“Another relaxing stay”
Reviewed 23 March 2014

Our second stay at this hotel from the 2nd to 9th of March, so we knew what to expect and were not disappointed in any way, even had a really warm week.
This hotel is managed to a very high standard, staff are all very friendly, food and drinks were all top quality and a huge selection.
Our room had all we required, very clean, re furbished bathroom with a powerful shower plus soaps and shampoo, and most importantly of all nice beds.
Sunbeds are numerous as are quiet spots to read or watch the world go by.
One slight problem is the location, it's on its own at the end of a long group of hotels, but buses pass outside every 15mins, 1.5 euro's to the harbour of Paphos for lots of bars and eateries, plus shopping, or walk on the really nice coastal footpath, allow about 1 hour casual walking.
We rate this as very good value for money and might return one day for visit no 3.

Just returned from a week at the Phaethon. We had a lovely holiday. All staff very friendly and efficient. Choice of food at all meal times varied and good quality. Bedroom spacious and comfortable. All aspects of hotel inside and out kept very clean. We found choice of drinks and quality best we have experienced in an all inclusive hotel. Sun beds and brollies plentiful. We did walk into Paphos along the coast which really is a lovely walk and there are seats if you need to stop. Entertainment both by the animation team and visiting acts really good. Plenty of day time activities if required. In summary a lovely hotel and excellent value. A lasting impression was the Management and some of the animation team taking the time to wish us a safe journey home.

Room Tip: Our room was overlooking the atrium which if you are a light sleeper or early to bed may disturb you...

We stayed here last May with friends who we're celebrating a birthday and we found the Staff to be one of the best in resort we have stayed at. And that is why we have decided to go back to celebrate a very special anniversary (45 years is that 3 life sentences) of course we must mention the food a pleasure to go to dinner each night. We ate at the snack bar during the day the Asian section a lovely touch as well as everything else. Rooms kept immaculate by very good housekeeping. This is a lovely Hotel. GO THERE

Having read a lot of good reviews on trip advisor about this hotel we decided to give it a go, we were perfectly aware of its location so we knew about the walk into Paphos. On arrival we were welcomed with a drink and check in went quite smoothly, first impressions quite good, room was ok clean and comfortable . The reviews we read said food and staff were the highlights of the hotel mmm....... not what we found ! To be fair for all inclusive the choice of food was good but in the first few days most of it was cold or luke warm, trays were not replenished quickly enough ie no custard for the chocolate sponge, no bacon at breakfast and so on, every morning went for yoghurt, no bowls, went for honey, no honey, did We did complain to the Thomson rep and things did improve slightly but still far from perfect. The restaurant staff need to learn to smile and be polite to clients and seem to forget who was paying their wages, they seemed to treat the whole thing as a massive chore. On the other hand the bar staff in the reception bar were totally different, nothing any trouble, always pleasant and polite.
The main complaint we had was the noise level created by the animation staff while doing the daily games ,darts, etc. Why you need a microphone and huge speakers to talk to those taking part , normally a group of about 20 people in a small area of the hotel bellowing out noise which could be heard about half a mile away is totally beyond me, this happened every day totally shattering any chance of peace and quiet while lying in the sun trying to relax. If you want quiet this is not the hotel !! Again this was mentioned to the rep, but nothing done to resolve it.The evening entertainment was poor and was on far too late in my opinion not starting till after 10.00pm by which time most of the clients who on the whole were elderly had long gone to bed!
In summary I suppose the old saying is true, you do get what you pay for ,but to be honest I'd rather have paid more and had more peace and quiet, after all isn't that the reason for going on holiadys in the first place. We have stayed in several all inclusive hotels in Cyprus but I would rate this as the worst and we will not be returning anytime soon.

Room Tip: anywhere well away from the microphone noise is good ! IE any other hotel.

"Dear guest,

First and foremost we want to thank you for holidaying at the Louis Phaethon.

We regret to hear that our hotel did not meet your expectations despite being good value for money as you say. We are sorry to read that the temperature of our dishes was inappropriate and that the replenishment of the buffet was inefficient. We totally understand your concern and will look into the matter closely in order to prevent similar incidents in the near future. In regards to your remarks concerning the service culture in our restaurant we are truly astounded, for they usually receive so much praise for their service expertise and friendliness. Nonetheless we assure you that we will inform our Restaurant Manager of your discomfort. As for your comments regarding our animation team, they are indeed very energetic and we feel this is a must in family hotel like ours.

It seems you were in search of a more quiet environment and we are happy to inform you that Louis Hotels also manages properties which offer exactly this. Examples in Paphos include the Louis Ledra, Louis Imperial and The King Jason. Visiting any one of these would meet your expectations. Despite your general disappointment we still hope you had a good time and that this experience will not refrain you from visiting another Louis hotel in the future.

