Great location, great rooms and amazing staff.A few horrible things about a hotel that markets itself as kid friendly : No life guard which I found shocking. No chain locks on the room doors from the inside which means if you have an energetic, adventurous toddler you might find them roaming the hallways.NO kids channels on tv which is a bummer at night when its time to unwind.

Otherwise, its in a perfect location and its very easy to walk to the harbor and entertain the kids after a day at the pool. Kids menu is good, but expensive as is the food in general. Not a 5 star resort by any means.More of an independent boutique hotel feel to it which I personally loved!

This is certainly not a 5-star hotel and doesn't warrant the 5-star price tag. When I booked I was told there were four pools available. I didn't realise that only two were at the hotel and the other two at The Annabelle next-door, which had its own guests to accommodate. One of the pools available was adults-only so we were, in fact, limited to only one, which was surrounded by concrete and untiled so the water was an unappealing grey colour. It was far too full and very noisy. There weren't enough sunbeds for all the guests. There is no beach to speak of.

The shower in one of our rooms flooded on first use and the screens over the baths are too small so you can't help but drench the bathroom when taking a shower. The toiletries supplied were cheap and no coffee was available in the room.

That said, the staff were excellent and very helpful at all times. The 2-bedroom deluxe suites are enormous if rather spartan. The rooms are strewn with books showing designer hotels but this hotel isn't in this category, even after the revamp.

Dear Guest,

thank you very much for staying with us at Almyra on your recent break.

We really appreciate feedback and thank you for it, but we would just need to clarify that Almyra actually has 4 pools. There is an indoor pool at Almyraspa, and outdoor pool for adults at Eauzone, there is the hotel's main pool and also an infant's pool close to it. The use of the facilities at our sister property are just an added benefit.

Also, because of the hotel's public areas and pools, sunbeds are provided in different areas in order to accommodate all our guests and it would be physically impossible to provide for all around the main pool.

Please accept our apologies for failing to reach your expectations. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future.

With regards,

We stayed here for 10 days at the end of May beginning of June for our honeymoon (with toddler and 7 month old baby) and although there were many good things about the hotel, there was a lot that needed to be addressed, especially as it sells itself as a luxury 5 star hotel.

The hotel struggles to find it's place - it tries to promote it's a spa/luxury retreat but it is also very child friendly and is constantly filled with children - toddlers outside of school holidays and older kids during. Although there are adult only areas, it is more geared towards the family.

The food was of a good quality and plenty of it in the main restaurant (buffet style) although it only had a one week rotation so anyone staying longer gets the exact same menus again. Rather disappointing for a 5 star establishment. However, the staff there are wonderful - especially the fabulous Elena who was so helpful throughout our time there. The two other eating areas (Notios and Ouzeri) do great food also but the quality of the staff can be a bit erratic - sometimes it was spot on, other times, it was quite chaotic. We had room service for lunch on several occasions and once for dinner and it was to a very high standard. Our toddler loved his meal sitting out on the terrace.

The pool area was great for our toddler and baby as one side is extremely shallow and was a good temperature. The shades over the pool were not put on until the beginning of June (when high season starts) but as it had been cooler than normal this year, they weren't needed. During the first part of our stay, there were plenty sunbeds (the normal towel reserving still evident) around the pool. However, when the English half term kicked in, and the hotel was full, there was not enough and after several complaints from a lot of the families, metal sun loungers were put out where ever they could find space which changed the look and feel of the area.

The two lifts in the hotel were small, very dark and one was out of order when we arrived and was not operational until the day before we went home. I don't know how long it was out of order before we arrived but 9 days before it was fixed is very poor service and again, not the standard you would expect in a 5 star hotel.

Our biggest disappointment was our Junior Suite sea View. We had to check whether it would be suitable for an additional single bed and a cot before we booked and were told that it would be. When we arrived, we found it quite cramped (we had also taken advantage of the Baby Go Lightly service and there was a walker, a baby seat and baby gym there). We also had no balcony (just a Juliette balcony). It's the first time we have ever booked a Suite in a hotel that didn't have a balcony. Even our travel agent said she had never had to request a balcony with a suite before. As we had two young children, a balcony is essential since a lot of the time, you will be sitting out on it in the evening while they are asleep. Now, it does actually say when you check the hotels website that not all the Junior Suites have balconies but it's not very well advertised (all the photos and room plans show a proper balcony). We had to upgrade to what the Hotel said was their signature suites - the Kyma suites. For the price we had to pay extra, I was expecting something with a bit of the wow factor - after all, it was the signature suite. Unfortunatley there was no wow factor. Yes, it was bigger, the bathroom was bigger and there was more wardrobe space but it was certainly not kitted out the way the website pictures portray. I found it quite tired (stains on the floor and on the tiles in the bathroom, a rushed paint job, basic linen) and the shower flooded on our second day there. It was fixed very quickly but by the time we were leaving it was building up to flood again - obviously a bit of an ongoing problem.

