Well mixed feelings. The only hotel on our trip that did not offer us a complementary upgrade as honeymooners. So we ended up living in the smallest room our our trip while at the Annabelle.

Pros - Good view, beautiful landscaping around the pool, location and eateries around the hotel, well maintained, friendly staff, ample parking

Cons - Small room, no complementary upgrade or champagne (we got this at all the other hotels we stayed in ! )

I agree with the other contributors, 5 star prices for a 3 star hotel with a building site next door to it.

After 11 days we are glad to get back home, before another problem raised it head.

I think the reception staff have been on an intensive training course to learn how to say 'No' and have a real clever trick of making their hand pick up a phone when a customer approaches the desk.

I read bad reports before we went, but thought, that didn't sound like the hotel we stayed in before, but they where right.

If your thinking of booking Don't - there are better hotels on the island and don't think the offer to upgrade half board will help you, unless you like the school canteen experience!!

All in all a holiday to forget.

Lovely hotel, surroundings and some good staff, but....

Pool dirty and needs tiles replacing
Food very poor, certainly not 5 star standard, breakfast not too bad but do not go half board eat out instead.
Room adequate but again not of expected standard, leaking showers, air con and fridge noisy and walls paper thin. You do not get a good nights sleep.
Tv do not bother watching it, limited channels in English.
No atmosphere, deserted most evenings.
Very disapointed, tour operators that sell this holiday 'Al A Carte' need to re-assess this.

The moment you enter the Annabelle you are welcomed with warm friendly greeting with a refreshing cocktail and cold towel, exactly what you need after your journey.
The rooms are perfectly acceptable, it is hard to criticise this hotel but the rooms are dated and in need of refurbishment. We had a room tucked away but that suited us as we took our 22 month old daughter so were not disturbed. (although our booking did state it would be garden view room) The pool area caters for everybody, a big swimming pool and a scenic waterfall section and if that's not enough you can always use the facilities next door (which is more suitable for young children)
Breakfast is your standard 5 star hotel options which means you get just about everything! The evening meals which are also buffet style is perfectly acceptable but the fine dining section is far better. We had half board status but opted to eat out more but that's just us.
All the staff are very friendly and professional, I felt nothing was a problem and they could not do enough to cater your needs. Our daughter was made to feel like a star!
As I have said before it is hard to criticise this hotel, but if you look for problems you will find them as others have reviewed before me.
What makes this hotel are the staff that is what makes this place 5*.

The Annabelle advertises itself as 5 star hotel. That is probably stretching the reality a little. The welcome on arrival was fine with a cool drink that was nice in the 35 degree heat. The staff are friendly and generally willing to help.

Our room though was a little disappointing, I know we had only booked the standard rate, "garden view" meant a small veranda backing onto a building site and what seemed to be a neighbouring restaurant. The workers started on the building site at 7:15 in the morning. To upgrade the room would have incurred a charge of 70 euros a day. I don't believe free upgrades should be automatic as it is not fair on those that have paid the extra, but just be ware you may be backing onto a building site if you go for the cheaper rooms. The room was also quite spartan with no dressing table, though there is a bath/shower and the bed was comfortable enough. Do not put anything in the fridge that is not mini bar stock as they will charge you 15 euro's a day for the privilege . Given the extortionate prices of drinks etc in the hotel we felt this was a bit unfair. The room though was promptly cleaned and replenished twice a day.

The best part of the Annabelle is the swimming pools. One standard rectangular pool in the heat of the sun, plus a lovely grotto and waterfall affair with a small swim up bar. Lovely in the late afternoon after the heat of the day. The pools though are starting to get very busy. If you go into the large pool late afternoon the water is lovely and warm.

The food was ok. Breakfast options were continental and the ingredients for a full English. The cold meats on the continental station were all cheap processed meats, not quite what you'd expect from a 5 star hotel. The included buffet meal in the evening was again ok. Quality seemed to vary each night. We cHose to eat out a couple of the nights as the evening buffet had been included as a free upgrade on booking. There are other resterants in the hotel which you will need to pay for, we didn't see any menu's / prices for them so decided to use external resteraunts assuming that the hotel ones would be an extortionate price like their drinks. The buffet evening meal can be quite chaotic getting a table, we had to wait a while on a couple of occasions to get a table then ended up near the entrance surrounded by people being fussy over their table requirement !! The buffet is themed each night, French, English, Cypriot etc etc.

Some useful info.

