“Lovely hotel, fabulous staff, amazing food.”
Reviewed 24 August 2010

We have just returned from a 2 week holiday at this wonderful hotel. We stayed here 4 years ago and have just saved up enough to go back!!!! It is not cheap, but it is excellent. Our seaview room (upgraded as returning customers) was very clean with a huge bed and bathroom. Yes it had an old style TV (but I didn't go on holiday to spend my time in the room watching it.) Yes the shower door leaked a bit (but I didn't have to clean the floor). The very lovely and efficient staff did keep the room spotless, the turn down service every night was great and the occasional treat of home-made cookies delivered to the room was a lovely touch. Yes the mini bar prices are extortionate - so we didn't use it. No, there aren't tea and coffee facilities in the room - it is 5 star, they want you to use room service!!!! However, we asked for a kettle and got one at no extra cost - we then bought our own coffee/tea - simples! The public areas are all spotless. The staff are just brilliant. We did not ever come across a miserable face, cleaners, bar staff, restaurant staff, front desk, doormen, chefs- everyone is great and could not do enough for you. In particular Agathi and Laura on the front desk and Ciprian and Adrian in the restaurant (Fontana) made us feel really looked after. The Head Chef, Mr. David Andrew Bayes(and all of his team) is fantastic, the food was stunning-every single day- and the chocolate mousse is out of this world!!!! I could go on(even more). The only negative is that the grotto pool does need to be cleaned more regularly, as it did get quite murky by the end of 2 weeks (the main pool was fine). We are already saving for our next visit and can't wait to go back.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for staying with us at Annabelle. We appreciate your positive review and your compliments have been passed on to all our staff.

Grotto is a very particular pool and although it was not very clear towards the end of your stay, we quickly brought the clarity back. It is a maintenance procedure that we often take, since this pool has many plants and flowers around.

Thank you for your stay and your kind words. We hope to welcome you back in the not so distant future.

If your planning a stay in this hotel I would seriously advise you think again. After years of travelling the world and staying in all manner of hotels we can honestly say that this one has turned out to be the worst, due in the main, to the problem and moreover subsequent handling of significant problems. On the morning of the first day at the hotel we informed the guest relations that the swimming pool(s) were filthy with a visible scum line around the pools, the water was so cloudy its almost milky and it had a thick film on the surface not to mention the debris floating in it including, amongst others, an old lighter. The so called “Garden of Eden” resembles the “Garden of Weeden” which is full of weeds and clearly un-kept. The beach area is nothing more than a muddy patch of ground and full of stones and rubble. The internet website for the Annabelle refers to 6 acres of lush gardens, 5 bars, a covered childrens pool and a kids club for children aged 6 months to 16 years. It is a matter of fact that NONE of these facilities exist at the Annabelle.
The hotel management, in response to our complaints, offered to move us to their sister hotel next door and then to another one of its hotels at a significant additional cost. When we declined the offers and said we wished to check out the Manager very abruptly stated, quote, “he’d had enough of this issue and we could have a 20% discount on our stay or we could leave”. The offer to leave was however with the caveat that, as per the hotels cancellation policy, we would be charged the full outstanding portion of our stay. We were effectively forced into staying.
The response from the manager for the mis-description on the website was “zero”, he actually could not explain it or did not want to explain it. The explanation for the state of the alleged beach area is that the land belongs to the municipality and therefore nothing to do with them. The explanation for the misrepresentation of the pictures of the garden of Eden and other areas was, quote “they were taken earlier at a different time of year” and above all, the most worrying part is, they don’t see a problem with the quite frankly “disgusting” state of the pools.
It is no wonder most of the people we have met here have said they wont be returning borne out by the fact that the place looks half empty. Mind you, with management like they have, in my opinion, its no wonder.

We repeatedly reply to comments on Trip Advisor, however in this case we would like to leave it on the discretion of the readers to judge the validity of this review. We believe that you can tell from previous and later reviews what Annabelle really is about.

We would just like to add that this specific guest was asked to leave the property before the end of his stay, after having informed the police, because of the guest’s dishonesty and unjustified complaints as well as rude and inappropriate behaviour towards our staff. We therefore understand why this review is so bitter.

For everyone else, we remain at your disposal to answer any questions.

Respectfully yours,

Annabelle Management

Arrived in Hotel and was greated with a couple of fresh drinks, non alcoholic and wet flanels, nice touch. The Hotel itself was very clean and very quiet, our sea view rooms was comfortable, but certainly NOT 5 star, more 3 stars. There was no tea and coffee making facilities and the tv was the old crt type and no obligatory writing paper and pen.Our bathroom could have done with a good clean out, dirty grouting, water leaking on to the floor when having a shower and into the bedroom. We didn`t complain as we felt it was too much hassle and were only sleeping in the room.
The real PLUS side to this Hotel has to be in the Buffet Restaurant(Fontana),I have a tolerence to Gluten and the Chef,DAVID just could not do enough for me (and my wife) not only did he prepare individual meals of our choice, (for us) he went out of his way to ensure that I was taking the correct salads from the buffet itself. He even offered us alternative menus for the week or of our choosing.10 STARS for him alone. The rest of the staff in the Hotel were very pleasant and they couldn`t do enough for you.
The pool area was clean and the pool itself well maintained, the gardens were gorgeous and well kept.
Overall,my wife and I enjoyed the Annabelle and the Hotels location was good too,so would I recommend this Hotel to others, the answer to that is yes, even if its for David and his team.

We stayed at the Annabelle Hotel for 10 days from 26th June, and we got married there on 2nd July. The hotel is absolutely fantastic and we had an amazing wedding day.

