“Excellent holiday”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

We had a fantastic week here. From arrival, we were greeted with drinks and then shown around the hotel. All of the staff that we met were friendly, polite and helpful which really made our holiday. We haven't stayed in such a large hotel for many years - we swapped to villas as we have a real issue with people putting towels on loungers then disappearing for hours! Unfortunately, that mentality does still exist amongst all nationalities of holiday makers but we always found a spot on the grassed areas. We had no problems with weddings and it was fun to watch the different groups - I'm not sure I could get married in such heat! We enjoyed the food at the hotel and were disappointed not to get into Adonis as the menu sounded really good. It was a perfect spot for a week of being by the pool. Our son loved it and we would return.

Room Tip: We had an inland view which wasn't very inspiring but we didn't spend very much time in the...

We have just arrived back from our third holiday, at this wonderful hotel, in three years.
Arriving after 11 at night we were taken straight to our room and in previous years there was a lovely meat salad waiting for us but this time we had a meal in the Leda restaurant including a welcome pint of Keo after travelling such a long time to get there.
The Athena Beach Hotel is just great at everything. The things that stand out are the hard working staff where nothing is too much trouble, the cleanliness is perfect all over, the hotel and grounds including the beach. There are plenty of sunbeds for everyone.
We had the standard AI package, the meals were of excellent standard with plenty of choice. You can have the choice of two a la carte dinners per week, we really enjoyed these especially at the Adonis restaurant with a table by the waterfall.
Each evening we had drinks after dinner in the balcony area of the Nectar bar with waiter service and were impressed that the service was even quicker than last year.
The 12 days soon passed and sadly time to go home.

The hotel is 20 minutes transfer from the airport which goes by in no time. On arrival the lobby is light and open planned and incredibly well air conditioned! First impressions - the hotel is clean and pleasing on the eye. They help take your bags up to your room so you can focus on getting your sun tan lotion on! The rooms are clean, tidy and simple. The décor won't win any awards but the bathrooms are nice and the shower was good. Our room looked directly at the hotel next door but we didn't mind as we didn't plan on spending much time on the balcony. Our friends managed to sweet talk their way into a room with a sea view which was lovely, but the balconies are tiny and as such we couldn't all get on there anyway. This wasn't a problem for us as we weren't too bothered about balcony action, but I can imagine some folk love a good old sit on the balcony! The bed was impressively comfortable (albeit 2 singles pushed together, which made spooning a challenge!) and the air-con worked well. You have a mini fridge with a few beers and cans of pop in it, it will accommodate a few big bottles of water too! They also provide a nice bottle of house red wine and some fruit on arrival. You have to wait a lifetime for the lifts so only use them if you have to. The hotel grounds and the pool are kept nice and clean, the staff are all friendly and are very welcoming for the most part (there's always one!). There is a well stocked shop, a games room (very dated), desktop computers for hire and wifi payable at reception (signal works well outside – although it should be free at a 4* in this day & age surely?). The pool is warm (probably a bit too warm as it's not 'refreshing' when you take a dip – but it's a nice pool nonetheless). The hotel is set in beautiful surroundings where you can enjoy a sea view and watch the sunset. The beach is shingle and the sea floor is mainly rocky so probably not ideal for beach lovers – but it looks nice whilst you are laid on a sun bed on the lovely green grass with an ice cold pint of Keo! For the daytime there is a pool bar which does some decent food/snacks, the choice of cocktails is quite limited but the staff are really friendly. For something a bit more formal there are 2 other restaurants that serve during the day too. We travelled with an infant and the staff were very accommodating and provided a high chair on request for evening meals and breakfast. There are a selection of pools and also a little water slide for kids, there is a darts board and table tennis. There is also a crazy golf course but it was 'below par' (ahem!). There are water sports available 50meters in either direction and they seemed fairly priced and we had a great laugh on the crazy sofa! There is a path between the hotel and the beach and you can walk in either direction. A walk into Paphos takes about 20 minutes in flip flops. This was my first time all inclusive and I was a little worried I would get bored of the food, but it was spot on for the most part and plenty of choice. With the premier package you get 2 visits to the a-la-carte restaurants per week for your evening meal, and the steak was sublime! It went down well with a glass of red – sat under the stars with the steady crash of waves as the backing track. There is a good selection of drinks available including lots of named brands for lagers, ciders and spirits, they have a good variety of wines to choose from and none of us were disappointed with the drinks options. The entertainment is very average though, so don't hold out for this place if you find your spouse boring! The service at the Nectar bar is slow in the evening, they insist on coming to your table to serve you, and then they take an age to bring your drinks, as mentioned in many other reviews this is down to the fact that it is a popular wedding venue. This is a real shame because overall I was very impressed with this place. I'm not one for going back to the same place but it is definitely somewhere I would recommend.

