My husband and I recently stayed at the Athena Beach Hotel between 15-29 April 2012. We stayed here for our wedding which was on 20 April and spent our honeymoon there too.

Firstly, the hotel overall is absolutely superb and deserves a 5 star rating! The location and scenery are perfect, only 20-25 mins walk into the main harbour area, the rooms are lovely with comfy beds and are kept clean everyday - but the most remarkable thing about this hotel is the customer service - myself and my husband, and our 40+ wedding guests were blown away by the excellent quality of customer care and service. Every need was taken care of with a smile, and we didn't come across any member of staff who was not more than willing to help with any request big or small.

The staff were extremely polite and from the first moment entering the hotel we were just so gobsmacked by the excellent treatment we received - as a wedding couple we were greeted by the hotel manager when we arrived (shattered at 12am!), who brought us 2 glasses of champagne and the porter took our luggage & guided us to our lovely superior room overlooking the beach & sea.

The hotel facilities are first class with lots of entertainment, restaurants and bars. The food was fantastic and there is so much choice at reasonable prices too. We would highly recommend the Atrium restaurant which offers buffet dining, or the private Zephyr restaurant where we dined a few times which was by candlelight - very quiet and romantic. Odile the superior room manager and the staff in the Zephyr restaurant were brilliant and so helpful and polite.

Now for our wedding ... last but not least! A huge thank you to Jayne Davies, the hotel wedding manager for being an amazing support, before, during and after our wedding. No request was too difficult and Jayne was so organised with everything she really put us at ease (especially me who was stressing out!). Plus she's so personable and friendly! Our wedding day was wonderful thanks to Jayne and the staff & management at the Athena Beach Hotel and a day that we will cherish forever. All of our guests were impressed by the food for our wedding reception which had so much choice even for kids. Our ceremony was lovely in the private Persefoni gazebo overlooking the beach and the med sea - it was serene.

We would highly recommend this hotel for a general holiday, but most importantly, if you want a fantastic wedding and honeymoon then this is the place to have it!

We will most definitely be returning in the near future - and so will many of our wedding guests who truly enjoyed their stay.

Thank you once again to Jayne for making our wedding day so special and to the all the staff for making our holiday & honeymoon so pleasant and enjoyable!

Mr & Mrs Simpson

Room Tip: Ask for a room with sea view as these are lovely and the sound of the sea waves at night is so relax...

Stayed for 10 nights begining 15th April. We returned for a 2nd time to the Athena Beach as we had such a lovely holiday there in October. Despite the weather being a bit cooler than the seasonal norm and at times quite windy, we had another lovely holiday. We chose a seaview room which had excellent views over the pool, gardens and sea. The rooms are well equipped and kept really clean by the very efficient housekeeping staff. We particularly liked having a fridge to store our own drinks and having a regular supply of pool towels so we didnt need to take own with us. We found absolutely every one of the staff members that we came into contact with, including porters, reception staff, waiting staff, bar staff and general maintenance staff, to be very helpful, enthusiastic and polite. Any requests were dealt with promptly and cheerfully - nothing was too much trouble for them! We were on half board and ate in the buffet restaurant which serves good quality food with plenty of choice. Breakfast was brilliant with a huge selection of food to choose from, whatever your preferences. During our stay last october we looked forward to eating all of our meals outside on the terrace which we really enjoyed, however during our recent stay, the weather was a little cooler in the evenings so all meals were taken inside. One small criticism is that, whilst not unpleasant, the buffet restaurant which is quite large, lacks the atmosphere that is needed for evening dining. Perhaps some more ambient lighting might help? The pool area and gardens are beautifully kept and sun beds are plenty. We used the local bus service several times as you can get an all-day ticket for 3euros and travel all over the Paphos area, hopping on and off the buses at whim. We also took the pleasant walk along the sea front path to Paphos (about 30minutes walk to harbour). The pathway is broad and mostly paved and is well used by holiday makers, walker, joggers and cyclists. I took several brisk, early morning walks along the coastal path and enjoyed a good nosey at the other hotels in the area along the way. Having called in to look at several othe hotels in the area, I don't think you can beat the Athena Beach. There may be a couple of more classy and plush places (and obviously more expensive) to stay nearby but I did not feel that any of them had the unique relaxed atmosphere of the Athena Beach. They seem to have got the right balance of informality and professionalism without any of the pretentiousness that you find in some hotels.

Room Tip: Seaview, centrally placed on 3rd floor have good views.

