This was our first visit to Paphos and to the Pioneer Beach Hotel. This is a lovely hotel and all members of staff, without exception, were friendly, efficient and helpful.
The room, although very clean and comfortable, lacked the "wow" factor and the balcony was very small with only a partial sea view. Apparently all standard rooms have only a partial sea view so be aware of this when requesting a sea view. Also, make sure your room isn't near the kitchen ventilator, as was our first one, or you won't get a decent night's sleep because of the noise. Fortunately, we were able to change rooms with little trouble, such was the efficiency and kindness of the staff.
Food was very good with numerous choices and all beautifully presented. We were on the "all inclusive" tariff which was excellent value and we were given the choice of eating at the a la carte restaurant on 2 nights. We did this for 1 night only as we were disappointed with the experience and returned to the main restaurant for the rest of our meals.
The pool area is very nice and beautifully clean. There are enough sun loungers for everyone but the "lounger mentality" is alive and kicking here with far too many people reserving their loungers with towels etc. and then wandering off to breakfast or back to bed! There should be pool attendants appointed to stop this ridiculous activity!
Attention all cat lovers! There are a few little cats wandering around the hotel grounds and the hotel staff are happy for you to feed them. In fact, there is a notice asking hotel guests to buy food from the supermarket for the cats as the staff only feed them during the Winter months, (sad really, when you think how much food is wasted here) but the notice is hidden behind sun loungers near the pool shower so I didn't see it until our last day. This didn't stop me feeding the cats, though, much to the delight of some guests and the disgust of others. I befriended the hotel cat, Susannah. She is a darling and is blind in one eye and deaf. She has lived at the hotel for 14 years and has been able to fend for herself all this time but now she is too old and I found it rather upsetting to see her amble slowly over to the outside tables looking up hopefully as people were eating. She never made a nuisance of herself and simply wandered away when she realised that she wasn't going to be lucky. So please, if you plan to visit this lovely hotel, keep a look out for darling Susannah and show her some kindness. The hotel manager has reassured me that Susannah is "one of the family."
Enjoy your holiday. This is a lovely place and we hope to return here in the not too distant future.

Room Tip: As far as we could tell there is little difference between the standard rooms and the superior rooms, possibly the superior have a full on sea view and larger balcony. I'm not really sure. Our room overlooked the land beside the church as well as the sea and was very quiet.

We've just returned from a week at the Pioneer Beach and found the hotel to be very good.
The welcome on arrival was warm and the hotel and rooms were of a high standard, the hotel pool was a little small but even though the hotel was full there appeared to be plenty of room for everyone. For some reason guests were getting up at 5:30 to reserve a sunbed of their choice and then not using the bed until late morning, we feel the hotel should discourage this by removing towels from beds that that have been placed before eight as this habit was infectious.
In general the food was of a very high standard with plenty of choice however the cost was about double of what you'd expect to pay in the town, I would suggest hiring a car unless you intend staying around the hotel and then I would recommend going all inclusive. The staff were excellent very friendly very well trained and immaculately turned out
The hotel doesn't have a cash point but will exchange money into euros for you, and at a good rate too, the nearest ATM was towards town about a 20 minute walk. the main tourist area, the harbour, is a good 40 minute walk away but a 611 bus takes you right there for 1.50 euro.
Overall the hotel was very good however they don't really have a beach to speak of even though it's called the beach hotel . The Thomson staff were the best we'd encountered during all our previous trips they were very professional pushing important information in a light natured manner.

Room Tip: Rooms on the "sea" side don't have the noise of the bus dropping off and picking up but do have the "entertainment" noise

Stayed here for 7 nights as a couple in May 2014 just to unwind and relax. Yes it was very relaxing. We were made to feel very welcome on arrival, like others felt the bell boy was waiting to be tipped. Room was small and basic for a superior room (we did have a basic room for a few hours before departure and we were so glad we went for the superior as the basic rooms were even smaller) but the view was amazing we were lucky enough to be able to see the sunrise and set from our balcony. Food and drink was fantastic, branded alcoholic drinks, waiter service and a choice of restaurants including unlimited a la carte on a black card. Tea and coffee making facilities in room were poor. Bed was very comfortable. Room was carpeted. Staff were very helpful and friendly which made up for the poor service we received from the rep who we felt didn't have time for us and did not advise us on what we were entitled to during our stay on our black card and also talked us into purchasing v.i.p airport lounge tickets on our departure that were a total waste of money costing us £35 per person for some dried up sandwiches, help yourself style bar that was dirty and rowdy not the perfect end to your holiday including a hot meal in relaxing surroundings as we were told. We did complain about this to Thomson on our return but did not achieve anything. The black card I have mentioned is instead of a wrist band as we were all inclusive this did cause a little confusion for some of the staff so just be aware of what you sign for when using this card as we were billed for someone else's drinks. The hotel and pool areas are very clean. The beach and sea was rocky you need wet shoes to go into the sea but once you are in it is calm and relaxing. The entertainment is poor there is no atmosphere. Over all this is a quiet place perfect for a peaceful holiday could become boring if we had of stayed any longer would highly recommend the spa.

Room Tip: Go for a superior room it is worth the extra

Stayed at the hotel last week, I'm giving you a number of bulletin points good and bad. This was average in comparisons to the hotels I have stayed in before and I was glad I just went for bed and breakfast.

Negatives
- lots of older retired people
- not much going on the evening at the hotel for younger couples
- rush for sun beds in key areas every morning
- 1 ok pool
- not really a beach
- sea view room wasn't worth it with a very small balcony, given a side sea view
- food average

Positives
- complimentary wine and fruit in room
- nice staff
- good bus services all day and night to the harbour
- clean nice rooms
- iron/hair dryer/ dressing gown and slippers provided & toiletries changed everyday
- beach towels provided daily

Didn't book any trips with the reps as they usually take up to 30% and it's the same old same old. Cheaper to book at the harbour....

If you want a really nice fusion dinner- must do the Guru up the road with amazing cocktails.

Best trip and absolute must do - Paphos Segway experience it's the number 1 on trip advisor . Book Thursday late afternoon and see some spectacular things. Do not book with rep as they were trying to sell me the big group tour with some other company and these guys where happy to take just me & the mrs , we were not rushed and spoilt rotten.

Upgrade to VIP lounge at airport, well worth it as it was like a sauna and crammed.

Would I stay at that hotel again ... No but it's all down to your budget and I can see why lots of people would go back because of the staff but I have stayed in so much better. So it's totally Average!

Stayed: June 2014
