“It's ok but .....”

Arrived there in the dark on 7 December 2013 - Not welcoming at all. The restaurant had closed for the season, the place was in darkness. Actually thought twice about going in. Was given the key by a fairly uncommunicative young lady and told to get the lift to the second floor which was in darkness as they have those annoying cut out systems in their hallways. In this age of energy saving lightbulbs, surely you could leave the lights on! Also told that the heating was part of the air conditioning system and the remote cost 7 euros a day to rent. Having paid less than £150 for the week, it seemed a bit steep to pay another third of the price for the use of a remote control. - the wrong decision as it turned out as it became the coldest week in Cyprus for 50 years - it snowed! - and the apartment was like an iceblock!! However there is a great supermarket across the road and we ended up buying a fan heater for 18 euros and used their electricity to run it and then brought it home!!!

The apartment itself was adequate, a fair size, clean and the beds were changed twice during the week and towels changed. Apart from that, the cleaning was minimal. As the week got colder, so did the hot water - solar power is fine but needs a boost in December! As the rooms were at the back, the balcony had a great view of the sea. But why do rental apartment seats and sofas have to be harder than an old school wooden bench? A bit of comfort is needed. There was a gas cooker but never found any member of staff to tell us how to use the oven and there was no microwave - really? - in this day and age? Overall the place was adequate for what we needed and for what we paid - basically a place to sleep as we were out most of the day but the staff were conspicuous by their absence and it is disconcerting to arrive back at the apartment in the dark in late afternoon and find the place locked up. You could access the lift from the small lobby (which had a stroboscopic light system!) but god help you if you were afraid of lifts as you could not access the stairs from the front area. The halls echoed like mad and any doors closing, furniture moved or talking in the corridor echoed very loudly.

I think we were the only ones in the apartments towards the end of the week and notification of the remedial work on the lighting systems in the rooms would have been appreciated. Instead we were awoken by furniture being dragged across ceramic tile floors and electric driills working.

As I have said an adequate place to sleep but not in the middle of the coldest it had been in 50 years! If you are on a tight budget, it's adequate but look for something better if you can afford it.

Room Tip: If you do decide to stay here, make sure you are on the upper floor and are on the sea view side - o...

We staid just 2 night in Petsas Apartments in October with only 26 EUR/night for 1 room apartment and we were very happy. The apartment (one bedroom and one living room + kitchen area) can accommodate until 4 persons, it is very spacious and well equipped. The bedroom have a nice big wardrobe clean and not smelly which i highly appreciated! The double bed is very comfortable and we slept very well. The bathroom have bathtub and is very clean. The receptionist boy was very kind and polite.

Room Tip: We staid in room 209 and was very good

Staff keep out of your way here so if that's what you want this is the place for you. Having said that there is always someone around the reception area if you need anything. The apartment we were in had a pool and sea view. It was spacious with a full cooker, kettle, toaster and fridge. Plenty of wardrobe space but only a couple of hangers each.......there is an iron and ironing board in the wardrobe and a hairdryer can be obtained from reception if you need one. Cleaning was rather hit and miss with just the bed being made on some days. Sheets were only changed once in our ten day stay and two pillow cases out of four! Floor was never swept and the sink had a bit of wipe round on some days. The towels never seemed to get changed so we chucked the lot in the bath one day and new ones appeared. Location is good with a big supermarket opposite and all the restaurants and bars within a 5-10 minute walk. You are also only about a 20 minute drive from Lara Bay on the Akamas Peninsula (we hired a 4 wheel drive from Nestos Maria Car Hire locally for a very competitive price). All in all we would stay here again as there is plenty of room and the location is ideal for the evenings as you don't need to drive anywhere to go out. It is typically 3 star Greek standard which is a little dated but you're only here for a short time and it is perfectly adequate and comfortable.

Room Tip: I emailed them before arriving to ensure we had a room with a pool view, if you are at the front you...

