Arrived there in the dark on 7 December 2013 - Not welcoming at all. The restaurant had closed for the season, the place was in darkness. Actually thought twice about going in. Was given the key by a fairly uncommunicative young lady and told to get the lift to the second floor which was in darkness as they have those annoying cut out systems in their hallways. In this age of energy saving lightbulbs, surely you could leave the lights on! Also told that the heating was part of the air conditioning system and the remote cost 7 euros a day to rent. Having paid less than £150 for the week, it seemed a bit steep to pay another third of the price for the use of a remote control. - the wrong decision as it turned out as it became the coldest week in Cyprus for 50 years - it snowed! - and the apartment was like an iceblock!! However there is a great supermarket across the road and we ended up buying a fan heater for 18 euros and used their electricity to run it and then brought it home!!!
The apartment itself was adequate, a fair size, clean and the beds were changed twice during the week and towels changed. Apart from that, the cleaning was minimal. As the week got colder, so did the hot water - solar power is fine but needs a boost in December! As the rooms were at the back, the balcony had a great view of the sea. But why do rental apartment seats and sofas have to be harder than an old school wooden bench? A bit of comfort is needed. There was a gas cooker but never found any member of staff to tell us how to use the oven and there was no microwave - really? - in this day and age? Overall the place was adequate for what we needed and for what we paid - basically a place to sleep as we were out most of the day but the staff were conspicuous by their absence and it is disconcerting to arrive back at the apartment in the dark in late afternoon and find the place locked up. You could access the lift from the small lobby (which had a stroboscopic light system!) but god help you if you were afraid of lifts as you could not access the stairs from the front area. The halls echoed like mad and any doors closing, furniture moved or talking in the corridor echoed very loudly.
I think we were the only ones in the apartments towards the end of the week and notification of the remedial work on the lighting systems in the rooms would have been appreciated. Instead we were awoken by furniture being dragged across ceramic tile floors and electric driills working.
As I have said an adequate place to sleep but not in the middle of the coldest it had been in 50 years! If you are on a tight budget, it's adequate but look for something better if you can afford it.
