Just got back from a week at the Pefkos Hotel and we were happy with it on the whole. Spent the first night in a second floor room overlooking the pool but were told on arrival that we would be moved to the fifth floor the next day due to changing of the fridge (!) Double bed too small and as other reviewers have pointed out, the decor can be a bit 'tired'.
We then moved to room 507 for the rest of the week. North-facing and therefore cooler during the day with a wonderful view over the city to the Troodos mountains, this room was large and very agreeable. It is on the side way from the main road and so quiet, apart from a yapping dog not far away which fortunately settled down at night. Grab it if you can. Double bed seems good and firm on first acquaintance, but actually not that great for the back - you feel every vibration and movement from your partner. Poor water evacuation from the bath/shower, but otherwise a great room.
Generally a friendly atmosphere, but sometimes conflicting information and experiences. The lady at the reception desk was incredibly upbeat and enthusiastic on our arrival, but then went through a variety of moods during the week. We took half-board and were told that we could order the meal pretty much when we wanted, but when we ordered the evening meal at seven-fifteen, we were told that the kitchen only worked from seven-thirty. As other people have said, the food is ok, but nothing more. Large quantities, very meat, chips and salad based. The breakfast is better than one might expect from a 'Greek' country, but at 8€50, as marked on the bedroom door, heavily overpriced. Other people have remarked that it's always the same, and this is true. Only hard-boiled eggs are available from the buffet. I asked nicely for a fried egg and got one every day with good grace until the last morning when the Romanian server, on duty in the morning for the first time during our stay, told me that 'they didn't do this in the morning.' So no egg, which, as we were about to leave for the airport, left us with a negative final impression. Shame.
One last thing. Other people have commented about the strange situation of the hotel, neither here nor there. I would strongly recommend renting a car because nothing is really close. The real beach is much further than a kilometer away, though you do have a very creditable swimming pool at the hotel (12.5 meters long) and in the shade from about 4pm. You'll probably get exasperated trying to find the hotel each time when you come back in the evening. There's no simple route even with a GPS. We only got back without making a mistake for the first time on our last evening !
