“Fantastic Hotel”
Reviewed 1 September 2011

Stayed here mid-Aug as part of our honeymoon. Rooms were great, clean with a lovely balcony. Room was tended to everyday so never short of clean towels. Staff were very friendly. A little out from the beach but there is a bus nearby. Breakfast was our highlight! Pool was great too. Definitely will stay here again!!

Stayed August 2011, travelled as a couple

I arrived at Ajax hotel for a business trip in the middle of August,
I got a double room, which did not have a double bed but 2 single beds put together.
It was very clear that the hotel is very old and was not renovated for years, the furniture were broken, The carpet was dusty, the bathroom was covered in black stains around the ceramic tiles, some of the tiles were broken.
In general, the room was not clean, the sheets on the bed smelled strange and were not changed during my stay (on week) only tightened.
The towels were very old, and even though i guess they were washed. they still had stains on them.
overall stay in the room was unpleasant.
As for the food, they are serving a standard breakfast, but for the most part the food wasn't fresh, especially the rolls and pastry.
My general impression from the hotel that it cannot be called a 4 star hotel, it is hardly 3 star.

Stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks with my husband and teenage son. Public areas of the hotel are 4 star standard but rooms were last upgraded in 2007 and are looking a little tired so i would rate them about 3 star standard. However the maids were very good and kept everything very clean; towels changed daily and bed linen every other day. We were on half board and breakfasts were very good while evening meals were of a good quality but more limited dishes than other hotels we have stayed in.
Location was the main draw back of this hotel; probably a 25 minute walk to the seafront, and nothing interesting in close vicinity apart from 2 restaurants and a supermarket. Pavements were in poor state of repair in the area! If staying here i would recommend car hire which we had for 7 days and could then visit other parts of the island.
One thing in my opinion that was also good about the hotel, was the fact that it wasn't full of other Brits on holiday, but very multinational!....it is also very popular at weekends with Cypriot weddings!
Overall not a bad hotel, but location was poor so would not return for another visit.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with swimming pool view, as other side looks at bins and a block of flats

Dear Sirs
On 8th July 2011 we were visiting Limassol to attend the Vanessa Mae concert, staying for one evening at the Ajax Hotel.
Upon arrival at the hotel, the majority of our time there was spent by the pool, with the room only being used to get changed for the evening for the concert.
We returned to the hotel after 1am, after the concert had finished. When getting ready to go to bed, my partner saw pen marks on his undercover sheets. I simply explained to him that the marks from a pen are not easy to clean. It was when I moved my sheets back that I saw my own sheets which had brown stains on them. I have my own house and I can distinguish permanent stains. The stains in the bed which I was given could be scratched off. The sheets were simply unwashed.
Immediately I called the reception, where I spoke with some gentleman whose first reaction was to ask why I had just noticed the stains, as we had checked in hours earlier into the room. The answer was simple – we had no need to sleep in the beds until now, and that I did not realize the first thing I should do in a 4 star hotel is to check if the sheets are clean. When my partner went to the reception to receive the replacement key, the same gentleman informed him that this has never happened in the hotel before. You may wish to enquire about the logs they keep regarding such incidents, as if this is the case, our case will be unique.
They changed our room and to make us be quiet about the subject, they upgraded us to a suite. By this time, it was after 2am, we had to dress again, pack everything once more – a total inconvenience at such an early hour of the morning. My partner should have woken up at 7:30 in the morning because he works early on Saturday.
Please fully understand that giving us the use of a suite, had absolutely no benefit to us whatsoever. Trying to cover up the issue by upgrading the room was pointless. We were just totally exhausted and needed to sleep. We could not even take advantage of the room next day as my partner needed to leave early. Breakfast was ruined by the lack of sleep we had encountered, leaving only a few minutes to dine – something which again would not have happened if it were not for the hotel’s ignorance.
There were other matters which were at fault with the hotel also, however, these were more minor matters, and if you wish, these could be included in future correspondence. Please understand though our grave concern that clients of the Ajax hotel are subjected to what should be a sterile, clean environment in which to stay, are actually given unhygienic, non-sterile, vile linen to use.
On our departure of the hotel, there was no apology, nothing. We just paid and left. Our stay in the Ajax Hotel was simply a nightmare, which cost a respectable amount of money, and one which I do not wish to happen to others.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for sharing your comments on your stay at The Ajax. I have looked into your issue and discovered that the stains were nothing more than womens' make up! It actually took us some time to clarify what kind of stain it was, because even washing under high temperatures wouldn't rub it off (that's how good make up is). Ajax Hotel is one of the first hotels to comply to the HACCP regulations on safety and hygiene in Cyprus, so you can imagine the strict controls we enforce. After discussion with the front office manager, we agreed that providing you with a suite for your night's stay was the best possible treatment we could give, instead of giving you just a normal room. Nonetheless, i would like to apologize for the inconvenience this might have caused you and can assure you that this issue has been resolved a long time ago. We are looking forward to welcoming you to our hotel on your next visit to beautiful Limassol.

The hotel is not at the beach, which for Limassol should already be a reason to sell the rooms for much less money. The room themselves are very nice and cozy but the food (we tried the dinner buffet) was horrendous and overpriced by a ton, especially considering prices of food in Cyprus. The breakfast on the other hand was excellent and included.
The swimming pool is a decent size but the water was cloudy.
Overall, very overpriced for the location and the services offered.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking time to share your experience at our hotel. Your compliments about the rooms and breakfast are much appreciated and will pass that on to the appropriate departments. However, the fact that you consider our dinner buffet overpriced has intrigued us as we consider it value for money! Our dinner buffet includes 10 different salads and starters, 10 main courses that include all kinds of meat and of course fish to suit all tastes, as well as 5 desserts and plenty of seasonal fruits. And all these for just EUR 20 per person. On the other hand, we consider that a night's stay for 2 persons which costs EUR 79 per night, is quite reasonable for a fully renovated, 4 star hotel near the beach and city centre. So dear guest, we are looking forward to your response and views as soon as possible to make any improvements to our product.

Location is far from the beach but they have a nice pool. Rooms are great. Service is not. It feels like you are bothering them with your presence. Breakfast is good. Never stayed for dinner. Overall, not bad at all but I hope they can persuade their staff to be more friendly.

Ajax staff pleasant and helpful in general. Really looked forward to dinner in the evenings. The Pool was perfect for children and non swimmers as well as stronger swimmers. Rooms are ok but a proper working shower would be a very desirable addition to the bathroom. Husband moaned a bit about the tv as could not get English speaking programmes.

Ajax situation quite near the old port and the old town, easily accessible by the number 30 bus along the seafront. Public transport cheap and regular in the town. There is a Debenhams nearby with a nice restaurant up on top floor. We would have like to have more leaflets etc. available in the hotel for local attractions (buildings of historic interest etc.) Old town a bit of a building site at present but intriguing. Perhaps not a place for those who like to holiday with fellow Brits and eat chips with everything. Was amazed at the huge number of expensive cars, BMW, Mercedes, 4 wheel drives etc. locally. The Socialists govt. not trying hard enough, property company and Bank of Russia advertising everywhere you look. Lots of immigrant workers living locally in blocks of appartments. Would have liked to ask them what they thought about conditions and the cost of living.

Room Tip: Room overlooking pool side would be nice.
