“Fabulous family week in the sun”
Reviewed 18 September 2012

We stayed at the Almyra for another superb week having spent September there ;last year as well. We were travelling with two young children and the facilities were excellent with a small toddlers pool and a main pool that was shaded from the direct sunlight, the food was good and a plentiful selection of ice creams at the pool bar made for some happy kids and happy parents! There was a creche available but we didn't feel the need to use it as the holiday was relaxing. At the other end of the complex there was a decent gym and spa with an inifinity pool for adults only should anyone feel the main pool was a little too hectic. The staff were extremely welcoming and attentive but without being intrusive. The rooms were modern, well maintained, spacious and the roof terrace was an added bonus to watch the sunset. Although we didn't take advantage of it there are also facilities available at the neigbouring Annabelle Hotel which I have also stayed at on numerous occasions.

Room Tip: With young children we benfitted from additional space of a sea facing terrace.

We have just come back to England after spending 10 nights at the Almyra. We were very pleased the the service we got - there was no problem in changing our room to a lighter one as a tree outside made it rather dark.

The food was excellent with a wide variety to chose from - we couldn't have asked for more selection and the quality was very good.

The staff were really friendly and helpful - there were a lot of babies and young children but this didn't cause any problem for us - it seemed a great place to take a young family as they seemed to be well catered for.

We had a good holiday and the one thing which made it really great for me was that there were no mosquitos or wasps which I really dislike and hate getting bitten and not being able to enjoy eating food outside. We obviously chose a good month as apparently they are gone by September!

All in all, we would have no hesitation in going to the same hotel again. The one thing we would think about taking with us though would be a travel kettle as there was no tea/coffee making facility in the room.......being English, we like to have a cup of tea when we wake up in the morning!

Strengths
- good position, near the seaside and the centre of city
- it has an its own spa, with full and free access for clients
- a great breakfast
- you can eat viewing the sea
- quality/price rate is very good
- you can have a great time on its grassy beach

Weaknesses
- sometimes it smells... and it is not everywhere clean
- details (such as doors handles) are old
- you must keep attention to restaurant's bill: sometimes they added something you haven't eaten or drunk.

We visited the Alymyra for 4 nights in September with our 6 month old daughter. We found the hotel to be very family friendly without compromising on being a good place for an adult holiday as well. The hotel operates a "baby go lightly" service whereby you can request specific items (many complimentary) such as a baby gym, bouncy chair, books, nappies, wipes, a kettle, steriliser etc etc. All items requested were in our room (we had been upgraded to a sea view room) on arrival, and when I requested some wipes during our stay they arrived within 5 minutes. The items looked very clean and practically new. There are slopes everywhere in the hotel so we never had to drag a buggy up or down stairs. The children's pool has a great shade so you are never worried about the children burning, and there was also a small very shallow baby pool. It may have been a children's pool but I thought it was still very stylish and elegantly designed. We also used the crèche for a couple of afternoon sessions which was great. It operates to UK ratios and the lovely girls are all suitably qualified and experienced. When picking our daughter up they were great at giving me a full report of her afternoons activities. When the little one was at the crèche we headed to the adult pool - which was lovely and stylish (and quiet!) with a great infinity pool with sea views. There was a great informal restaurant at the adult pool where we had lovely, very fresh sushi and sashimi one afternoon. The guys in the restaurant were also good at bringing drinks and food to the sunloungers. We also used the baby sitting service - which was great. Our little one was always fast asleep when Erika (who worked at the hotel kids club) arrived so there wasn't much to do but it was wonderful to have the facility and I felt very happy with Erika. The restaurants were also good. Breakfast was plentiful, Notios was stylish, and the other restaurant had a wonderful setting over the water. We enjoyed the food at all of them. I also used the spa and really enjoyed my massage. Of course there were a couple of (small) niggles - the waiter clattering right next to our sleeping baby during dinner waking her up (of course the risk we took going out with her but the restaurant was quiet and with a little thought this didn't need to happen) and once we waited 25 mins for our cocktails at a quiet bar meaning that they had to be downed as we were wanting to get back as we had a babysitter that evening. These are small issues though. For our first trip away with a baby the hotel was great for making life easy with a baby but still had enough style and spa, adult pool etc etc to make us feel it was a holiday for the grown ups.

