With these travel reviews I always find it difficult to understand where the person booking has come from ie which walk of life, therefore I think background information should be mandatory to see if it fits your lifestyle/choices.
So here goes, we are 39 and 25 happily married with a bun in the oven, we have  been to quite a few amazing places across the world and have a preference for the finer things in life. Our perfect holiday is either baros in the Maldives or the cotton house in mustique (check these out and you will get a better picture of what we like).

Ground work done! On with the review!

The Pioneer hotel (we didn't realise) is part of a group of hotels all situated on the same strip, (if you haven't been to paphos there is a lovely walk on the front along a stone flag path by the sea and the hotels are all situated off this) so your choice is which type of hotel do you prefer? whether it's 5 star, family or adult the choices are there with the Constantinou hotels. The fact is though that the 4 star pioneer is aspiring to be  5 star just like  its sister hotel next door so their is very little difference between them apart from the service although this could be more down to how busy the hotel is compared to the 5 star neighbour.

The hotel itself has just been refurbished so as you would expect is nice and clean and we could see no reason to upgrade from our std sea/pool view room. Which we quite often do when we are little bit unsatisfied with our room choice.(spoilt I know! but true!)  At the pioneer be careful with your room choice (as with all the hotels on this strip), it is sea view or road, essentially!
We  arrived 2 days after the refurb and the hotel was empty so as you would expect, to suit, the service was excellent. As the days progressed we noticed an influx of new staff so the service standards dropped for a few days but we could see the potential as they learnt the ropes.
Lambros the hotel manager introduced himself to us and we have to say his ethics and personality are showing through within the hotel and it's staff which gives you the feeling you are in a much smaller boutique hotel but without the cost!! A really nice touch as we left Lambros came outside and waved us off!

Food - yes please! I defy anyone to be unable to find food they like its an impossibility and deserving a special mention is the Chinese chef whose rice is to die for! The setting for the lunchtime dining is beautiful, dining on a decked area with water all around is fantastic.

All in all this hotel gives you everything you need from a holiday at a good price.

If we didn't have a bun in the oven we would return but the hotel is (quite rightly so) adult only.

We wish Lambros and his team of staff all the best for the summer and thank you for an enjoyable visit

We loved the Pioneer. Everyone we met was back, revisiting this hotel. The staff we friendly and fun and they really made that extra effort. Gloria is superb she was always on hand to help you out.

The fact that this hotel is adults only made our trip. No screaming kids about!!!

The habour was about a 30-40 minute walk away. Myself and my wife decided to walk there one day along the beach which was lovely.

The rooms were looking a bit dated and could use a referb.

The food was great always a good variation on offer. All the differen bars offered happy hours, so you just work your way round them all.

Theres a nice local newpaper shop about 5 minute walk away which is handy for water and any other groceries.

We would definately stay here again!

We had a great holiday in June 11. For us the location was ideal it was quiet but close enough to the local bars/restaurants. The harbour is about a 30-40min walk which was fine for us and we enjoyed this, however there is a bus that goes straight from the front of the hotel to either the manmade beach, harbour or the market.
The hotel was very clean and the pool area was lovely. We were on a half board basis and the breakfast was lovely and lots of variety. Although we were half board we only ate evening meal twice as it was a buffet and we prefer to go out to restaurants. The buffet was standard for choice but nice enough. We ate on the Cyrus night also when we dined outside around the pool and it was more like a bbq - this was lovely.
During the day the pool area was chill out - other than the loud entertainment reps trying to get you to join in activities - this was a little annoying as we just wanted to be left alone, however they did get the picture after a few days. The beach area is also nice as well.
The rooms were big enough and very clean and we had a nice balcony area, athough the view wasnt great but this didnt bother us, however next time i would upgrade to a pool view.
Overall a great holiday, location and i would come back. In fact we recommended it to my parents who booked a few months later.

Room Tip: Ask or upgrade to a pool view room

I stayed in here for 2 weeks in August (2011) with my parents, 2 sisters, brother in law and my boyfriend and we all really enjoyed this hotel. I would of loved to of stayed longer. We stayed in sea view rooms and they were wonderful. Excellent service and the staff are really friendly. Really enjoyed happy hour every day, the cocktails were delicious. The air conditioner in the room is amazing. The breakfast is lovely but the evening food at the hotel is a bit repetitive at times, I did enjoy the nights where you eat outside and get some live entertainment though. The pool is not very deep but it's still nice and the smaller pool is great for sitting and reading your book in the sun. I also loved the fact that it was a adults only hotel, no children to spoil your stay. Just a nice peaceful pool area without the fuss (although I did have to get up early to grab a sun bed).
We've all said we'd stay here again (and I look forward to seeing what the refurbishment is like after 2012)

As for the area, I've stayed in Paphos a few times and this hotel is in a great location for the water park and it's quite a lengthy but nice stroll to the harbour. The bus is a life saver if you've had a big meal or a few too many drinks on the night time and it's good during the day too, if you're too hot to walk in the sun or want to get something from a shop quickly, it's cheap too (and air conditioned).

Yes from my vist to the Athena Beach in May I'm now back at the Pioneer, still a great place to stay, although they say it will close for 3 months and the staff seemed a little on edge as to what would happen. If they lose Victor and a few others which it seems they will, it may all go horribly wrong!
But that aside went with, obviously my with her brother and his wife and it was just great, weather fantastic, food great, entertainment still a little hit and miss. Not really that well organised, never seem to know what or who your going to get ( very different from the Athena). I will probably go to the Athen agian in early June next year, but also want to fit in the SOL Calagordana ( not sure I spelt that right) in Menorca.

Room Tip: Did not go for sea view this time, not sure if I should have or wether it's worth the extra?

I stayed for one week in June, superior room with sea view. It was a walk to the elevators, but the view was worth it. Roomsize was average, but comfortable (good bed) and the airconditioning excellent. Housekeeping keeps everything very clean, plenty of towels at all times. The pool is nice, but people tend to "reserve" poolbeds at 6am! Food is plentyfull and good, service was excellent and friendly, be it reception, pool bar, restaurant or hotel shop. Public transportation at 5min from the hotel.

We have stayed in this hotel now eight times in the last six years and thought it was about time I contributed a review. As you will gather we have always enjoyed our visits here. It is difficult to add to what has already been said about the Pioneer, which in my opinion is generally accurate overall. Sure it is mainly occupied by the older generation but why would anybody want to go to any other adults only hotel which cannot offer the value as it provides. We have always found it clean and hospitable with generally excellent staff especially in the main and regina restaurant. The reception staff can be somewhat indifferent. The hotel is around some 25 years old and in a condition commensurate with its age, although it is always kept imaculately clean in all areas. The bedrooms are very comfortable, however, the ones we occupied this time where not the best being on the ground floor over the boliers which seemed to run constantly, we benefitted from a side sea view but would have preferred rooms with a mountain view which we had booked. The hotel is to undergo a six month upgrade next month, I just hope they dont ruin the atmosphere, hospitally and general friendship it delivers and above all dont price it out of the market. We hope to return again one day.