Kind regards,

The Management"

Ok we are biased having stayed at the Phaethon many times before. It is the staff who make the hotel so special from the moment we arrived to be greeted as old friends rather than customers to the moment we left with staff and management wishing us a safe journey and hoping to see us again soon. This year we found the entertainment the best we have seen with new shows of near professional quality even the guests who took part in the X factor show were in most cases quite good, the animation team work really hard running all sorts of daytime activities then they put on the evening entertainment they are on the go from 10am until midnight so they definitely earn their wages. We do hope that they get the chance to read this and know that what they do is appreciated and we do hope that Thomson and the Phaethon management appreciate their hard work. Food as always was excellent with a wide choice of British and dishes from many parts of the world. As it was still winter season the Chinese restaurant was not open but the Chinese chefs put on an excellent set of Chinese and Asian dishes every lunchtime in the main restaurant the only drawback is that we cannot find a chines takeaway in our area that matches the standard of the Phaethon's Chines food. The rooms are a good size and well appointed and most people going this time of year get sea views. We went in early March when there are not many children and most of the guests were of the older generation however our 22 year old grandson said that there was plenty to do even for someone of his age. Yes there is no sandy beach as such but from May to October there is a really good waterpark in the hotel to keep the younger guests very happy while the older guest relax around the pool. The hotel is approximately 3Km from the harbour but even we at 70 can walk into town in 35 minutes along the seaside paved path but you can always get the bus from just outside the hotel and it costs 1.50 euros for a single ticket or 5 euros for an all day ticket enabling you to go anywhere in the Paphos bus area. This year we hired a car to get about for three days and went up the Troodos mountains which is some 1700 metres high, we set off in sunshine then drove through fog (actually low cloud) then at the top it snowed finally returning to the Phaethon once more in the sun an experience we thoroughly enjoyed. We will most certainly return again to the Phaethon as soon as we can

Room Tip: Any room with a sea view

My wife and I booked this holiday from the "Late Deals" of Thomson's. So, after an overnight in the Holiday Inn Airport (Review Later), we flew out on a glorious Wednesday morning. The flight plan seemed rather strange but the clear weather allowed excellent aerial views of each country we passed over.On landing at Paphos, we experienced a Rep. who directed us to the Coaches to transfer to Hotel. Or rather not ! ! If we had followed her instructions we would still be wandering round the coach park looking for Coach T8. On re-asking another Rep, she said coach was on Stand 8 and was Coach T15, which we had passed. Thomson Reps please get Info correct. Once onboard, the transfer was very quick and first drop-off.
However, to the main part of our holiday and Review of the Louis Phaethon Hotel. My Rating of "Very Good" is based on the fact that several "small" aspects could be improved on and will be detailed in review. There was a mix of ages and nationalities throughout our week's stay and enjoyed everyone's company.
THE HOTEL: On arrival at Hotel, we were met by very friendly staff who offered either wine, beer or soft drinks, along with local cake and biscuits whilst quickly checking in. The Reception staff were very informative and handled everybody with same cheerful outlook. The Hotel is only three floors high, with lifts in Atrium and at either end of building, so not far to get to the rooms. Our Room (2028), though on the small side, was adequate with plenty of storage for clothes and empty cases. It had twin beds, a sofa and armchair, along with a rather dated TV. Here was a couple of points for improvement. The Bed had (for me) a very firm mattress and caused lower backache, whilst the TV required retuning but had only News Channels in English along with a strange combination of Sky 1 and Sky Atlantic. Possible to obtain at least one of the Main UK Channels, please. The Bathroom/Shower looked to have been recently refurbished, however, there was only soap dispensers at Wash hand and Bath/Shower with no extras such as Conditioner and Body Lotion that is expected in Four Star Hotels. The Balcony was by far the largest we have experienced in any hotel and overlooked the pool and further to the beach. We then had a message from F.O.H Manager to meet him personally to see if our room request had been met. We mentioned the details of above and though he did help in some ways with the tuning of the TV, there was not anything he could do at this time with other aspects. The room was kept immaculately clean by our Chambermaid, who replaced towels and amenties on a daily basis.
The main public area of the Atrium was situated between Reception and the Bar, along with a separate area for the Coffee Shop. Just outside the Bar was a Terrace, which was a suntrap during the day and had heaters placed for those wanting to "puff" at night. The Bar had a variety of drinks on offer but for AI guests there was a limited selection of local beer, which was fine and spirits, especially whisky, which were not so palatable. Again the minor improvement could have AI include a better brand of spirits. In the Bar, both the serving staff and waiting staff had everyone's order almost served before asking, by remembering you personally and taking time to chat. They certainly worked hard and earned their wages.
Down a half flight of stairs off the Atrium was the large Dining Room, also with an outdoor terrace, where meals could be taken. On entering the Dining Room, you were met by staff who showed you to a table and pointed out the drinks area and the somewhat strange layout of the Buffet. This layout meant people had to use more than one station and could cause confusion, another of the minor points.
Breakfast was the same each morning but had all that was necessary from "Continental" to the "Full".
Lunch and Dinner had a variety on the Menu each day and had again, something for every taste and palate. There was also a Snacks Station at Lunch and into the afternoon and again in the evening, however because this station was little used and there wasn't many children, the food here did tend to be not as hot as the main stations as needed. There was a Microwave that could be used to reheat food ?
Here too, the Waiting Staff worked exceedingly hard and cleared plates between courses before you knew it and had tables reset for the next guests, all with a smile and some chat of recognition.
POOL: In main summer season there will be two pools, a children's play pool and pirate play boat along with a Water Slide Pool. However, at this time of year only the main pool was open, but still had plenty of room for everyone to have a sunbed without being overcrowded. There is also a grassy area to the side of the pool where there are also plenty of sunbeds. Some people did use the area around the second pool to sunbathe. For the summer season, the Snack Station is at the far end of the Pool and is also used for drinks. Some of the day time activities take place in front of this. Also from this end, there is a path down to the Beach, where a short walk will take you to a "Sandy Beach". This is also the shore path along to Paphos Town for the more energetic as it takes around 45-60 minutes to walk to the town with not a lot of interest to see.
ENTERTAINMENT: This was the largest team we have seen at any Hotel and each one played their part both day and night to ensure everyone was enjoying their holiday by taking time to talk to as many people as possible. This was done in a most unobtrusive way.
Daytime activities took the form of varies sporting games such as Bowls, Archery, Table Tennis and Darts, along with (Our Favourite) a morning and afternoon Quiz, the winners (SAGRIA) receiving a "Diploma".
The Evening Entertainment also followed a particular pattern of Mini-Disco, Music Quiz, Diploma Presentation, Bingo and finally a "Show" by the Animation Team. Particular mention must be made of several evening shows for their professional presentation.
An abridged version with songs from "Mama Mia" and "Hairspray" were well acted by the team and all had excellent voices to perform the songs, whilst a M/F Duo took part in "Tribute" songs to various Artists. The lesser of the performances of the week were the "Strictly Spectacular" of Couple Ballroom Dancing and a Solo Dancer of Local Dances, as was the evening of the "X Factor" show which was more or less a Karaoke night.
However the two highlights of the week were the "U V Show" and especially the "Lord Of THe Dance" Show where the whole team were EXCELLENT and ENERGETIC in both song and Irish Dance. A standing ovation was well deserved.

