“Fabulous Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 July 2014

We have just returned after 11 days at the Elysium. This was our 4th visit over a 10 year period and the hotel has not deteriorated in this period. As per many of guests the staff and management are superb. The food in the restaurants is excellent and whilst I would rather be served the buffets are excellent and you would have to very hard to please if there was something that didnt take your fancy.
This year the evening meal was served outside so utilising the areas around the pool and with the temperature in the evening in the high 20's it was so nice.

It would be nice to mention all the staff who have provided such excellent service but the list would be endless, but special mention must be given to Vlassis and Norbert in the Pool Bar,
Marina, Nikai and all the fabulous waiters and waitresses in the restaurants.

If you are going to Paphos look no further than this hotel you will not be disappointed.

Staid for 10 days first half of June.
Because of the budget, we must admit the hotel isn’t cheap (but worth it!), we booked a side sea view room. Upon arrival we were informed to have been upgraded to a “full sea view”. In all honesty it must be said that this was actually “side sea view” in the geographical sense of the word, but a lovely (!) view of the pool area, dining area, gardens and indeed the sea. When we did a tour of the hotel and compared to other room settings, we felt blessed with the upgrade. If we ever return (which we would without any doubt if ever returning to Cyprus), we will be hoping to be granted this again :-)
Rooms are well appointed and come with the amenities expected from a 5 star hotel. If there comes a time when some renovations will be due, I estimate the room furniture will be first to be changed, more because of their somewhat “outdated” look than anything else.

All other parts of the hotel look fabulous. Grant hall; housing reception, guest relations, bar and comfortable seating area. Nice restaurants for both breakfast and dinner (both out- and indoors). We have not used the other available restaurants (Italian and Asian) but they looked nice as well. Beautiful and well maintained grounds with landscape pool, flower and plant borders, grass/palm tree/sunbed area, tiny little but cosy beach, with access to the sea.

Personnel is super! Reception people, porters, guest relations’ people, waiters and waitresses, garden/pool/sunbed staff, as good as all are genuinely friendly, nothing is ever too much for them. If you are prepared to take a personal interest in them as people and in their country and its history (as we are), they appreciate, will try to give you tips on what and how to explore best etc etc. A word to the entire staff, if we may. We appreciated all so much, that we would feel to do injustice to those we would not mention, if we would start listing a few names here (and then only of those we could clearly read from the name cards); therefore we will not. However, we frankly were disgusted and appalled by the behaviour of some tourists, which all seem to come from a certain region. People in general deserve a basic level of respect and if people go out of their way, day-in-day-out, to please us tourists/guests of the (high standard) hotel, one should acknowledge even more. Throwing plates on tables and expecting people to literally run for (from, might be a better choice :-) you, is not in our book of standards. Staff, you do not need to take this every time and we hope it is/will not affect your motivation and work pleasure too much, as you deserve better and are the core business of the hotel!

Food is of very high standard! Breakfast buffet is so huge you could take something different every day. It is true that every day has more or less the same selection, but as said, the choice is so huge, that if you’d wish you could eat even a different style of egg every day for a week. Juices are fresh, so is the rest (hard boiled egg’s resistance to be pealed is solid proof :-).
Dinner buffet has a different theme each day of the week. Our preference goes to the local one (and the Asian), but we acknowledge not every tourist is prepared to give up on their own known food. One small purist comment :-) : on the Cypriot night, the tzadziki was delicious, but on some nights a semi-tzadziki with lots of dill was available. Not to our taste (we would have preferred to have the real throughout our stay), but we assume it is a way to please tastes of other guests.
Regarding earlier comments about prices of drinks: agree, not the cheapest, but if you compare to prices around the country and hotel standard, they can certainly not be called “exuberant”. Quality and attentiveness you get when ordering e.g. a cappuccino is much higher than at most of the cafés/terraces on offer.
Small extra tip: if you’re at the harbour and “craving” ;-) for a decent and reasonably priced “café frappe” go to “La Boite 67”.