My now fiance and I recently stayed at the Almyra and had a wonderful time. We can’t praise the hotel enough, food was great, we were half board and there was something different every night, the pool bar restaurant was also very nice (although 5* prices). Rooms were clean and staff were friendly and attentive. But we have to say a big thanks to the hotel (esp Maria in Guest Services), because we got engaged during our stay and the hotel went out of their way to help make it all run smoothly and very special for us at the Ouzeri restaurant, so much so that we are now looking to hold our wedding at the Almyra :). I have previously stayed at the Annabelle (sister hotel next door), which was very nice but more old fashioned and traditional, quite the opposite to the Almyra which is very modern and contemporary, the gym is great, fully air conditioned and probably one of the very few hotels in Paphos where you get a seaview from the treadmill :). The Eauzone/Infinity Pool (adult pool) is just heaven – piece and quiet all day with very comfy beds, although one moan is that you get told off for taking bottles of water around that pool, yet the waiting staff don’t ever come around and ask if you would like any refreshments which you would expect from 5*. Still that’s the only moan I have, as Cyprus is one of my fav countries and out of the 6 times I have visited, I can never moan! I can highly recommend staying at this hotel, if you want to relax, enjoy good food, in lovely surroundings, because they cater for everyone, couples or family’s so I don’t think you’d be disappointed. We cannot wait to return.

Room Tip: Seaview rooms are highly recommended.

From the moment we arrived we were well looked after by the excellent staff for the duration of our stay. Nothing was too much, even when we lost our daughters toy that we thought had been removed in the bed clothes! (It wasn't, she had hidden it!)
The choice and quality of the food was excellent and where ever possible locally sourced, which is a credit to the hotel.
The rooms are spotless, although in need of a little TLC, not bad by any standard, just in need of a make over. We stayed in a Sea View room with a veranda, which i would recommend as it was ideal for watching the sunset and taking a drink of at night time.
The family pool was brilliant. It had an ariel cover which offered shade all through the day allowing your little ones to play all day without fear of them "catching" the sun as it was still pretty hot in Sept, 33c.
Spa and gym were really good, the Eauzone area and pool were excellent but quite over subscribed.
All in all a great hotel that i would not hesitate in reccomending or going to again for a late season break.

We have just returned from the Almyra and really enjoyed our stay. I debated whether it was 5 star but soon realised I was unfairly comparing against British 5stars- I guess it's one of the best in Paphos.

The main positives are a few of the staff. Markos on the door is a true gentleman - the hotel should recognise that - he makes all the guests feel extremely special and I can t comment highly enough. My son's holiday was made by his kindness. If we were to return to the hotel, it would be due to staff like him!

The two Elena's in the restaurant are also lovely as is Camelia. Really 5 star service from them. I have read on here that the hotel welcomes feedback but I don't appreciate the management doing this so obviously in public. During our stay, a rather unpleasant lady threatened the manager with 'a bad trip advisor review' because she had higher expectations of the buffet. It would have been better handled away from other guests although I do feel this lady, who I am sure will read this, ought to have been ashamed of her behaviour - commenting that she would shout to get what she wanted and even get thrown out. Luckily the rest of the guests were fabulous - lovely mix of families, singles etc who were there for a bit of sun, good food and good company. My children and I made some great friends who we will keep in touch with. It would be nice to see the managers allow staff to use their discretion to improve and personalise service instead of constantly quoting policies.

We booked interconnecting inland rooms but were upgraded to a sea view. Rooms are spacious and the view amazing. There is a juliette balcony but as we were able to stay out with the children due to the relaxed nature of the hotel, we were more than happy to retire at ten each night! The bathrooms could do with being improved to make them more luxurious, and tea and coffee facilities would be great. We also needed to refrigerate prescription baby milk which reception did for free at the bar. Much better than the original suggestion of fifteen euros to use the not very cold mini bar. Overall the rooms are nice and stylish though.

The lifts are small and we had to part collapse our double buggy to get in but managed. Ideally the path from hotel to seafront should be smoother and someone should regularly take a double pram down to ensure it is negotiable. It is blooming hard with overgrown plants, trendy stones and 2 small children!

We got a half board deal. Breakfast is fabulous with thoughtful touches such as soya milk ( great as my baby has allergies). I was told i could get soya yoghurt etc from Mosaics from guest services but the ktchen staff looked blankly when i requested it. I also thought our deal included more than one restaurant but was told on arrival it was only Mosaics buffet. Some days were excellent, others just ok and ideally there should be some credit towards the other restaurants. Notios is outstanding! If that standard of food was even similar in the buffet, this place would be truly five star!

Cocktails are fantastic! I loved the strawberry calparaska!!!

Paphos itself has beautiful views, probably a little more touristy than I would like but a nice place without the over drinking that plagues many resorts.

The hotel is very clean and the maids very pleasant and thorough. The children's park needs new equipment but this is a minor detail.

Pool is fabulous. Could do with more sunbeds around the pool to accommodate all that need them.

A tip for other parents. I bought water for baby bottles from reception at four euros to start but at the supermarket nr Debenhams at the Harbour, 6 x 1.5 litre bottles are 1.69 euros! All other baby items are available cheaply there and it takes five mins to walk there. It is at the back of Pizza Express.

Wifi is patchy but glad it is free.

Overall a good experience, made by some excellent staff. My children and I have some lifelong memories.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view but all are good.
