We have just returned from the Almyra and really enjoyed our stay. I debated whether it was 5 star but soon realised I was unfairly comparing against British 5stars- I guess it's one of the best in Paphos.
The main positives are a few of the staff. Markos on the door is a true gentleman - the hotel should recognise that - he makes all the guests feel extremely special and I can t comment highly enough. My son's holiday was made by his kindness. If we were to return to the hotel, it would be due to staff like him!
The two Elena's in the restaurant are also lovely as is Camelia. Really 5 star service from them. I have read on here that the hotel welcomes feedback but I don't appreciate the management doing this so obviously in public. During our stay, a rather unpleasant lady threatened the manager with 'a bad trip advisor review' because she had higher expectations of the buffet. It would have been better handled away from other guests although I do feel this lady, who I am sure will read this, ought to have been ashamed of her behaviour - commenting that she would shout to get what she wanted and even get thrown out. Luckily the rest of the guests were fabulous - lovely mix of families, singles etc who were there for a bit of sun, good food and good company. My children and I made some great friends who we will keep in touch with. It would be nice to see the managers allow staff to use their discretion to improve and personalise service instead of constantly quoting policies.
We booked interconnecting inland rooms but were upgraded to a sea view. Rooms are spacious and the view amazing. There is a juliette balcony but as we were able to stay out with the children due to the relaxed nature of the hotel, we were more than happy to retire at ten each night! The bathrooms could do with being improved to make them more luxurious, and tea and coffee facilities would be great. We also needed to refrigerate prescription baby milk which reception did for free at the bar. Much better than the original suggestion of fifteen euros to use the not very cold mini bar. Overall the rooms are nice and stylish though.
The lifts are small and we had to part collapse our double buggy to get in but managed. Ideally the path from hotel to seafront should be smoother and someone should regularly take a double pram down to ensure it is negotiable. It is blooming hard with overgrown plants, trendy stones and 2 small children!
We got a half board deal. Breakfast is fabulous with thoughtful touches such as soya milk ( great as my baby has allergies). I was told i could get soya yoghurt etc from Mosaics from guest services but the ktchen staff looked blankly when i requested it. I also thought our deal included more than one restaurant but was told on arrival it was only Mosaics buffet. Some days were excellent, others just ok and ideally there should be some credit towards the other restaurants. Notios is outstanding! If that standard of food was even similar in the buffet, this place would be truly five star!
Cocktails are fantastic! I loved the strawberry calparaska!!!
Paphos itself has beautiful views, probably a little more touristy than I would like but a nice place without the over drinking that plagues many resorts.
The hotel is very clean and the maids very pleasant and thorough. The children's park needs new equipment but this is a minor detail.
Pool is fabulous. Could do with more sunbeds around the pool to accommodate all that need them.
A tip for other parents. I bought water for baby bottles from reception at four euros to start but at the supermarket nr Debenhams at the Harbour, 6 x 1.5 litre bottles are 1.69 euros! All other baby items are available cheaply there and it takes five mins to walk there. It is at the back of Pizza Express.
Wifi is patchy but glad it is free.
Overall a good experience, made by some excellent staff. My children and I have some lifelong memories.
