The greatest asset of the Alexander the Great Beach Hotel is it's staff - they are polite, friendly and extremely helpful. Raj has an extra special smile which never fades and Emma and Paula are always cheerful and clearly proud to provide such excellent service!

There is a cocktail reception once a week for new arrivals and this is hosted by some the senior managers - which I think demonstrates how much they value their customers. This also enables you to recognise the management and raises your awareness of their high profile around the hotel at all times.

We very much enjoyed the 3 a la carte restaurants - the quality and presentation of the food was excellent and it was lovely to be served rather than going to a buffet.
If staying half or full board, a bottle of water and a glass of wine/beer/soft drink are included with each meal. This is a brilliant idea and cuts down on costs.

Although we didn't use it much, the on site entertainment was excellent - the All Stars Team work incredibly hard all day and again never stop smiling!

It was perfect for us to be allocated sun beds in the adults only pool area as we were travelling without children.

The happy hour in the at the Infinity Bar was brilliant - only 2 types of cocktail included, although other drinks were available but the Ouzo Special was potent and pleasurable and only 2 Euros each!

Our room and balcony were smaller than we anticipated but this was our own fault as we booked the wrong type of room (twin instead of double), however it was quiet and the housekeeping was incredibly efficient. (Thomson's brochure shows the same photos for most types of room and our room certainly looked nothing like the ones in the brochure.) Again the staff couldn't do enough for us and they were always cheerful and polite. A big thank you Karinoula and the other ladies.

We have been to many 4* hotels around the Med but none come close to this quality of service.

Although the local beaches are not large and sandy there are plenty of places to safely swim in the sea.

Pafos town is an easy stroll along the waterfront and has an interesting archaeological site spread over a huge area (4.5 Euros entry fee). Don't visit this when the sun is high as there is no shade, but it is a must see!

The exchange rate in the town was better than back in the UK. (and a litre of Bombay Sapphire was only 13.50Euros!!!)

Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. Thanks for a lovely holiday.

Room Tip: Sea view room is a must and choose a double

Another great stay at this exceptional hotel . Spoilt again in one of the fabulous cabana rooms with a pool My husband and I enjoyed everything about our holiday and echo all other guests opinions regarding the hotel facilities , cleanliness ,friendliness and entertainment . Given my gluten intolerance I was relieved to find how helpful and knowledgeable the catering staff in all the restaurants were. It is reassuring to know and another reason why Alexander the Great ticks another box for customer service second to none . Thank you . See you next year .

Staff were lovely, polite and helpful. Hotel public areas were very clean, room cleaned twice a day to an excellent standard. Large pool, also an adult only pool. One of the best features was having your sun beds assigned to you for the duration of your stay. This worked very well. Fantastic, no need to worry about reserving beds - there was 2 sunbeds, a chair, small table and parasol at every 'station'. Pool bar pints of Keo quite expensive at 4 euro and in a plastic cup - a walk into Paphos and you could have a pint of Stella for 2.95 euro in a glass. Pool bar food prices were similar to elsewhere. The location was just right for us. The walk into Paphos was pleasant, along the front and took about 15mins. A very small beach is next to the hotel, however, the coast line of Paphos is rather rocky - not a sandy beach scene. The only downside was that we paid for a partial sea view (which was about £80 more, I think) and, from the way it was advertised, I assumed we would be able to see the sea (partially) when sitting on the balcony - otherwise, what's the point? We had Room 118, which was a really nice room but the partial sea view could only be seen if you peered your head around the corner, when standing. It was mainly a car park view. I asked if their was any other rooms available, the staff were very helpful but due to being high season, they were unable to accommodate this. I heard at least 3 other people complain about the 'partial sea view' so I suggested in my feedback they strongly consider about how this advertise this extra. Many people were left disappointed at this. The room was great, especially the bathroom. Free wifi too in the hotel grounds. We got a taxi from and to the airport, it was 30 euro. Other than the partial sea view and expensive pints, this was a great hotel and we would stay again.

Our family of 4 adults and a 4 year old granddaughter visited this hotel 23 July-30 July on a half-board plus basis which included drinks with the evening meal in the restaurant.

We had previously visited in October 2012 and October 2013 with adult relatives and decided to visit this year with daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter for our annual summer holiday.

We all enjoyed our stay and have no hesitation in booking a return visit. We had rooms 138 and 140 which were without sea views which did not bother us in view of the little time spent in the rooms. The beds were most comfortable and we did not have any problem with noise from the road. The Smart TVs were useful.

The 4 year old took advantage of the Little Monsters kids' club which gave the adults a bit of a break.

Food at breakfast and dinner was varied and well presented and we enjoyed our evenings at Garibaldi's.

We look forward to returning.