We arrived at Petsas at past midnight and the reception area was dark and empty but after a bit of a look around we found an A4 note attached to the main door telling us where our room was. So we took the modern lift up 2 stories to room 208.
First impressions were "Crikey its big"
Such are these rooms/appts that face the pool and the distant bay.
You walk straight into the kitchen/Lounge, its 10yds x 5yds in all, the kitchen is your immediate footfall. Its has tiled walls over a single drainer sink with a plate drainer, a reasonable work surface with a 3 door unit beneath this and a cupboard above containing cups etc and a higher shelf with a stainless steel teapot arrangement
Its L shaped (This Kitchen) but the very good sized domestic fridge is under the right of the sink, it coped well with all of our milk/wine and water.
To the left of this sink unit is a 50cms square propane gas cooker with 4 rings and oven, we didnt use this appliance but it looked that it would do a reasonable job.
Left of this is a fair sized 2 door unit with eating tools etc and above is another pad/plate cupboard with enough gear for a family of 4.
Looking into the lounge from the kitchenette you see firstly a smallish double bed (For the little folks) and a glass covered full sized dining table is to the right.with 4 full backed chairs.
Move a bit further down on the left is a 4 seater substantial sofa. with a glass topped coffee table and right of this is another single sofa chair.
On the other wall is yet another 3 seat sofa with a modern 20x16 inch new flat screen LG telly. A bit further on in the corner is a corner unit and yet another table (Small) under the Main room window, From this window (2x1 meter) you have a good view of the hotel/appt grounds/pool/carpark/fields/etc.
The Coral Bay is just about visible and we shoot some stunning photos from here of the setting sun.
The floor in this area is all stone tilled.
At the end of the lounge is the single door to the balcony, Two Plastic chairs and a 1.5 meter plastic table, safe wrought iron bars to prevent the little ones departing "Post Haste" and if you really feel like it then grab the Mop/Bucket/Broom thats also a guest here!!!
The Main bedroom is also big and just off the entrance oblique to the bathroom,
The bed is 5x6 mtrs and ok a bedside table each side of your bed with good working bedside lamps. Big full sized sliding double doors give you a view of the sea even when lying in bed if you really want that!
Now I said this place is big, well you could store the clothes for 3 families in the built-in wardrobes in this bedroom!
The bathroom is just outside of the bedroom, its 2x3 mtrs and has a smallish sink and glass shelf with a mirror above. A toilet is quite close the sink and (But acceptable) with a full sized bath with shower function (Worked well) and curtain.
Now, How does this place function.
I dont know about the other comments on here whom say the towels are changed daily but ours were not, and the room was not cleaned on a daily basis either although the bed was made up daily and the poo paper taken away daily, we found a couple more towels in the big wardrobe and used them expecting that the next day we would get some more, but no. So we placed all the used towels in the bath and put the room clean sign on the door handle.
All that happened was that the towels were re-hung and the room clean sign disappeared!
Although the next day we did get clean towels! but not the next day.
This was no big deal for us.
Maybe it was because the place was only half full and they were trying to cut back on staff/cleaning costs?? What the hell this place costs less daily than a motel single room in the UK!
The downstairs area consists of a large front restaurant with more space (Eating) on the road frontage and a very large restaurant inside with a full size servery and bar, this was all taken up on our leaving night with a function do concerning a lot of ex pats whom ate and enjoyed a live band, the food for this function seemed very nice judging by the way the band (English) members tucked in (Im a musician and if you want to judge fodder then watch the musos)
We did eat breakfast twice and it was perfectly good, and on our leaving night whilst waiting for our taxi we ate a main menu meal, mine was delicious but the wifes squid was although plentiful, burnt out and tasteless. It might be that they had a big function going down simultaneously to us ordering but we couldnt moan as overall its a good place to stay in and this is why I rate this place 4stars
Its not about the food, its not about the room cleaning, its about the fact that for less than half the price of staying in a UK pub B+B you can stay here (4 of you) in relative comfort with a good beach close-ish and an even better choice of eateries 10 mins away.
Plus we seem to have been a tad forgotten regards the above judging by the other comments on here.
So if your on a budget and want safe comfortable accommodation this is your place to stay.

.

Room Tip: As in all these reports you will be better off with a sea facing room.

This was the cheapest place to stay in the Coral Bay area and it shows. I guess you get what you pay for, but I was particularly disappointed with the pool, the electrics and the lack of public foot paths down to the 'strip'. We took our 11 month old into the pool twice and both times she came out in a rash. The TV and lights were constantly switching themselves on and off (loose connection somewhere) and the plugs around the TV area were crackling! We had to push our daughters buggy along the side of the road for part of the trip down to the strip! The food wasn't all that either.

There were a few good points - Rooms were clean and spacious. We came out of season so it was quiet, which suited us with a baby to get to sleep at night. The supermarket was directly across from the hotel and it was large and well stocked with all of your favourite brands.

If you're a couple or a group of friends just looking for somewhere to crash at night it'll probably suit your needs, but I wouldn't recommend it for families. Personally, I wish I'd spent a little more and booked the Crown Resort opposite. If you can afford that little bit extra book somewhere else.

I'm surprised to see reviewers criticising the pool - did they not realise that there is a beautiful beach just around the corner? I don't know if the criticisms are justified, but I doubt it, as everything else about this place was just brilliant. Cleaning, clean towels, bin emptied all daily, free wifi, great location with amazing supermarket just opposite, and beach and all restaurants/bars within 10 minutes on foot. Lovely hotel restaurant with nice food at good prices.

Any comments about staff being inattentive I also find very strange. The towel rail in our bathroom fell off and it was fixed the same day. We didn't even report it, the cleaner must have done. The free wifi went off but when I asked about it, it was also fixed immediately and with a smile. We asked to keep our room longer on the last day and that was also no problem. A cleaner saw me peeking into the cleaners' room at a shelf of paperbacks and told me to help myself. What more could you ask?

On the (slight) downside, the hotel is located on a road which isn't exactly busy, but vehicles were going quite fast and it could be noisy. We take our trusty earplugs with us wherever we go, but others may be uncomfortable with this.

For a budget holiday (£1100 including flights and transfer for 2 people/weeks self-catering from Book Cyprus), we found this place to be excellent value for money and will deifinitely return. Many thanks to Petsas for a great holiday.