The location of the wedding, on the wooden deck, and the hotel gardens are stunning, our pictures look wonderful, and its hard to imagine a nicer location. Sally, the hotel's wedding co-ordinator is brilliant - very helpful, friendly, organised and efficient.

The service from the staff at the hotel is wonderful, nothing is too much trouble, they spoil you from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave.

The hotel itself is lovely, and we plan on returning as soon as we can. The gardens are beautiful, and the pool area is lovely and clean and quiet.

We ate each day in the Fontana restaurant, the food is beautiful and the setting of the restaurant is lovely.

Our room was lovely, with an excellent view of the harbour and sea from our balcony.

We would recommend this hotel to anyone who wanted a top class hotel for a holiday in Paphos, and especially for anyone who wanted to get married in Paphos. It is quite expensive, but you do get what you pay for. The only slight downside is the cost of the drinks at the bar/pool bar/restaurant, however, as this is a 5 star hotel, you do expect them to be expensive!

Just spent a week at the Annabelle. Absolutely brilliant, everything you would expect from a traditional 5 star Cypriot hotel.
The staff, without exception, were warm and friendly and the service first class.
We ate mainly in the Fontana buffet restaurant on the terrace. Each night had a different theme, superb food with wide ranging choice.
Loads of room on the sunbeds and in the pool with no kids creating mayhem!
Our room had recently been redecorated and had great views towards the harbour. While not overlarge it was adequate, afterall who wants to spend their holiday in their room.
The drinks in the bar were not cheap but thats the price you pay for 5 star service. Would recommend the house wine for dinner at 20 euros, a good solid local red.
Only disappointment was the lack of entertainment in the Byzantine bar. There was a large TV showing football in Greek with no one watching! Bring back the live entertainment and encourage more guests into the bar.
Going back again later int the year for our thirteenth visit.

Stayed at Annabelle for our Honeymoon. I have read some amazing reviews about The Annabelle, however I am now assuming they were written by some of the many old folk that gather there! No offence to the old folk but we wanted a little bit more atmosphere instead of an unwritten rule of "lights out" by 10pm!
Bit of background about us.....I am 27 and my hubby is 31. We hate anything garish, tacky, too loud etc! What we do like is music (and not the headbanging kind you find over at Bar Street!) The Annabelle failed to entertain on any level...oh, apart from the classical pianist of an evening until 9pm! What the hotel is lacking is a bit of ambience! A bit of Barry White, Luther in the background wouldn't have gone a miss!
Dont get me wrong, the hotel was lovely. No complaints there but I would say it was also overpriced. We paid £1100 each for BandB 10 nights. For the same price, we couldve got a similar class hotel anywhere in the world! The staff are lovely, the maidss clean the room each day and turn it down each night wich was a nice touch. We have no complaints over the cleanliness, staff or service, location. (however do watch out for a particularly narky member of staff called Cyprian!) Our gripe is value for money and lack of atmosphere. In this hotel a bottle of wine (Persefoni) is 26 euro!! WOW!!! We bought same botlle in Paphos with our meal for 15 euro and same bottle in the supermarket for 5 euro!! The Annabelle really do like to rip you off!!! To rub the fact they rip you off too they also have the owners son pulling up in his brand new Lamborghini daily!!!! Yep - the amount we spent there in 10 days, Im sure we now own his front wheel at least!!!!! Also, they charge 17 euro to place items in your own room fridge!!! If this isnt bad enough, they charge you to replace the item you just bought from the mini bar back into the fridge!!!! Ouch!!!!!
Paphos itself is a little strange! It lovely down by the harbour. Food was always lovely but then again no music in any of the eateries (not even a bit of background music!) So we found ourselves having to retreat to the even quieter hotel at 10pm! One night we did go into Bar Street where there is music but this is like being in Falaraki on a club 18-30!!! The problem with Paphos is that there is no inbetween!
If yu are anything like us and would still like to visit Paphos, I would recceomend The Elysium! If you have already booked the annabelle then I would suggest The partner hotel next door, The Almyra Spa as this is where we spent our days as the annabelle was full of kids! We read on here that it was the other way around. Plus the almyra seemed to have more younger couples. Almyra also has a great gym and pool area.

Thank you for your comments, following your stay with us at Annabelle. It is important for us to receive feedback, even if it is indirectly.

Annabelle is a traditional property and it fits more with the needs of our clientele to provide low-key entertainment. You are correct in saying that we limit entertainment to early evening only, but this is done, as over the years we have more requests for a tranquil and peaceful environment. As you were probably informed, we only have a pianist on certain evenings, a duo on other evenings and a traditional Cypriot night with music and dancers once a week. Being within the lively town of Pafos, it allows guests who prefer “louder” entertainment to find more options around. However, we are respecting the preferences of most of our guests by keeping it discreet within.

Five star hotels, all over the world, have higher prices in food and beverage items, as they are proud of the atmosphere, attentiveness in service and environment that they provide. This is why Annabelle has regular guests who return year after year. One of our regular guests also owns the luxury car you noticed in the parking lot, just like other guests who also rent luxury cars during their stay. It is important to stress that our owner’s son is only ten years old, not even able to apply for a driving licence, just to avoid any misunderstandings.

Another point we would like to clarify is regarding the use of the mini-bar. What you will find in your room, is not a fridge and is not meant to be used as one. Many of the items provided within (wine, chocolate, etc) can be affected by the high temperatures that Cyprus enjoys, and we apply a charge for guests who empty their mini-bars in order to discourage them from doing that. Annabelle (as most 5-star hotels) does provide a mini-bar but not fridges.

Thank you once again for all your comments. We would have loved to clarify all the misconceptions during your stay, as we could have helped you to enjoy your week even more in that way. However, we are still grateful that you chose to stay with us in Annabelle this year and hope that you may return in the future.