For:
Location, scenery, good food & drinks, nice simple rooms.

Against:
Entertainment, evening bar service, no proper TV room (to watch sporting events – we were there during the World Cup and expected them to put something together!).

Room Tip: Email ahead to request a room with a sea or pool view.

Location was good, right on the coast. Very rocky but there are pontoons to get into the sea. Water sports also available either side of hotel.
Hotel as others have said is clean and tidy and dated in places. Beware of the extras even if you are all inclusive as we were ie WIFI which is very slow, key for the safe in your room and the extra charge for the a la carte - Palm Restaurant. There are themed nights for food ie Gala, Mediterranean nights etc but majority of the food is the same, always a pasta corner, chips, carvery.
Pool has no life guard although there was a man sat at the bottom of the slide into the pool most of the day keeping an eye on it! the first week we were there he didn't let anyone play with a ball or kilo in the main pool as people wanted to swim!!!! he would let anyone in the two smaller pools, but this was family hotel and by the second week I think he gave up!
We also asked for adjoining rooms and a sea view, we got two rooms next to each other and no sea view!
Supermarket just across the road is good value and cheaper than one in hotel. Bus service just outside hotel also and for 5 euros you can travel all day hopping on and off!

Good holiday though and nice place to visit. Not sure it was worth the money we paid.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view it would be worth it. the other side over looks the shops and there is a pub with...

Last Wednesday we returned home from our repeat stay in the Athena Beach and I just wanted to say that I thought that the standards could not get any better but its been 12 months since we last visited and I was very impressed that some things where even better than before!

The work to the pool bar/eating area and the larger courtesy rooms was fantastic as was the service by all waiting/bar staff. Nana on the pool bar I have to say was extremely helpful and prompt as was Maria.

I would also like to take the time to thank the impeccable cleaning staff we had room 36 that last two stays and the cleaner was friendly and attentive at all times, a true credit to the hotel.

The only thing my daughter commented on was that she said the kids club/animation team are not as good as last year and she didn't want to spend as much time doing the activities, she was however occupied using the pool and slide!

We had friends staying at the Athena Royal Beach it would have been great of they could have used there Drinks Package in our hotel to allow us to spend more time together but the waiting staff told me in the Nectar Bar that this was not possible which was a little disappointing as it would have made our holiday even more enjoyable.

It seemed to be little busier with wedding parties this year and even though larger groups congregated within the hotel the disruption that larger groups bring again did seem to be to great. Yes they where loader when all together around the pool bar but civilised non the less!

For anyone wondering is this the right hotel - I would say hands down yes. Its one of the more expensive ones but its one that shows you definitely get what you pay for.

We are unable to visit next year but I look forward to 2016 when we will once again to the Athena Beach.

Room Tip: Premium Package is well worth the upgrade with English branded drinks and fantastic food options.

We have just returned from a 12 night family holiday on all inclusive. We stayed in 2 interconnecting rooms with sea views. We very much enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again.

For us, there are a couple of improvements which could be made:

1) The basic (3 Euros per day) internet access via WiFi was very, very slow. Not worth the money.

2) Some of the staff at the pool bar were not that friendly.

However, on the whole the staff were very helpful and friendly.

Just arrived back from eleven day break having booked through Thompson - Booked 2 x sea view rooms for five of us and the first floor. Food was excellent ( we were on all inclusive) and drinks selection very impressive - branded non local spirits etc. Whilst parts of the Hotel are a little dated its very clean and the rooms were cleaned daily with new towels etc and beds very comfortable. The Athena Beach has a classy feel to it ie no shorts at dinner policy , great service, lovely grounds etc etc and was remarkably calm for such a large hotel - no fighting for sunbeds and food etc ! At first we a little alarmed that there are no pool lifeguards but it actually worked well with our seven year old actually being free to have breat fun with other children and its down to the parents to ensure safety.
Location is fantastic ie 20 mins lovely walk to the harbour (bars etc) in the evening and a number of shops /bars doctors etc right opposite hotel. Most of the staff excllent but some could smile more (local staff very freindly) others less so. (Agatha and Georgeio excellent) In summary a very well Managed hotel and I stay in fair few through work , only minor gripe is the card system for all inclusive ie needs to be shown and signed for on every order.

Room Tip: Pay extra for Sea Veiw - Aviod rooms near breakfast room as staff start early and are noisy Do no...