Relaxing on the grounds (we preferred the garden area) is made very easy by the staff. Sunbeds (teak) are comfortable and if you arrive a bit later than those who plant their towels at 6 in the morning, they’ll do everything to accommodate your wishes.

Exploring: we had upfront rented a car to be able to explore the beautiful island/country at our own pace. This is very well feasible, even for a “mainland” European driving on the right in daily life. The hotel has a free car-park in front of the building ànd an unground one free of charge (access through your electronic room cardkey). There also is a coastal “boardwalk” which will take you along the rocky coastline from the hotel right to the castle at the harbour. Easy walking (false level, direction of the harbour ;-) it would take you around 45 mins. (estimated distance around 2.5 KM)

Rather by coincidence my own birthday fell into the holiday period this year. The hotel has gone out of its way to celebrate this. A bottle of “bubbly” upon arrival and foremost a real birthday cake with card and candle on the day itself. We are not the type of people who like to be “in the centre” of attention, I was thus very pleased to have received this quietly in our room and not as other guests during breakfast with a full restaurant :-) Much obliged.
There is so much to see in this world, that we are not in the habit of returning to already visited places. However, if we would decide to return, we would not need to decide upon a hotel, we would just need to check availabilities!

My husband and I stayed at the Elysium last week for 7 days. It was our Pearl Wedding Anniversary and on arrival we found champagne and flowers and a personalised card in our room from the Manager. What a lovely touch!
After this, it just went from good to brilliant from the Manager's Cocktail Party to the Martini Evenings by the beach. The staff were outstanding and made everyone feel special. The training they have put them through has definitely worked as they are all, without exception, a brilliant team.
The breakfast and dinner buffets were very, very good with a fantastic selection of freshly cooked foods. If you can't find something you like on these buffets, there must be something wrong as the selection was vast.
The room was quite large and spotlessly clean. Nice touches, like housekeeping returning to the room in the evening to turn back the bed, place slippers by the bedside and replenish the toiletries was really nice.
The pool areas were spotless too and the pool like a lukewarm babies bath!
The only gripe - no ice machines and when the weather hit 40 degrees they would have been appreciated. We were able to get buckets of ice from room service but a machine on each floor would be much better.
Would we return to this hotel - absolutely!!

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a partial seaview as a minimum.

We have just returned from 10 days in the Elysium, our second visit here, and it was even better than we remember, the staff are lovely, professional, friendly and efficient, especially the waiters and staff in the restaurant, Alla, who was like a little doll and never seemed to stop running, showing people to tables so nicely, Radovistan,, Maria,Ivan and Petro(Polish) cant spell im afraid, they all made our visits to the breakfast and dinner very friendly, and when they made a mistake were very quick to apologize and offer free drink etc, , the chef marios was very funny especially when he did his dance on the Cypriot night, quite a character, the food was delicious, the spa lovely, the pools and beach were delightful particularly in the heat 40 degrees! the room was clean and very comfortable, we had been given upgrade to sea view which was lovely, what else can I say nothing was too much trouble, the receptionists, and the ladies on the information desk all very helpful and no fuss, the doormen were lovely and tried desperately to do anything for you and seemed to work very hard welcoming people, the multimedia room was lovely and cool and easy to access internet etc, One nice touch this time was a cold platter of food when we arrived in the room along with normal water and fruit, from the minute you arrive to when you leave you feel special, the courtesy room to shower in before leaving was very welcome and we stayed around the hotel for the day using all the facilities, I cannot recommend this hotel enough the architecture and pleasant areas everywhere were so relaxing with its fountains and terraces, could go on but just go yourself and you wont be disappointed!

Room Tip: Room 4101 was great, right near lift and nice view of the hotel fountains and the sea.

I can't recommend this hotel highly enough - the staff made our family holiday thoroughly enjoyable. I have stayed in some hotels where you are made to feel awkward by over-attentive service but the team here have the level just right and it made for a very relaxing stay. From Rachel in the Angel's kids club who took such amazing care of our daughter for four mornings (fabulous face painting and themed days made for an enthusiastic return visitor!), to the wonderful Afroditi and the hostess team who made us so welcome every day; Nyoku, Ivan and Stavroula who looked after us in the restaurants over the week - everyone made you honestly feel that nothing was a trouble.

