When you see the castle from the road, it looks impressive, especially when you look up and see the Knights emblem still intact on the castle front. The site itself is still having parts of the grounds excavated but once you are inside, its a little disappointing to only find a couple of original mozaics and then bare walls and floors. You can't help feel that if a display had been set up within giving some of the history of the castle, then it would make the experience much more fascinating. Having said that, the views from the rooftop are amazing, spanning from the coastline looking out onto the Mediterranean sea, across the orange and lemon groves and saltlake (where flamingoes rest in their thousands from Dec to March) up into the Troodos mountain range. Despite the lovely view, this trip will probably only take you an hour, so remember to plan where to go for lunch.
