Just returned from a weeks half board stay at the Athena Beach Hotel, Pathos. We have visited this hotel a few times before with our grown up family however on this occasion it was just my wife and I. We find the hotel to be friendly, clean, comfortable and in a nice location with a lovely, well kept spacious area for sunbathing. The main restaurant offers a selection of dishes to suit most appetites and there are other restaurants to choose from but come at an extra cost. The one or two negatives I have is you are charged for use of the bedroom safe all be it 7 euros for the week and as others have mentioned you are charged for WiFi which in a 4* plus hotel is a little puzzling. It is the first time we have visited Cyprus in the spring, we usually go August time but would definitely consider it again next year.

Room Tip: We had a side sea view but would choose a sea view next time.

My husband and I stayed here at the beginning of April for our honeymoon. When we arrived we had a room on the 3rd floor overlooking the pool and sea as we had requested. There was a congratulations note and balloons attached to the door with champagne awaiting us inside. We are used to self catering budget holidays so this was luxury for us. Twin bed was large and very comfortable. Shower had a rain shower head and standard giving you the choice.
We stayed bed and breakfast and there was so much choice, pancakes, eggs, and omelettes all cooked to order with fruit, cereals, cold meats and breads available too.
Towels were provided for the beach/pool and maid service came to the room every day.
We opted for the safe with was 1Euro a day, reasonable I thought.
There were always plenty of sunbeds available with a few families putting towels out but it was not necessary. We used loungers by the pool, on the lawn and on the beach, all lovely.

We had gyros most lunch times at the pool cafe, the waiters ask for your card to show which room you are in and this gets added to your final bill. As we were bed and breakfast we either paid at the time or we put aside the money each evening so we wouldn’t get an unexpected bill when we left.

The coastal path takes you along to the harbour, it’s about a 20/30 minute flat walk depending on how fast you go. Looking at the other hotels as we past, we definitely had picked the one with most outside space. The buses are brilliant, either 1.50 each journey or you can by a day pass for 5Euro or a week for 15Euro unlimited use. We used a day ticket to go from the hotel to the harbour, and change buses to go to the market, we then came back to the harbour and visited the mosaics and then caught the bus back to the hotel.

We walked on a windy day up to the shopping centre and then on to the Tomb of the Kings, I would recommend the bus if you don’t fancy a long hot walk…

We ate in the Italian restaurant at the hotel, we watched them make the pizza dough and cook it in a stone oven, very impressed. We ate at a few restaurants by our hotel, the two greek taverns opposite, the fiesta bar (it is nicer than it looks form the outside), we ate at the first restaurant on the left in the harbour and at Poseidon’s too (they have free wifi). If you walk to the end of the harbour there is the hobo café which has a small ice cream kiosk, 2 scoops for 2.20, the banana and mango are the best! Neither of us are drinkers so our meals cost rough

We had a family holiday of 8 inc 2 kids that stayed here in the 3rd week of April. Having only been to the Far East and the like, this was our first ever European experience and whilst it cannot be compared I would not rate this a 4 star hotel as the decor looks quite dated and the ground floor room hallways look like NHS hospital wards with the old wooden railing.

On our first night we heard a constant thudding noise in room 135. We thought it would go away and were so shattered we fell asleep. Unfortunately I was awoken at 3am as the noise had got louder leading to a change of rooms at that hour! Cut a story short, the engineer could not fix the issue and it was well after midday the next day that we finally settled.

Wifi these days is something one takes for granted in most areas let alone a 4 star hotel so were surprised to discover that for those staying in standard rooms there was 3 Euros per day charge.
Equally confusing that on the day before we were leaving I requested to buy a Wifi code to be told they had run out of 1 day codes and only 3 day or weekly codes available. I explained we only had a day left but was told too many people had bought 1 day codes on that day.....how does someone run out of Wifi on a day - was a bit silly....?

Few other quibbles, most of the TV channels didn't work, and there were only 2 english TV channels considering the vast majority of guests are from the UK I thought that was odd. Also the website states 'breathtaking land/sea views' for standard rooms, is a bit of an overstatement as we had a view of the front/ side car park so not quite breathtaking.

Aside from that I'd say it was a good and clean hotel, excellent pool areas and the variety and choice of food was very good (we were HB). The Maitre D was very attentive and always on hand for any issues. There was lots of activities for the kids who had a fantastic time so that made it all worthwhile.
Evening entertainment was a bit hit and miss with the music probably more geared towards the older guests but was still a lot of fun.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is very good with only a 20mins walk or 5mins bus ride to the Harbour.
I'd definitely recommend this hotel to anyone if you are not too fussed about aesthetics. The hotel is in need of some modernisation and simple things like electronic room keys would save a lot of hassle and go a long way.