The only saving grace was the great terrace (albiet it, plain concrete) that led to a quiet grassy area overlooking the sea. This meant it was far better for the children and allowed us a lovely area to sit at night with a cold G 'n' T! The much promoted private terraces on the roof that come with the suites are a bit disappointing also. For starters, they are not private - any one can access them as it is only a wooden gate with a latch to get through. They are not really suitable for sunbathing as there is no shade at all and it gets very hot. The hotel advertises that you can use the area to private dine but we never saw anyone using it during our stay. In my opinion, the hotel uses them for some arty shots - they do look very nice with candles etc but thats about it! I don't think they represent good value for what you pay.

I also had issue with the Baby Go Lightly service. The service itself is a fabulous idea and the fact we had nappies, wipes, baby bath, baby gym, walker, potty etc all there when we arrived instead of having to cart things over, or try to find a supermarket that stocked them, was great, especially since the majority of them were complimentary. However the double buggy we had requested (which carried a daily charge) was very old, was difficult to steer, had no hoods and would not fit in the one lift that was operational. We asked for a single as a replacement and this too was very well used and had no hood. I had to go to the storage area and personally pick out the only one which had a hood out of a very poor selection. As the temperatures are regularly 25 -35 degrees in summer, I don't think it was much to ask that the prams you hire have adequate shade for your babies! The hotel did not charge us for the remaining 9 days although I am unsure whether this was because of the state of the buggies or just an oversight! The baby chair and gym were also very well used and were missing bits.

The availabilty of high chairs also became an issue when the hotel got busier and many were also in various states of repair. Many did not have the middle bar which was essential for a very wriggley 7 month old baby and so we were often left standing waiting for a chair to be found that she would not slip out of until Elena started putting one aside for us.

The hotel is the first we have gone to that offers all these child facilities but I feel they need to improve the quality of it so that it lives up to its 5 star service.

Finally, the front of house staff are wonderful but the management behind the scenes could be better. Communication seems to be very erractic and non existant at times. The menus and room service menus changed as the hotel went from low to high season while we were there (and prices increased incidently) but staff seemed unaware this had happened and there were mix ups with orders. We were given the wrong drinks bill on several occasions in the restaurant and fixing it seemed to be more difficult than it should have been.

However the worst instance was when the hotel was the venue for a Cypriot wedding with 1200 guests for cocktails and 400 for sit down meal. We were verbally informed by staff the night before and also on the day that we could not dine in the buffet restaurant that night but that we could go to the other two restaurants or the sister hotel , the Annabelle, next door. When we tried to go to the two in the hotel on the night, we were told we would have to have booked (something no one told us about) and that the Annabelle was our only option. We walked over to a buffet style BBQ on the lawn infront of the hotel (where the sun loungers normally were) which looked very pleasant. However, the sun was setting as we arrived and as it was right on the seafront it was quite cold. The food offer was very poor and by the time we sat down, we could hardly see what was on our plates as there was no lighting over the tables!

Considering this wedding must have been booked some time in advance, it was a very rushed and poor alternative we were given, and the fact that the management did not have the courtesy to inform us in writing more than 24 hours in advance, it smacked of little regard for the established clientele using their hotel.

Both the travel company we booked through and ourselves are still waiting for the hotels management to reply to the issues we raised more than a month ago which again , is very disappointing and not what you would expect from a 5 star hotel. Although our holiday was not a disaster by any means and we enjoyed ourselves, it was certainly not what we thought our 5 star luxury honeymoon would be.

we just returned from 2 weeks at this hotel. We had a lovely experience and we will return back to this hotel in september. We really enjoyed it!!
The staff are lovely very helpful too. Christiana couldn't do enough for us and Marcus always greeted us with a smile.
The hotel is really clean, rooms are spacious and the breakfast has anything what you like to have.

The harbour is very near too just 15-20 minutes walk and there is a nice sandy beach very near too.
If you are not on half board and looking for a nice place to eat then i highly recommend the Windmill Restaurant which is about 10 minutes walk (if you walk all the way through bar street find the fountain, continue going straigt on for another 200 meters and it's on your right hand side) serves delicious food!
I also advice you to hire a car and eplore the island there are some lovely places to visit as troodos mountains, agios neofitos monastery and kikos monastery too!

All in all was a lovely experience for us!

Room Tip: Better to choose a sea view room!!