There is no question that this is a good quality hotel providing excellent service and food. However there do appear to be a number of annoying faults creeping in. Check your balcony before you accept your room, our sea view would hav been a glorious view of the pool roof and its air conditioning had we not complained. The reception staff were not entirely happy about this although did eventually find us a new room.

There is some real inconsistencies with dress code in the restaurants, jeans and trainers acceptable men in sandals not, women in sandals are. Italian restaurant shorts not allowed denim dungarees are.

However the overall feeling is lack of space, the tables in the restaurants are too close together as are the sun beds. Don't get me wrong this remains a good hotel which I would rerun to but certainly the issue of room allocation and reception staff with attitude needs addressing.

Room Tip: If you have booked a sea view make sure you check it before you accept it, particularly if it is on...

Stayed here for a week in July. Very clean rooms and housekeeping staff were very helpful when we needed an extra towel. 2 adults and an 11 year old in the room, and only gripe was a very hard sofa-bed for daughter. No sprung mattress at all, and she had to sleep on an inflatable. That said, the room was comfortable. TV was good size, but never managed to get the internet to work on it, even though it was connected to system. All tv channels were via internet and some had a tendency to freeze. The most notable was when a key putt was being made in the open and it froze as he hit the ball!! Not a vast choice of channels but those we did get were ok. Pool area excellent and well maintained. 11yr old daughter was a bit put out when the lifeguard blew his whistle and gesticulated for her to remove the inflatable from the pool. Signage was clear about bottles, diving etc but no mention of inflatables being banned. She was rather upset and not amused. Pool was quite empty at that time so not sure why the need to ban them! Enjoyed the food and thought there was ample variety with each evening having a theme. Breakfast was well set and they even had porridge!! Waiting staff were excellent and always made an effort to check we were ok or if we needed anything. Location was good, with a few steps down to the beach or a short 10 minute stroll to the town centre beach area with all the shops and restaurants. Bus route outside the hotel had you in the centre of town for one euro fifty. in 10 minutes. Manager was on hand and very helpful. He threw a small drinks party for guests and made an effort to talk with everyone during the day.
Entertainment was as expected. Small team but they worked very hard and there were some fun events. British guests were the in majority and were a bit reluctant to join in some things. Sun bed allocation worked for us but could see some did not like their allocated spot. All in all, a restful week with loads of sun and swimming. (Waves on the beach were a little active, so snorkeling not possible - sea too misty)

Room Tip: Sea view always best;

Booked this hotel to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary after viewing it the previous year on our holiday to Paphos, its location, looks and cleanliness most attractive.

Wanting this to be extra special I contacted the hotel direct via email (Phillippa/Leoni) to ask if they could supply extras for the room such as flowers etc, they replied immediately stating they would ensure a floral arrangement (at cost) was placed with complimentary champagne. Further email correspondence from Leoni asked if I wanted to place a personal message with the floral arrangement, which she also arranged for me. The day before flying I received a further email from the hotel asking if they could contact me via phone as had something to offer us - they once again immediately contacted me direct from Cyprus, we were offered a free room upgrade from our cabana room to the amazing Royal Penthouse (Presidential) Suite!

On arrival our bags were collected by the bellboy and taken to the room within minutes while we completed the check-in process which was performed with absolute ease due to the accommodating front desk staff. We entered our 3rd floor penthouse room, it was totally amazing!! words cannot describe how luxurious this room is but needless to say we could not believe we were now staying in this suite for 2 weeks. Wanting to thank our Guest Relations Manager (Phillippa) we shot back to the lobby. Phillippa could not be more helpful & lovely, she belayed fears we had that the room may not be a completely free upgrade and talked us through why we had been selected for this fabulous upgrade. Once back in the room a 2nd bottle of champagne in an ice bucket had been placed courtesy of Phillippa with a lovely message wishing us a happy anniversary & great holiday. This is attention we have never received anywhere and I personally have traveled to many countries all over the world, an absolute credit to not only the Alexander the Great Hotel but the hotel industry in its entirety.

All hotel staff greeted us with smiles and friendly chat wherever we went, especially Emma & the head waiter in the restaurant, they went out of their way to help when I felt unwell one evening and didn't make dinner, many thanks to them both and all the restaurant staff.

The hotel itself is fantastic, very clean and furnished to high standards. We found the pool area the best we have ever experienced. The allocation system for sunbeds is such a great idea too, on day 1 we just went to see Nikos who allocated us sunbeds of our choice plus parosol which are then ours for the entire stay unless you want to swap mid week, no need to place towels at 5am every morning just saunter out any time of day and your sunbeds are ready for you.

This is a hotel we would both recommend 100%, even leaving was emotional we loved this stay so much, think Phillippa can testify to that!

We would like to thank all the staff once again for a perfect holiday and even better silver wedding anniversary, you were all amazing. We will be back!

Also that our new pools met with your approval and the sun bed allocation system.