HOTEL AREA: As mentioned, the Hotel is at the end of the Hotel Strip and a good walk from Paphos, but it's only a short bus ride from the Stop outside of the Hotel to the Harbour area for 1.50 Euro. Paphos itself is at this time a fairly quiet resort with main shopping area leading to street with pubs and restaurants and back to pleasant Promenade along the Harbour past the moored Yachts and more Restaurants and Craft shops to the Ancient Harbour Fortress.
Our favourite was the "Harbour Bar" where you could sit outside on comfortable wicker sofas with plush cushions and people watch whilst sipping an "All Day Happy Hour" drink.

OVERALL: Despite my few niggles, which hopefully can be resolved with little fuss, I would recommend this hotel for both Couples and Families, depending on the season, which for us had a couple of cold rainy days, but in clear blue sky, when the sun shone it was really warm sunbathing weather.
From Management/Reception, through Service/ Waiting Staff and to Animacion Team, they all had one thing in mind, to ensure your holiday was special and the Hotel, with the minor "tweeks" mentioned could actually upgrade to Four Star Plus (****+).
The gesture of personally bidding each guest "Farewell" by the Management and Entertainment Team was a fitting end to the holiday.

Room Tip: Request High Room with Sea View by E-Mail prior to arrival and FOH Manager will try to please.

"""Dear guest,

Let us first of all thank you for selecting the Louis Phaethon Beach as your holiday destination and for submitting such an extensive and informative review about your stay.

It is wonderful to hear that your overall vacation was memorable, and that our front line personnel did their utmost to ensure that your requests were met. We also appreciate your positive comments concerning your accommodation and are very pleased that you felt comfortable. Regarding your remark concerning the absence of additional toiletries, please be informed that we refrain from making them available in an effort to improve our environmental footprint. You also mentioned some design elements related to our accommodation, and rest assured that we have noted them for future improvements. As for our buffet layout, we feel your comment is reasonable at this time of the year but as our occupancy increases the spaciousness is very much appreciated by our guests, simply because it helps avoid queues.

We are glad that, despite some minor niggles you were still able to enjoy your stay at the Louis Phaethon Beach and we look forward to welcome you back soon.

The hotel was outstanding , food excellent as my scales showed when home.

Mostly the entertainment group , the shows were professional , choreography so good , certainly west end stars in the making

Only negatives was no beach, as it's hotel name indicates,

I would think it gets really busy when the water park at the hotel is open , but plenty of room for everyone.

People were asked not to save sun beds but this still happened the whole week.

Room Tip: Sea view without a doubt , top floor, as no noise from rooms above