Visited this hotel with 2 other guests for a week's holiday at the beginning of July. Do not book a room that may overlook the road, there is no reference to the hotel being on an incredibly noisy road with road races etc going on all night. Having met other guests during our stay, everyone had asked to change rooms for various reasons. The hotel has a very nice reception but the garden terrace rooms were a little disappointing. Beds extremely hard, bathrooms need updating and the products supplied (soap, shampoo etc) are of very poor quality. This seems to change as you move into better quality rooms. Non of the minibars are very cold (was told this was the same in all rooms) and there is a charge to put anything into them. Apparently one can keep babyfood/medicines for free in them but you wouldn't want to as they are not nearly cold enough. Some staff seemed irritated or laughed when complaints were made and be aware that weddings are held here with dancing/music going on into the night. No-one was told of this the weekend we stayed, a note under one's door to warn guests would have been appropriate but guest relations were clearly lacking. There was no sight of a manager or duty manager (who we were told about) but was clearly elusive! Thankfully there was an adult only pool but be warned that you need to reserve sunbeds by 8.45am, or earlier at the weekend, as there are not enough. They are double sun beds so not very convenient if you have an odd number of guests in your party. The buffet dinner was good with plenty of choice, breakfast would have been better if one could have had one's own pots of coffee rather than constantly having to ask for more. Sadly some evenings were spoilt with guests children behaving very badly and noisily in the dining room, the restaurant staff tried to help but to no avail. Internet access was very dodgy, working sometimes and then not, when complaints were made there seemed to be constant excuses. Paphos harbour, bars and restaurants are walking distance away but don't go there for the food, the hotel's food was far better!

Room Tip: Avoid rooms facing the road.

We are currently staying at the Almyra Hotel and are really enjoying our stay. There is one major disappointment though which is that the kids club has limited availability and on arrival we were told that it is fully booked for the whole of our stay. Apparently you can book in advance via the web site so just a warning to all those of you bringing kids in the forthcoming school holidays! They only take 16 children for each session (am or pm) so if you do want to use this facility then it would be worth booking. I wish someone had told us before we arrived as kids and us are disappointed not to have an hour or so on our own!

Dear Guest,

thank you for staying with us at Almyra and for your feedback here on TripAdvisor.

We aim to accommodate as many children as possible on our Smiling Dolphin Club and whenever possible we even bring in extra people in order to increase the availability. Please note that we work with ratios, in order to ensure the health and safety of both children and our qualified supervisors. Therefore, due to certain activities or certain locations, we may seem strict, but it is only down to the safety of our young guests. I'm sure all parents can appreciate that.

After all, we have been able to provide availability for every single child who was interested in joinining the SDC. I'm sure you understand that there needs to be a booking system and that we have to respect the guests who book in advance. I'm sure that if your Tour Operator had advised you, you would have done the same. On our website it is clearly stated.

We hope you enjoyed your holiday with us, and please excuse us for the detailed clarification.

Best regards,
Almyra Management

We have just returned from 2 weeks at the Almyra and we can honestly say we enjoyed every minute there. We had a 1st floor garden view room which was at the back of the hotel, we knew we would hardly spend anytime in there so for us this was the best option and I agree with another review that the front of the hotel is south facing so it would be almost unbearable to sit on the balconies or on the garden terraces of the sea view rooms during the day at this time of the year.

We were on a B & B package which suited us as we like to explore the local eateries when we are abroad, however that said we did spend most of our evenings at the Ouzeri which was just superb!.....I cannot praise Helli and the rest of the staff there enough, they were extremely attentive and went our of their way to make our evenings special. We had mentioned during one evening that my husband loves Kleftico but it didnt appear on the menu..... Helli said that if we wanted the chef could prepare it specially for us, so we ordered it for the last night of our stay and it was mouthwateringly excellent, they put a vase of flowers on our table and we were greeted with a glass of bubbly ...it certainly made our last night very memorable.

With regard to the rest of the hotel, I agree the sunbeds do get taken very quickly around both the family and spa pools however we prefered to lie on the sunbeds on the grassy area between the two pools which meant we could people watch and take in the great sea views all day. We used the water sports jetty to get into the sea as at the end there are steps leading into the sea which means you didnt have to negotiate the rocks, the staff there are quite amenable to this as long as you ask. There is also a small sandy area to the left of the lifeguard station about 100 metres along the sea front which was also a good place to take a dip.

Breakfast was good with everything you could possibly wish for from full english breakfast to meats and cheeses, fruit, cereal, breads and pasteries and again the staff were extremely attentive constantly coming round the the coffee pot to top up your cup!

The only gripe I had was with regard to the shower screen which didnt seen wide enough and consequently when having a shower we did get a lot of water splashing onto the floor, that said as well as the rooms being cleaned in the morning they also came in during the early evening to make sure you had everything you needed and they generally tended to mop this up and leave a dry bath mat for us.

Finally from our experience during our stay the customer service at this hotel has been second to none, everyone without exception went out of their way to make our stay special and a thank you to the Guest Services Team, Christiana and her colleague who were always on hand to help in any way they could.
