Reviewed 23 August 2014

Hi All
here is a factual review of the hotel and surroundings
- lower end 4 star hotel , equivalent to euro 3 star level
- built in 1978 so not new and in some parts it feels its age
- some parts have been refitted and are about 10 years old
- daily cleaning is meticulous
- food is 1/2 board only , lunch can be taken at the pool restaurant/ bar at low costf from 6 to 10 eur
- food is rather ok, simple and moderate selection but well made , mix of local and uk dishes
- guests are by nrs : 1 local cypriot families with young kids, 2 russian upper working class families or single women, 3 uk pensioners 4 uk couples with kids
- room staff, pool bar and restaurant staff are fine , staff at the front desk are neutral in attitude, sensitive english people would say: uncaring
-rooms are moderate sized and have individual airco, some airco systems are rattly, ear plugs are a bonus
- beds are box springed type and are very firm, pillows are thin, which i personally like
- the hall decor is aged and reminds one of the grand burstin folkestone , but you dont live in the hallways
- bathrooms are clean and functional, hot water works and is :hot!!
- there is a fitness room with good equipment, never used by anyone during my stay
- indoor pool is small but ok, cooler than outdoor ones
- outdoor pools are very warm due to blazing sunlight , water is clean
- outdoor back garden decor and walkways in stone and astroturf are older and need to be re- done
-outdoor furniture, loungers , tables are aged and need to be replaced but stil works
- you pay extra for: fridge use, safe , wifi etc etc
- entrance hall free wifi is inoperative
- nearby on the way to the town ( on the right ) are several lo cost eateries with free wi fi : eg: all day breakfast for eur 4, a gift!
-eu financed coastal path is very good but installed lighting is u/s in parts and tricky when dark
- beach in front of hotel is public, chairs are eur 2.5 / day, coarse sand, rocks at either end, protected from sea surf by a breakwater
- there is a snack bar on the beach called" deck" ( sub branch of beautiful big" deck bar "on top of the mini cliff)
- locals use the beach from 6 to 8 before going to work when its cooler, thats the smart thing to do, or after 5 pm
- sea water is very clean and quite warm from late june to late sept
- town is cute and not overdeveloped, there is just tourist things to buy , no quality shops
port is not overstuffed with mega yachts and fat cat millionaires with skinny gf in tow like most french ports
- in mid summer the temp is up to 37 deg and blazing sun, can be humid, be forewarned!
- in the main paphos town( upper ) is a very good restaurant called" muse" on the top of a hill with extraordinary view and great food at reasonable cost, clients are only cypriots due to distance from the beach town, which is a kind of bonus
- other hotels along the same road are more modern and quite astounding but cost double to triple
at aloe you get what you pay for, if you are rich stay at the alexander the great
greetings and enjoy your stay

The island can get very hot in the high summer around 45C, so we went the 8th to 18th June flying Jet2.com from Leeds / Bradford and even then the temp got to 35C. Our hotel was the Aloe a short bus ride or 15 min walk to the harbour of Kato Pafos and though very large we found it a super hotel with excellent out door pools and also an indoor pool and fitness room. We had half board and went to local restaurants for our evening meals but the breakfasts were very good with a good selection of hot and cold food. From our hotel one could cross the road to the beach in 5 mins, to a very safe sandy beach with bar and restaurant. There was a very good footpath along the bay which takes you to the harbour and there are lots of excellent restaurants by the sea as well as a masses of restaurants around Kato Pafos. We hired a car for four days and visited Limassol, Akratiri, the archaeological site of Kourion, The Troodos mountains and Coral bay. The Greeks drive on the left so using a car is easy as long as you take care of other drivers who don't care about speeding and suddenly turning without signalling. The island is full of archaeological sites and if walking on an excavation which has unearthed ancient civilisations going back to BC is for you then Cyprus is also for you.

Room Tip: Opt for a room overlooking the pool area as they are sunnier and the view is very good. Also go for...

I should have taken notice of other reviews before booking this hotel. Decided to stay for a couple of nights with the family whilst in Cyprus. It was reasonably priced and they offered me adjoining rooms, which I was struggling to get at other hotels. Hotel in desperate need of renovation. Rooms were not very inviting and sliding patio doors did not lock in either rooms. Pool area was dirty, cigarettes and empty drink cups around the pool area. Breakfast was awful, the only decent thing was a fried egg on the first morning. Juices watered down. Milk UHT, the cheapest quality food you can get. It gave us a bed for the night, but we decided not to stay around the hotel but to go out and about around Paphos. Next time I will pay a bit more for a better hotel. So many lovely hotels within the surrounding area.

After reading some poor reviews about the Aloe Hotel, myself and my partner were somewhat hesitant about staying here. However, we'd booked the hotel with other couples to attend a friend's wedding and couldn't back out! I made sure that I packed my own towels, cleaning wipes and slippers after reading that the hotel was below standard in terms of cleanliness.........

On our arrival at the hotel things couldn't have been more different! It has a lovely exterior and welcoming reception. Plenty of lifts to take you to your floor. Our room was immaculately clean, with an abundance of fresh towels and bathroom toiletries. Fresh sheets on the bed and extra pillows if required. A hair dryer was supplied as well as beach towels. No need for my own towels, wipes or slippers!

Breakfast was most enjoyable with a different selection of food everyday; ranging from cereal, toast, full English, pancakes, croissants and fruit. As we had only booked for bed and breakfast I can't comment on other meals.

Plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas by the two large pools, a clean pool bar and small children's pool. Indoor pool, gym, shop and bar were all beautifully presented.

On the whole? Very happy! Would we return? Yes!

In summary:
Attractive hotel
Very clean with daily maid service
Good selection of food for breakfast
Not over crowded by the pool even during peak season
Waitresses, maids and maintenance staff really polite and helpful
Excellent location.....a three minute walk from the beach and a ten minute walk from the harbour

Reception staff aren't very helpful.....almost to the point of being rude
Lots of cats around at breakfast begging for food.....with this came the smell of cat urine
If you require the use of the fridge it's €3 per day
No free wifi..............€30 per week if required. TOP TIP......GO TO LOCAL BARS WHO WILL GLADLY PROVIDE YOU WITH FREE WIFI!
We found the beds too hard, but this is personal preference.

I took my wife away for the night while on holiday at my dads, kids minded. What a beautiful hotel. Great staff. Great food and entertainment. Wr have never had so much fun during dinner before. Even the price was very reasonable. We will go back and have already sent family and friends there

I stayed at the aloe hotel with a friend back in 2013, its sad to read of the poor reviews its getting 3 years later. We had a lovely time here, everything was so nice, and the hotel was so peaceful, no rowdiness and no loud music thumping out, what a shame to read that it has deteriorated ( as is suggestive reading the reviews), the management really do need to upgrade it, because even we agreed it dosent deserve its 4* rating. I really hope someone from the aloe reads this and something is done to upgrade this lovely hotel, after all its got everything going for it, it would be sad to see such a lovely hotel close down due to poor custom. Please note i have had to tick the wrong date i stayed here the options didnt go back as far as 2011.

Don't be fooled by the lovely looking reception and lounge area.Wait until you exit the lifts and see the dirty worn out carpets on the hallway. The only staff that seem to want to talk to you are the girls that clean the rooms.I have never come across such a bunch of miserable staff in a hotel restaurant at breakfast times. All I can add is thank god we were only there on a B and B basis. To finish on a positive note the pool was good.
