“Great hotel and fantastic staff”
Reviewed 11 January 2014

Great hotel and fantastic staff running this huge but extremely clean and tidy resort. Not so often nowadays you can notice that whatever staff member you meet in your way at any hour - from Managers to bell boys, you feel honestly welcomed there and they are pampering you the best way they can. Special THANKS to client managers Odile and Jolanta for their sincere care and guidance around. Stayed 7 nights in superior room with terrace - highly recommend it to everyone, reasonably soft double bed, all usual amnities one would in 4* room and huge terrace for sun bathing in private. Another area worth to mention is resort's restaurants. There are 4 of them and each serving different style and service. Main attention is to Artium, serving buffet breakfast and buffet dinner with lot of options for various tastes. Dinner buffets are themed over week like Greek, Italian, Asian, Grill night, Mediterranean, International and Gala Buffet on saturday night. Usually we are not fancy for hotel's dinners but this time we felt to temptation and opted for 4 night dining package (16 EUR pp/night) and were not dissappointed - in fact we gained few extra kilos :-) As from my point of view, everything there was with flying colours and I highly recommend this resort to everyone reading this review.

We went to this hotel about 6 years ago and enjoyed it but we were pleased to find it even better this time. Although they had not initially acknowledged our previous visit we did get a 10% discount loyalty card, and fruit and wine after a few days. We like this location as we can walk along the sea front to the harbour where there are plenty of cafes and restaurants, and being half board we did not feel tied to the hotel. Having walked the sea front numerous times we found this hotel to be the best placed and relatively private from the coastal footpath. The pool was brilliant although a bit cold at times. The food was excellent and varied.
Overall, we can't wait to go again and are considering staying for 3 weeks if possible.

Room Tip: We had a partial sea view which was fine.

If you value your money, this is the place for you. Inexpensive, yet offers all the comforts you'd ask for in a similar type of hotel. The very clean rooms and areas, friendly service, staff welcoming of families and particularly children make it a place to return to over and over again. It has its own beach right on the water in addition to the pools. It's within walking distance from lots of restaurants. There's a bus stop right outside the hotel for those planning longer trips.

Me and My partner came here in November and we cannot fault it one bit.
I have had bad experiences with all inclusive but this hotel has changed my mind.
The room was a great size just for the two of us. The bathroom was bath/ shower. The mini bar was included so the soft drinks were filled every day.
The all inclusive drinks were great. You got branded drinks included, eg Malibu and Carlsburg
There was so much choice for breakfast.
All the resaurants were amazing the food and the staff. There was so much choice. You could not get bored. The service on around the hotel was brilliant, there were waiters coming to you by the beach and pool.
We had a situation with our transfer back to the airport, the company we booked through could not find our booking, the woman at the front desk of the hotel helped us out so much.
Its not that far from town we took a very leisurely walk there is no rush as your holiday
I would certainly recommend this hotel and I will definitely be coming back.

Room Tip: We had the room facing inland and it was fine, it a great view at night seeing the mountain lit up.

I researched loads for the perfect holiday and wedding destination. After looking on trip advisor I found the Athena beach hotel was the perfect place! And I was not disappointed.
The hotel itself was beautiful, all the staff was friendly and welcoming, they had a theme night every night of the week so it wasn't repetitive which catered for adults and kids. There was always enough sunbeds for everyone. Over all I found this hotel to be perfect!
We also got married here and can't praise the staff highly enough they arranged everything we needed from flowers to champagne breakfasts. ( our wedding planner even went out her way on the day to go To macdonalds and bring our kids a little treat to munch on whilst waiting ) they really did make it the best day of our lives. I would highly recommend anyone who is thinking if getting married to consider the Athena beach or just to holiday there. We will be returning very soon :)

We stayed for one week in this hotel at the end of September 2013. Our first impression was very good. Check in was a pleasant and speedy process and the staff at the desk were very pleasant.

Once we had taken the lift to our room, however, we were immediately struck by how dated the hotel was. The corridors and the room itself felt as though they had been taken directly from the early 80s. Later when we returned to reception and paid more attention to it, this also seemed very dated. I should clarify that this wasn’t unpleasant but we did feel that the whole hotel would benefit from modernisation.

We found our room to be more than adequate and comfortable and was suitably furnished. The balcony and the furniture on it more slightly below par as the furniture seemed very old, cheap and was discoloured. Again, this didn’t necessarily detract from our enjoyment of the balcony. Our room had a sea view and it was certainly worth paying extra for this as it was very pleasant to watch sunsets from the balcony. The balcony overlooked the pool area so it was a good vantage point from which to watch the comings and goings of other guests and we had a bird’s eye view of the gala night which we didn’t attend but was entertaining to watch especially as there was traditional live music.

We didn’t eat at the hotel during our stay so I’m unable to comment on this.
We were very pleased to find a very well equipped shop on the ground floor. This had many souvenirs as well as essential items, groceries, newspapers, magazines etc. We found the gentleman who worked in the shop to be very pleasant and approachable although I cannot remember his name.

The numerous pools were very good. They were spacious and never felt crammed. The water was a good temperature. We normally used the pools around late afternoon when they were virtually empty apart from the occasional boisterous Russian teenager demonstrating their diving ability to other guests. There were sufficient sun loungers for everyone and we particularly liked the ones on the lawn area and on the beach. We walked along the coast path a few times to Paphos and we were struck by how close together the sun loungers were at other hotels. They were squashed in so tightly at some hotels that I don’t think I’d have liked using them if I was staying there. This wasn’t a problem at the Athena Beach as there was ample space especially on the lawn. There is a jetty from the beach and we walked along this a few times to look at the fish nearby, although I wouldn’t recommend that the jetty be used by anyone with mobility issues as it does moved quite violently with the tide.

We used the terrace bar quite frequently at the start of our holiday. It wasn't called the terrace bar but I can’t remember the actual name of it. This was rather a nice place to enjoy an evening drink especially with the pool lit up. However, our enjoyment of the bar was really spoiled by the attitude of the staff there. It was quite unsettling to hear them ask each other loudly how long was left to closing time and then do theatrical grumpy faces when there was longer left than they would have liked. On one occasion we were having a chat with member of bar staff who was telling my partner and I about a particularly busy day she’d had the day before catering for a large wedding. It was a very pleasant (and rare) chat until this individual was called away very harshly by another member of staff. She apologised and said something along the lines of letting her colleagues down by talking with us.

On another occasion we had gone to the bar, bought two drinks and waited for our change of around 10€. We waited for around 20 minutes before asking where it was although we asked a different staff member to the one we had paid. She went away and made some inquiries before coming back and saying that the cashier at the bar would like to speak with us. So I went to speak with the cashier who said that she had given our change to our server and that it had obviously been lost somewhere between her and my partner and I. It took this to mean that our server had failed to give us our change. Nevertheless the cashier gave us another 10€.

We found the location of the property to be ok. It wasn’t brilliant as it was some distance from Paphos harbour. We walked it a few times and it took around 20 minutes each way. However, because the hotel is a little further away it does mean that the surroundings are quite quiet and peaceful so that was a bonus.

We used the Wi-Fi quite frequently during our stay and found it to be reasonably priced and reliable and definitely worth using.

All things considered, I would recommend the hotel but if I went again I’d avoid the bar and spend my evenings on the balcony instead which is what we did about half way through because we were made to feel like an inconvenience.

Room Tip: Try to get a view of the sea as the rooms on the other side of the hotel overlook a busy main road.