Tours can be booked cheaper in places just outside the hotel, we used mickeys tours over the road for jeep safaris and they were fine. Cars can be booked cheaper in a Number of locations but availability may be an issue.

USE THE BUSES! Much cheaper than taxis and they are clean, modern and regular. One euro will get you anywhere in the paphos area.

For a good quality evening meal in a nice quiet atmosphere at fair prices we used Zaza's and the Almond tree. Both were very good a short walk from the Annabelle.

In downtown paphos there is a lovely bar/restaurant called 'muse' which is a pretty cool atmosphere, great food and wonderful location overlooking the coastal areas of paphos.

Annabelle prices : a bottle of local still water - EU 2.70 (50 cents at shops outside and 17 cents at the supermarket for the same brand !!!!).
Beer Eu5.00 (around 1.95 to 3 outside at the bars/cafes)
Bottle of water with your dinner Eu4.50

In all the score is probably 3.5 to be fair

My partner and i stayed at the Annabelle for 7 nights at the end of June 2012. Having visited Paphos a few years ago we decided to return and spend extra staying at what we thought would be a 5* hotel but we were bitterly disappointed. When we arrived we where given cold flannels and a refreshing drink which i could not fault and then we where shown to our room. The room itself was clean but very dated and not at all what you would expect from a 5 star hotel. The view from the room was of a white wall with a side view of the sea however we were informed they had free rooms in the hotel with a full sea view should we wish to pay the extra and upgrade which i believe was approx 70 euros a night (In my opinion they should upgrade customers for free if the rooms are available)
On the upside the hotel grounds and pool were lovely and most of the staff where very friendly and accommodating however we did feel that some guests where given preferential treatment over others and it was very much 'if your face fits' type of hotel.
The food in the hotel was average and cold, again not what i would have expected of a 5 star hotel and drinks where expensive. Their was very little atmosphere around the hotel both in the day and evenings and believe this is due to the extortionate prices. We decided to take a bottle of water to the pool rather than buying from the hotel and we were 'told off' by a member of staff and informed we could not consume anything purchased from outside of the hotel.
We kept a mental notes of how much we had spent on tab as we had a feeling that we were going to be overcharged and low and behold when checking out we were over changed by 25 euro for drinks out of the mini bar that we had not consumed. When we questioned this we were confronted by a very rude member of staff (lady who checks the mini bar) in the hotel lobby and infront of other guests which was very humiliating and we were accused of drinking the contents of mini bar and re filling them with water - needless to say after speaking to the manager he agreed to not charge us for the drinks however this left a very bitter taste after what had been a relaxing holiday. In the 7 days that we spent at the hotel we had a problem with the TV and no connection the channels, no running water in the room, a power cut and on several occasions one of the lifts was out of order. I do not like writing negative reviews however in this instance i believe it necessary so that improvements can be made and also hopefully give potential customers an insight as to what the Annabelle is really like. We will be returning to Paphos in the future just sadly not to the Annabelle.

Just returned from the hotel Annabelle this morning 8.7.12, On wed I went to reception, as our flight was late I asked for an extension on our room on the day of departure for approx. 6 hours, 125 euros was the answer, I thought this was very expensive and asked if there was a courtesy room available, yes I was told but you must come back sat (the day of our departure) and we will give you a slot for one hour to get showered and changed, there were NO courtesy rooms available for anybody that day (sat) and the alternative we were given was to shower and change in there sister hotel several hundred meters away, not acceptable as it was 35C outside, we vacated our room at 12 and had a wait of 9hrs for our taxi, there were people getting changed in the lobby and in the bar, my partner washed her hair in the sink and sat on the floor in the lobby with her hair straighteners and hair drier whilst there was a wedding party getting their pictures taken around our luggage,
Private beach, check out Google earth there isn’t one
Food generally ok but cold, vegetarian options very limited, 4 restaurants to choose from in the broucure, extra costs apply, sunbeds were very old and discoloured the majority needed the back rest fixing, umbrellas broken,
If you wanted to book a room in this hotel that is shown in the pictures you would properly have to double you budget, we had a standard room which faced a wall with a pedestrian ally running past our ground floor bedroom window, very dated room but clean and tidy.
8 Euros for a pint of beer, no free water with your meal, 7.70 euros for a glass of whine, out side the hotel less than 30 sec walk away the prices were less than half the hotel price.
Very little atmosphere in the evening as everybody disaperead to there rooms after meals as they did not want to pay the rip of prices at the bar

Room Tip: Any thing other than a stndard room is going to cost ££££££££££
