“A Little Disappointed.”
Reviewed 15 April 2009

The welcome to the hotel was excellent, and we were shown around, which we have never had at any other hotel we have stayed in before, however when we got to the room I felt that it did indeed need updating, the bathroom mostly. The pillows were like rock, but the fold down service on a night was a nice touch. We thought we had paid nearly £600.00 extra for an up-graded room, but found out that was only for a sea-view!! Also the buffett restaurant was closed for 3 of the 7 days we were there, so had to either eat out or pay extra for the la a carte restaurant which was about £70.00 extra a night. When we had already paid £2,700.00 for 7 days I thought that was a cheek!!

Stayed at the hotel 8 years ago and we have just returned from a week. It is no longer a 5* hotel. The bedrooms are very tired and in need of an up date. The tv barely functioned and I was told it was due to atmospherics despite the fact that neighbouring bars had perfect pictures. There was no mention of email services in the brochure and the computer was in a locked room.

Disappointed with: rooms/bathrooms in need of refurbishment, and some seemed to have noise intrusion issues. Hotel gym was a disgrace - i hope it is either now closed or refurbished fully - dirty, broken equipment and dangerous. Spa was distinctly average.
Impressed with: Location, overall ambience, service and environment outside. Food was probably the highlight - very high standard and great variety - it made our stay.

We spent a very nice week here in February, the hotel was good, food very good and service great. Unfortunately I feel the hotel is slightly living in the past, with a colonial feel to the loby and a 5 star rating that was no doubt the case in it's day, but the Annabelle has been easily superceeded with new 5 star establishments such as the Elysium. In our week there, the only entertainment was a very acomplshed pianist playing on two occasions during dinner in the resautrant which was the only one open, the wine list was very expensive with cheapest local wine at 22Euros.
Paphos in general was very quite and I do not recomend a holiday there untill later in the year as many shops, bars and restaurants were closed.

We stayed here for 2 weeks in July 2008 with our 2 children and extended family joined us for 1 week.
We were expecting the children to be able to use the children's facilities of the hotel next door (The Almyra) however it was basically for smaller children not suitable for a 10 and 7 year old.
The first room we were in was in the West Wing and was located next to the sea front building site. We complained and were given a much better room on the east side which was lovely. The pool area is great but for a 5 star hotel we were expecting more. For example the gym is not air conditioned and the spa area felt like it needed updating. The tennis court is at the front of hotel is there is no shade at all, so could not be used by the kids during the day as it was too hot.
Having said that the staff are lovely and the a la carte restaurant served us great food.

Having been recommended this hotel we were disappointed with certain aspects..Lovely welcome with orange juice and cold towels. We were then shown to our supposedly upgraded room with a side view of the next door hotel. Our hearts sank as this was barely 3 star quality with a hole in headboard, cracked wall, very shoddy chipped furniture and filthy chairs and lamp shades. Goodness knows what a standard room is like !!.After complaining to hotel staff and rep we were eventually up graded at no extra cost to room in new part of hotel. We had written down a list of concerns but no one wsa interested. New room much much better but still only 4 star quality. Terrible hard pillows and nasty hard plastic mattress protector. Yuk !.Only B and B. We ate in the formal restuarant one evening which was superb (sorry can't remember its name).Breakfast ok but poor choice of fresh fruit. Ate out at great eateries in Paphos most night s which are short walk away. Indian opposite hotel is fab. Pool and beach area lovely. We were celebrating our silver wedding but were considerably younger than rest of clientelle. Very quiet hotel almost colonial in style. If you want a truly 5 star experience go to the Four Seasons in Limassol. Fabulous, although Paphos much nicer resort.

  • Liked — Eventually being upgraded FOC to a reasonable standard of room
  • Disliked — Very poor standard and tired furniture in first room

i was so worried about the negative reviews for this hotel but i needn't have cos it was lovely.

on arrival we were welcomed with a glass of orange juice and a cold towel then shown around the hotel briefly before being shown to our room which was very nice we upgraded to a pool & sea view room but the standard rooms were quite sufficient.

the staff were very helpful and friendly especially the waiters at the pool area they would come round every day at 12 noon with cold towels and water spray bottles which at 45deg heat is very welcoming.

as many free towels as you liked for your sunbeds and no queueing for the them like most hotels, the beachfront was very nice and the watersports were reasonable the only downside to the hotel is that the drinks are quite expensive, £3 for a sprite and £15 for a hamburger, we were only bed&breakfast but still worked out expensive at the end of the holiday as we charged all drinks to the room, but overall the holiday was great, if you decide to go you must check out a restaurant called ' napoleon' which is owned by 'diana & mike' not far from the 'amathus hotel'.

  • Liked — very scenic and very clean
  • Disliked — very pricey
