“Great Hotel - Average Food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 August 2014

Just returned from a week at the ATG . The hotel is excellently situated , staff are excellent, Room with Sea View excellent...Reserved sunbeds for the whole holiday great !

Downside , the food is very average.. out of 5 restaurants not one served a Steak ! Fresh Fish ,Prawns or even a decent piece of Chicken ! we stayed HB 4 out of the 6 nights were Greek buffet food...which gets a little boring...

Room Tip: Book a sea view on the third floor !

We had read the excellent reviews for this hotel and were not disappointed. The hotel is one of the best we have ever stayed in. The staff are absolutely fabulous from the manager through to the lovely ladies who cleaned our room, nothing was too much trouble. Allocated sunbeds is a great touch and it was lovely returning mid afternoon knowing that we would not have to search for a bed. The buffet breakfast and evening meal is of a very high standard along with the alternative restaurants, especially the romantic setting for the Japanese meal. We can highly recommend Alexander the Great and on a closing note, their amazing Pina Coladas

We stayed at ATG in October 2013. We booked a beach cabana room with a private pool as we decided this is where we wanted to become Mr & Mrs so thought we would splash out! It was the perfect venue, loved the hotel & staff were fab. Thank you ATG, we will be back!

This is the way all hotels should be. First thing i did on our return was check if the Kanika group had hotels anywhere else unfortunately they are only in Cyprus and although we like to go to different places each year, we may make an exception in this case.
The staff are a variety of nationalities and ages and are without exception friendly, polite, courteous and provide excellent service.
Rooms are cleaned twice per day and in the evening the housekeepers close the curtains, turn down the beds and leave a chocolate on your pillow a lovely touch. Our room (a double) was spacious with a small balcony, advertised as side sea view which we paid extra for,but we wouldnt bother next time as the view wasn't that great as it overlooked mainly the car park so we would either do without a balcony or pay more for a full seaview.
The rooms have a small minibar which you can either have emptied and use as a fridge for 5euros per day or keep a few items in for free. Rooms also have very efficient airconditioning.
The sunbed allocation is a brilliant idea which all hotels should follow and the hotel supplies beach towels for guests in their rooms which are changed daily.
The management cocktail meet and greet is a nice way for guests to mingle, however it was rather expected that management would make a little speech of some sort.
We only ate in one of the four restaurants where the food was beautifully presented and of a very high qaulity with a good vegetarian selection.
The hotel itself seems to be a very popular choice of wedding venue, during our stay there seemed to be a wedding most days.
The entertainment is very slick and professional, well done All-Stars and suits a variety of people and ages which is no easy task......
The whole ethos of the hotel is of quality, comfort, excelllent service and staff and I would recommend it to anyone

Room Tip: Worth paying extra for a full sea view on an upper floor.

This was our fourth stay at the Alexander the first being about 12 years ago and the last being 5 years ago. These were before my Trip Advisor days although I did review it on another site name of which escapes me.

The hotel had a huge upgrade last year and it was our favourite hotel before it. The upgrade, especially a huge new pool and refitting of all bedrooms has made it even better. There is also a huge indoor pool and a well equipped gym and sauna and steam room.

They still have the system of allocating sunbeds that they have done since before our first stay. You choose where you want to be from a chart. You can change at any time. Good days to change are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays as these are the "changeover" days. We swapped to one by the pool which was great.

The bedrooms are very comfortable with proper divan beds (not like most beds abroad) and a choice of pillow types. The drawers are all self-closing and are spotless like the whole hotel. They have smart TVs which tended to be a bit hit and miss at times as they all work through the internet, so you have a huge range of channels but if everyone watches the same ones it can get stuck. I believe it's called bandwidth problems.

There is free WiFi throughout the hotel (a hobby horse of mine) with good reception most of the time but they also have free internet access via computers in reception.

The staff here have always been very attentive and they have many long serving members of staff who remembered us from earlier trips. They also have a high staff to guest ratio so there is never any waiting to be served or seated. The guest relations officer, Phillippa, was very helpful as are all the reception staff.

Most guests were British but there are plenty of other nationalities. When we first went only Thomson went from the UK but several tour operators include the Alexander. We chose Thomas Cook because they have day flights home whereas Thomson have mainly night flights.