The facilities were just what we needed and when we had an issue with the air conditioning on a very hot day, it was seen to and fixed within an hour, so the maintenance team has to be applauded too!

Even my husband, who is a serial moaner and finds faults with most places we have visited, could not find fault with a single thing! The swimming pools really suited us and the children's pool was lovely - shaded, with a big toy box of things for the children to share was our place of residence for the week! The food on the buffet was delicious at both breakfast and dinner and we can definitely recommend the Mediterraneo restaurant for lunch too. We only ventured out out of the hotel for three evenings to sample three local restaurants that were suggested to us, we were so settled in the hotel, we didn't find the need to go anywhere else.

I had a manicure and pedicure in the Spa with Maria, another thing I can highly recommend!

The only thing that I would perhaps find as a mild negative was the prices for sunscreen in the shop, but this is the same the world over in hotels and can't really be complained about!

We will be going back in early september hopefully!!

Room Tip: Family suites are positioned at the far edges of a hotel, so don't expect a wonderful view on ev...

Visited the elysium for the second time whilst attending a friends wedding on the island.
Since my last visit when the hotel first opened it seems to have continued its very highstandards.
Great architecture, great service and value for money would be the best way to describe it.
Yes its a five star but pricing within the hotel not much higher than uk with much better service and quality standards than back home
Whilst here for seven days i sampled most of the hotel found it very hard to find any fault.i particulary liked the meditteranean restaurant for lunch where average price would be about 18 pounds for dinner and drinks .very reasonable for the standard
I would recommend this particulary for couples as very few children were here during my stay .

Room Tip: If choosing inland view .ask for tennis court view as it also has great view of the mountains .

Stayed with my 18 year old son .
sea view room (4020), had incredible sea and pool view , just like hotel photo.
excellent cleanliness and room well maintained .
only issue was that air con . Was not working correctly despite 3 maintenance calls during our stay.
this affected our sleep as the room was uncomfortably hot.
Pool areas well laid out and outstanding service from staff who were always friendly and on hand to assist with setting up sun beds , offering cool towels and offering a first class drinks service including the beach area.
The pool bar is super with fantastic staff who go out of their way to make everyone feel relaxed . They are so quick at conjuring up whatever you want and watching them is pure entertainment.
The beach is beautiful , a small sandy cove with a pier and is protected from large waves by rocks .
There are 4 poster cabanas there and a lovely large decked seating area behind it.
There is a life guard on duty periodically.
Some evenings the beach has cocktail events which we enjoyed .
Breakfast is buffet style with chefs to cook to order along with an excellent
selection of other continental menus.
service here is excellent and efficient and the staff show genuine interest in each guest which makes all the difference.
The evening meal was another buffet as we were on half board.
The choice was varied , well presented and tasty. Different themes were evident throughout the week , Mexican , Asian , Bbq for example.
Again , the staff were superb going out of their way to ensure everyone had an enjoyable evening. There is a separate adjacent area for families with young children , close enough to be part of the atmosphere but offering a more relaxed setting .
Many people chose to ignore the dress code for the evening which was disappointing as others had obviously gone to a great deal of care to observe this . When you are sitting next to someone in a vest and shorts it tends to spoil the experience somewhat. The hotel should enforce this dress code .
Half board comes with no drink at all , not even a glass of water . Again this seems a mistake as I heard many guests complaining about this .
Show cooking was good and all the chefs seemed to be enjoying the experience as much as the guests.
Drinks at the hotel were priced as I expected but were served with a smile and real care.
The public areas of the hotel are beautiful .It is an amazing place.
But like everyone else has said before, this hotel's success is because of its staff. From the moment you arrive everyone is working so hard for you. The porters , receptionists , housekeeping teams, grounds staff , pool attendants , chefs and waiting teams , everyone always says hello with a smile . Never intrusive , always genuine . That is what made our stay so special. That is why we will return.
Thank you to all concerned.
You will not regret staying here .
