spa without her.
I would like to mention Lena as well because by my opinion she is one of the best therapist in the spa. I think that they could be the best spa in Cyprus. I bought some gift vouchers as well for my friends and everyone now is a regular, I'm sure there is a reason for that. Amazing atmosphere, relaxing, very clean and at the best prices with great offers now and then!

The hotel has a plaque "one of the leading hotels of the world", but good as it is, that is over stating a bit. That being said, it is certainly very good, a four star gem between a couple of five stars. To be truthful, I wouldn't swap it for either of them, or the two other five star hotels on the way into Limassol. The Mediterranean Beach had a character that seemed singularly lacking in the so-called higher grade hotels.

The Mediterranean Beach is beautifully placed and very well designed to provide pools and gardens that really work effectively for the guests.

The place never seemed crowded during our stay from 13-20 May and there was no contention for seats, in the gardens or by the pool.

Staff at the hotel were universally helpful, cheerful and friendly. There was absolutely nil service (or even appearance) from Thomas Cook at the hotel and Sotiris in Reception proved to be especially effective in helping us.

We paid extra when we booked, for a superior sea view room, something that we highly recommend for any prospective visitor. It was great to see a complimentary bottle of wine greeting us on arrival.

It was also good to see 100 euros subtracted from our final bill for the Internet use we were able to use in the room, as WiFi is free for superior rooms.

The view from the balcony of room 408 was super and a pleasure to see first thing each morning. The room had a sitting area with coffee table and was of an excellent size. The bathroom with bath and shower was clean and new-looking. The air conditioning was very efficient.

I always worry about hotel beds and pillows - they never seem to be as comfortable as I would like - however, those at this hotel were very comfortable.

Maid service was very good and the room was always returned to spotless condition after she had been.

There are several restaurants. Breakfast was always in Aquaria and was buffet. The food was good, with a wide selection. All tastes were catered for, and it was never busy. We were generally up by 06:30 each day and took breakfast before 07:30, so it may have been more crowded later.

We generally had lunch at Lagoon, the pool bar. Pizza and a beer or cocktail is plenty for us.

While the cocktails have familiar names, their ingredients don't necessarily match the name... The Mai Tai was a favourite, though no way was it a classic Mai Tai. Likewise in the Blue Bar, the Planters Punch was actually quite similar to the Mai Tai and certainly not a traditional Planters Punch. The Mai Tai was the better of the two. The Pina Colada needed some attention.

One day we took lunch at the Nautica Bistro. It was good and the location is perfect but the proportions of meals were so prodigious that we didn't go again. We hate to have to waste food. Half the food for the same amount of money would have been quite acceptable to us.

In the evening we tended to use the Celeste Restaurant, which features themed buffets. The first night we ate there, we ate indoors and it was lovely. Each night after that, the indoor part was closed and an outdoor balcony - Celeste Terrace - used. This was weird because the wind was always quite strong after noon. The music acts that play live during dinner are very good.

The buffet food was generally very good.

On a couple of nights we ate in Ristorante Bacco, the Italian restaurant, partly because it was indoors, out of the wind. Food there is good, but more pricey than elsewhere so it tends to be rather empty and lacking ambiance. It is not ideal for the hotel. It would benefit from learning how the Carluccio's restaurant chain works for both food and decor in the UK or Dubai, or wherever else those particular restaurants are. They are always full, and provide a more relaxed dining experience. That being said, the staff were most pleasant and helpful and the food in Bacco was good.

We were staying on a bed and breakfast basis, but bought five day's of Dining Around vouchers to gain, effectively, half board. It is worth doing if you don't want to eat away from the hotel.

The beach is shared and zoned between the three hotels. The sand is fine and dark. The definite boon is the location on a walkway that extends towards Limassol, and the other way as well.

Some years ago the walk towards Limassol was beautiful, with gardens all along. Now it is not very nice, as the area has been developed, or perhaps, undeveloped. However, the walk the other way is a delight, with a wooden boardwalk for a good distance and sea views. At the end, about a mile away is a marina, and just before that, a lovely beach bar, Malindi, which is a great place to take a coffee before heading back. If you go there, chat to JJ, who lights up the place with his enthusiasm and hard work.

We were at the hotel for a week, wanting relaxation, so we didn't stray far, other than on the walks we took.

Fifteen minutes heading away from Limassol along the walkway is the archaeological Amathus site. It is worth the walk and 2.50 euro entry fee. There isn't much standing that is original, and some of the small amount of reconstruction is suspect - column bases being used as wall bricks. However, there is a wealth of carved stone and marble lying around, and unlike most sites of this type, it is possible to walk almost anywhere.

Our flight home was scheduled for 10:30pm and the hotel extended our room occupancy from 12:00 noon until 6pm, charging 25 euros, which we thought fair, given the fact we gained an extra day's holiday, in effect, plus convenience.

In summary, the hotel is really good for a relaxing and stress-free break. I would certainly recommend it.

The only things that could be improved are:

Outdoor eating - Celeste Restaurant should always have the indoor section available.

WiFi: our room had free WiFi. Sadly, this was fluctuating, inconsistent and constantly dropped out. It may have been due to distance from the router, or contention for bandwidth from other guests. We found the WiFi to be only really 100% reliable in the Reception area.

Room Tip: Choose a superior room with sea view.

Just back from yet another visit to this wonderful hotel. Facilities are excellent but the crowning glory are the staff. So friendly and helpful and spoil you from start to finish.
Been a regular visitor since 1993 and we are not surprised that this jewel continues to rise in the rankings of Limassol hotels. Breakfast is superb and the smiling faces of the staff gets your day off to a positive start.
Management team are very approachable and go out of their way to make you feel at home.
Give it a try. We will definitely be back again

Room Tip: Hotel is next to the main road so go for a sea view room if you want to avoid the traffic noise

A very nice hotel with good public areas especially the pools and beach. We were on half-board and the food provided for both breakfast and dinner was excellent. There was a good choice and it changed every night. There was a complimentary drinks reception on our first night which was a nice touch. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
On the downside we had an "inland" room which faces onto a very noisy road and there is loud traffic noise almost all night. Ear plugs are an essential!
The wi-fi is free only in public areas and not in your room which in this day and age seems grasping

Room Tip: Inland rooms are the cheapest but it may well be worth upgrading to a sea-view