Breakfast is served in the main Royale restaurant which has a big outdoor section on the terrace, where we always ate. For our first two visits we went B and B with the occasional dinner using their flexi dining system but this time we were half board. The Alexander now operates Half Board extra which includes a bottle of water and a glass of wine or a beer or soft drink (if you want more you can pay extra). As well as the main restaurant for dinner (usually Roxanne's) they now have three special restaurants, one Japanese, one Italian and one Cypriot. Half board guests are entitled to have one meal in each per week without any extra charge.

The Cypriot restaurants serves a typical Meze which was good quality and quantity and is particularly excellent for newcomers. I was reluctant to try the Japanese as was expecting nothing but raw fish but it was fabulous. Yes they serve Sushi as a starter option which I enjoyed but their main courses were superb, duck the first time and chicken the next.
The Italian restaurant serves great quality and quantity in a lovely atmosphere.

The two supermarkets over the road have been there since before our first visit and we know the owners quite well. Several restaurants have also been there for years. Our favourite has always been Les Amis just 200 yards up the road and along a side street. They serve fabulous food at great prices. (Try the lamb Kleftiko). Another good restaurant is the Atrion, just across the street.

Evening entertainment was fairly good but there is plenty in the town to choose from. Bar prices are reasonable for a hotel of this quality.

I would like to find something to criticise but there isn't anything. Throw in the great weather as well and you have a perfect hotel.

Room Tip: Sea view is probably best but not really worth the extra. We had a side sea view which was great.

Thank you for mentioning the recent renovations, the new pools, the sun bed allocation system, that you found the rooms to be very comfortable and liked the divan beds we have. Most importantly our greatest asset the team of staff we have. We are very proud of each and every one of them and their commitment to provide the very best in customer service. Great people, very friendly all of them (didn't matter if it was reception, bar, restaurant, cleaninglady). Always with a smile and a friendly word! Food was good, lots of different choices, nicely maked, also the japanees was great! We had a familyroom what was for sure big enough only a shame that it didn't had a balcony (If we have to be really critical).
But to say it shortly : It was a great holiday at a great hotel, thank you so much!

The greatest asset of the Alexander the Great Beach Hotel is it's staff - they are polite, friendly and extremely helpful. Raj has an extra special smile which never fades and Emma and Paula are always cheerful and clearly proud to provide such excellent service!

There is a cocktail reception once a week for new arrivals and this is hosted by some the senior managers - which I think demonstrates how much they value their customers. This also enables you to recognise the management and raises your awareness of their high profile around the hotel at all times.

We very much enjoyed the 3 a la carte restaurants - the quality and presentation of the food was excellent and it was lovely to be served rather than going to a buffet.
If staying half or full board, a bottle of water and a glass of wine/beer/soft drink are included with each meal. This is a brilliant idea and cuts down on costs.

Although we didn't use it much, the on site entertainment was excellent - the All Stars Team work incredibly hard all day and again never stop smiling!

It was perfect for us to be allocated sun beds in the adults only pool area as we were travelling without children.

The happy hour in the at the Infinity Bar was brilliant - only 2 types of cocktail included, although other drinks were available but the Ouzo Special was potent and pleasurable and only 2 Euros each!

Our room and balcony were smaller than we anticipated but this was our own fault as we booked the wrong type of room (twin instead of double), however it was quiet and the housekeeping was incredibly efficient. (Thomson's brochure shows the same photos for most types of room and our room certainly looked nothing like the ones in the brochure.) Again the staff couldn't do enough for us and they were always cheerful and polite. A big thank you Karinoula and the other ladies.

We have been to many 4* hotels around the Med but none come close to this quality of service.

Although the local beaches are not large and sandy there are plenty of places to safely swim in the sea.

Pafos town is an easy stroll along the waterfront and has an interesting archaeological site spread over a huge area (4.5 Euros entry fee). Don't visit this when the sun is high as there is no shade, but it is a must see!

The exchange rate in the town was better than back in the UK. (and a litre of Bombay Sapphire was only 13.50Euros!!!)

Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. Thanks for a lovely holiday.

Room Tip: Sea view room is a must and choose a double