This hotel is really lovely. The staff could not be more helpful and the food is to die for. Even though we went in April the weather was nice, the pool was too cold to go in but that didn't really matter. This hotel is right on the sea front and the walk around to the harbour only takes 30 minutes and its a really nice walk. We hired a car for a few days and we were able to take out a lunch as we were premium package. This is all inclusive and I would recomment that you take this as it is excellent value. All of the drinks were quality drinks. The only down side I could think of was that the air con was not on but it is Cyprus winter until May 1st, however, as soon as we said we were too hot a fan was delivered to our room within a very short time scale. The rooms are pleasant and have everything that you need. overall i was really impressed with this hotel.

Room Tip: try to get a sea view

Just returned from a weeks holiday at this hotel, having celebrated our birthdays there. Wonderful welcome upon arrival and we were upgraded to a suite with great views over the expansive gardens beach and sea. hotel staff are all friendly polite and helpful and nothing was too much trouble and we made extensive use of the 3 pools and fitness centre. The hotel offers a good choice of buffet in the main restaurant and great snacks in the poolside bar. The harbour is a very enjoyable walk of some 20 minutes where there is unlimited choice of great restaurants all offering value for money and good service.

we only had 2 issues with our stay:

1) The hotel heating was on in all parts of the hotel and air conditioning is not available in rooms until 1st May which in 28 degrees of heat is not condusive to a good nights sleep as rooms get very hot.

2) the small a la carte restaurant only offers a fixed multi choice menu until 1st May and if you make a booking you need to place your food order at the same time as you cannot do this on the day of dining!!

Room Tip: choose rooms with sea view and large terraces with sunbeds, gaeden rooms with plunge pools or a suit...

I treated my husband as a surprise for his 50th birthday and really could not have made a better choice. We only had 6 nights so could not go too far and Cyprus was recommended, neither of us had been before. We stayed the first week in April and it seemed that the weather changed when we arrived and turned out to be a beautiful week. We had a fantastic stay from the start with a champagne welcome and warm and friendly service. Nothing was too much trouble. I would like to say big thank you to Odile who ensured our stay was good and the lovely waiting staff in the restaurants, who were most efficient and always smiling and of course so were the ladies who cleaned our room. We had a superior deluxe room which had a very long balcony and sea view on the third floor. It was most comfortable, clean and peaceful even though we were situated over the main reception/bar area. The food was really very good. We were lucky that we were able to use the smaller restaurant, which made it a bit more special, though the food in the larger buffet restaurant was just as good with a vast choice. There was plenty of space round the pools and on the grass and small beach to not feel at all crowded. There is a lovely walk to the harbour, and plenty to do. Even the entertainment was enough, something every night if you wanted and happy hour in the bar! During our week there were two weddings but neither encroached on our stay. Buses run into the town and there was a larger supermarket and other restaurants opposite the hotel, but we did really feel the need to try them. We had a lovely meal at the harbour one evening which is easily walkable. We would certainly visit the Athena Beach again as we had such a lovely time.

Took a short vacation here in March before the place became to busy. After a long wait for our baggage and two passengers who thought they had time for a wander round the airport (why do they do that on arrival!!!) we were taken straight to the hotel.
Smooth check in and we were soon in the room. Great view over the hotel grounds and sea. Very pleased with the room. We were on B&B only because we thought that being Paphos there would be lots of places to eat nearby. However the breakfast is good and goes on till 10 so fill up and it lasts till dinner.
There are but it was very quiet this early in the season. Happy hours were good though and the 6 - 7 one at the hotel was always busy.
Hotel was fairly busy but not crowded and the majority seemed to be there for the bowling, not 10 pin so the age group was older than we expected. Still had a great time with sunbeds easy to get at any time of the day. The outdoor pools were not recommended and proved to be to cold but the indoor was heated.
Not a long walk down the beach path into Paphos and very easy to do.
Very pleasant around the harbour with lots of cafe and restaurants to sit and take in the atmosphere.
The archeological park near the harbour is well worth a visit but see the short film first as you go in to get the best from the place.
After three days we decided to get a car but being Sunday they were fairly hard to find. Chris car hire next to Debhenhams in the town was excellent with us on the road in only 10 minutes with a brand new car at very good prices, a lot better than the big chains and no fuel charges etc.
We visited Larnaca and Nicosia but not really worth the log drive. Better to go up into the Troodos mountains and see Mount Olympus. We went up in shorts and found them skiing, talk about looking out of place:).
Only thing is make sure you have a full tank of fuel.
All in all a great week at a very good hotel with excellent service from all the staff.
Will go back there if ever in Cyprus again

Room Tip: Get a sea view its well worth it and if driving stick to the speed limits, I got nicked by a police...