I likely would not stay here again but I can definitely see the why a lot of people would see the appeal of staying here. Having staying in 3-5 star hotels in the Far East/ Middle East, I think Euro standards maybe somewhat out of alignment from what I expected.

Room Tip: Definitely go for a Sea View

Our party of three including a 5 year old spent a week over Easter at Athena Beach Hotel. This hotel really does have service and customer attention down to a tee. It is like a well oiled machine but in a very personal way. From check in to check out, everyone we met was helpful and smiling. The Maitre D could not have been more helpful during the evening meal when our little one had the same special request each night. He obliged happily and after day 2 anticipated the request and was ready to meet it. The kids club is well organised with genuinely caring staff.

The staff went out of their way to invite guests to enjoy various aspects of the Greek Orthodox Easter celebrations and laid on transport to a Good Friday procession and Easter Saturday midnight mass. Each child in residence was presented with their own egg and the Easter decorations in the hotel were stunning [photos appear below]. In addition, each room was presented with the traditional hard boiled eggs dyed in red and some creed and savouries to celebrate Easter. Again, a photo appears below.

The food is exceptional and even the fussiest eater will be well satisfied in my opinion.

Excellent idea to provide two sets of beach towels in the room - that way you never run out!

All in all, this is an exceptional hotel with a great deal of care and thought given to ensuring guests are cared for extremely well and whilst large, the hotel retains its personal service.

Special thanks to Madame Odile and Ulysses for their outstanding customer service and we would return in a heartbeat.

My top tips - sea views are the better option room wise. For the ladies - the hairdryers are the sort which are permanently wired into the mains and require you to hold the power button 'on' throughout drying. Personally, I was pleased I brought my dryer from home. UK travellers - no adaptors required for the electrical appliances.

My only moan was the Wifi - it was complimentary in our room as we booked superior accommodation. Otherwise it is 21 Euros for the week although Wifi is free in the reception area. It is confusing having to transfer between two Wifi connections depending whether you are in the public areas or in your room and overall I found it very slow and 'cranky', often dropping out. I think free Wifi for all would be something for the hotel to think about.

Room Tip: Without a doubt - sea view as rooms overlooking the road are likely to be noisy.

The hotel is amazing! Spotlessly clean and well maintained, the staff are so friendly each and every one of them genuinely can't do enough for you. The hotel is so child friendly, and the staff really make a fuss of the children and treat them like royalty! The food in the restaurants and the service is brilliant, so much choice and also different theme nights every evening. We had packed lunches provided by the hotel on a couple of occasions and they were massive with so much fruit and really nice cake etc. There was so much choice at every meal and everything was prepared and cooked to perfection. The hotel is in a perfect beach front location, and around a 20 minute stroll to the harbour. We honestly can't fault this hotel or its amazing staff and would visit again without a doubt. We got married at the castle on the harbour and although we chose to have our reception near the castle because we wanted to look back at where we had just married, we know that if we had chosen to hold it at the hotel it would have been amazing. Jayne the wedding co ordinator was brilliant and so helpful even before we arrived in Cyprus. She even arranged for our cake to be delivered to the hotel and reserved a section of the gorgeous balcony overlooking the sea for us to have a drinks reception and cutting the cake. The hotels complimentary wedding package is brilliant and we absolutely loved our candle lit dinner and champagne breakfast in bed! We even returned to our room to find a congratulations sign, balloons and a bottle of champagne. An amazing hotel and holiday, we can not fault in any way, highly recommended to everyone.

the hotel is beautiful. the food is the best ive ever had anywhere. the entertainment wasnt great though-the same singer on four nights-and we were only there a week. the water slide doesnt work-everyone had to walk down it!! but its aimed at mainly older people not young people. its a very friendly place-very welcoming-porters who dont let you carry your own case to the coach. we had fruit and wine in the room despite not being premier/all inclusive customers. some restaurants are for premier customers only-but the main one is lovely so it wasnt necessary. lovely comfy sunbeds on beach and in gardens. lovely walk to paphos harbour. this hotel is definately in the best place-nice beach etc.recommend it to anyone other than young people.

Room Tip: a seaview would be lovely.but we were happy to look onto the road-its not a busy one and the room is...

we have just returned from a week at the Athena Beach and were pleased that it was as good if not better than our last visit two years ago.we paid for a sea view and room 293 had a lovely view over the pool ,and next to us was a door leading down to said pool. The food in the main restaurant was very good so there was no need to upgrade to any of the others. The staff were very pleasant and helpful,we were even offered an extra week by George, all we had to do was give our credit card details.(ha ha).we will definitely be back.
