“Knights of the order of Jerusalem”
Reviewed 1 September 2014

When you see the castle from the road, it looks impressive, especially when you look up and see the Knights emblem still intact on the castle front. The site itself is still having parts of the grounds excavated but once you are inside, its a little disappointing to only find a couple of original mozaics and then bare walls and floors. You can't help feel that if a display had been set up within giving some of the history of the castle, then it would make the experience much more fascinating. Having said that, the views from the rooftop are amazing, spanning from the coastline looking out onto the Mediterranean sea, across the orange and lemon groves and saltlake (where flamingoes rest in their thousands from Dec to March) up into the Troodos mountain range. Despite the lovely view, this trip will probably only take you an hour, so remember to plan where to go for lunch.

“Great Views from The Top”
Reviewed 31 August 2014

You get a false impression of the castle when you first see it from the outside but once inside quite a bit to explore and the views from the top are great with clear views in all directions over Limassol, the Salt Lake near Akrotiri and views extending towards the Troodos Mountains. Once out of the castle a bit of exploring to do outside in the gardens. Inside can get quite congested when tour buses arrive especially on the narrow spiral steps with a steady flow of visitors in both directions can prove quite interesting. Maybe the management should consider having staff to organise some sort of tidal flow of visitors on the steps at busy times.

“Good for history buffs”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

We saw this as a stop on our coach tour of the area. Well worth seeing - the guide should explain its history as well as including something about the thousands of refugees who camped in the area during the war of 1974.

“Castle of Order's knights”
Reviewed 7 August 2014

The ruins of the medieval Commandery of the Order Knights of St. John of very well preserved castle. In the lead up winding stairs. Nice views of the surrounding countryside. The wells whole time have water. It is here that started producing wine Commandaria, which is produced in Cyprus today. Among the ruins around the castle grows many interesting trees and shrubs. A place worth seeing.
