“One of THE best hotels in Limassol... by far!”
Reviewed 12 October 2011

We stayed at the Ajax Hotel in Limassol, Cyprus, for the last two weeks of September, and to be honest, we’re going to book it again for our New Year break.

We arrived quite late (near midnight) on a Saturday, laden with three large suitcases, three pieces of hand luggage, a laptop and a toddler. The hotel was very easy to find - just off the Ayios Athanasios exit of the A6 (Limassol-Paphos) motorway. There's a tavern/restaurant directly opposite the hotel, which serves the local population as well as visitors staying at the hotel, so it's quite quiet - no rowdy hot-heads in sight. Also, immediately surrounding the hotel are a kiosk, bakery/patisserie, major supermarket (Alfamega), a bank (Bank of Cyprus), as well as a few other shops to browse.

The beach is a short walk away (about 5-7 minutes) and passes the supermarket and local shops. If you’ve hired or are going to hire a car, there’s a fantastic little beach called Afrodite Beach, just behind the Four Seasons hotel. There is parking, although limited, but it’s well worth the drive, as it’s not on the usual tourist beach trail.

Anyway, back to the hotel. You might see many mixed reviews regarding internet availability in rooms. Well, there IS internet access in the rooms (in room 325 definitely had access). The way it works is like this: from your room, you choose the router that has the best signal and connect. Or, if you’re in the bar downstairs, you can connect via the hotel’s lobby router. So there’s a choice of places to connect from.

The hotel is very clean and rooms are serviced daily – including weekends. Ours was a rather large double room with a proper double bed (as opposed to two singles pushed together), plus we had an additional single bed for our little one (2½ year old girl). There was ample wardrobe space for the three of us, including shelves and drawers, as well as a bedside table with drawer and desk with drawer. The room also contained a hairdryer (although we didn’t use it, but it did work), a flat-screen LCD TV with digital channels, including Euronews and BBC World, and en-suite bathroom. In fact, apart from the bathroom which, although spotlessly clean throughout, could do with a little updating (looked as though it’d been done a few years ago). Other than that, the bathroom is good, with complimentary toiletries replenished daily by Housekeeping.

We stayed here for two weeks during mid-season (mid-September) on a bed-and-breakfast basis, and found that this suited our needs best, given that we’re frequent visitors to Cyprus. Breakfast is served between 0700 to 1000, and offers a wide selection of hot and cold foods, and of course a few Cypriot delicacies, including halloumi, lounza (smoked pork loin), et al. Room service is available, and a selection of items constituting a continental breakfast can be ordered to your room for breakfast for a small room service charge of just 2 euros.

The hotel staff are lovely and do their utmost to accommodate their guests, particularly those with small children – which is fantastic, given that there were quite a few people there on business. Ideal location, great value for money, good food and excellent service. This hotel definitely made our holiday. Thank you, Ajax!

My husband and I have just returned from a week's holiday at the Ajax Hotel, Limassol. We flew with Emirates from Malta, an excellent flight, and booked our hotel through Olympic Holidays. We got a very good deal on half board. The rep was very helpful, giving us lots of local information and not pushing excursions. We had a very good, renovated room, the bathroom was clean and well supplied. We found the breakfasts and evening dinner very good, with lots of choice and all hot meals were really hot and freshly prepared, not being kept warm for a long time.
Our daughter and her partner came with us, but early in the week he was admitted to hospital and could not fly back with us. The hotel staff were very helpful in arranging for them to keep their room until he is well enough to make the flight. They are still in Cyprus and will return to Malta later this week. The restaurant staff were friendly, courteous and very efficient.
As in all four star hotels, bar prices were expensive, so we went out in the evenings after dinner for a walk and a drink.
We had hired a car through the rep and all arrangements were good. I certainly recommend a ride through the Troodos Mountains. We also went to Paphos and visited the little villages around Limassol.

All in all, everything about the holiday was very good and we shall certainly return to the Ajax Hotel.

Room Tip: Choose a high floor - no mosquitos up there, no traffic noise and the views over Limassol and the hi...

Ajax Hotel is a standard hotel for a fair price. In Cyprus most hotels are anything but modern. This one also is located in a 70ies building, but the lobby has been modernized, while the rooms have not. The price is really fair, I think 89 Euros per night is the maximum during high season for a double room. Location isnt great, you have to take a taxi to get to the happening places of Limassol.

If you are staying at the Ajax and wish to try local cuisine outside the hotel try the following small family taverna.
From Ajax turn left to traffic lights, cross straight over towards the beach and about 200 hundred metres before the beach on the right is a very nice small Taverna. The owner is constantly in attendance and has a very friendly couple of girls(both Nepalese) working as a cook and a waitress. The quality of food in this establishment is excellent, good value and every customer is made to feel really welcome. They will all go out of their way to help you with local knowledge and nothing is too much trouble.
As regards the Ajax- very friendly staff, spotlessly clean, good location and would not hesitate to stay there again. Thank you for looking after us for the week.

The first thing, I always check in a hotel room is the bathroom. This time, when I entered, I saw that there were still some hairs in our bathtub. Later that night, my boyfriend noted some ants in our bathroom.

The hotel itself and the corridors are modern. The staff is really helpful. We had a problem with our minibar bill, but the lady at the reception was really helpful. However, the rooms are not as fresh as the rest of the hotel (carpet). The breakfast was good with a lot of choice, and fresh fruit.

Other minor point is the fact that the hotel is not situated in the center of Limassol. If you want to find a nice restaurant to dine, you have to go to the other side of the city. We did it on foot one day, but it is quite far. The bus or taxi is a good alternative.

I have stayed here before several times for conferences and seminars so I am used to the Cypriot style hotel, wiht nice public areas and very basic bedrooms. What I like about Ajax is it is quite compared to hotels y the beach where you get the boy racers in their hotted up exhaust-free Toyota Supras screaming up and down the main drag ll night long. At least at Ajax I get a good nights sleep.

There is also a sumptious breakfast included in the tarrif, more than the normal breakfast fare with dozens of choice of hot and cold. The swimming pool is also great for having breakfast while watching the sun come up. Try the traditional English ,ix f sausges that tast like sausages, baked beans, egg and bacon that tastes like it is rom the smoke house with real smoke.

There is also free wifi internet in the obby and rooms, a bit slow for Skype but good enough for basic emails and checking the news.

TV channels are basic Cypriot and Greek, with a few European ones including BBC world, and a Euro channel

Hot water is very hot in the shower, but strnage bathtub means funny position with your feet scrunched together in the U shaped tub.
Despite the basic room I highly recomend this hotel and it is good value for money

Room Tip: Any room is OK but you will pay more for a pool view

Dear Guest,

Our hotel can definitely be considered 'Value for Money', taking into account that it underwent a complete renovation in 2007. Lobby and other common areas have radically changed, as well as the decoration of all rooms, upgrading in this way the facilities provided within each room. However, please share your opinion as to what looked old in order to proceed to improvements. your comments will be much appreciated!
