“Not 5 star”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 November 2012 via mobile

A friendly hotel but well below levels expected of a 5 star hotel. Food is very canteen like for those on full board and entertainment is limited. Pool area is nice, beach is small and "natural" so limited access

Stayed at the Venus Beach 2 years ago. Went back in September 2012 and we were very disappointed, it is not a luxury hotel, and has definitely seen better days. If you wish to stay in a 5 Star hotel then avoid the Venus Beach.

The hotel staff are very nice, and it is mainly kept clean but in some places is in need of refurbishment. Stayed on a B&B basis 2 years ago and the standard of food was good. This year we were half board and found the standard of food has dropped considerably. In particular, some of the evening meals were so terrible we ate out on quite a few occasions.

Although the outdoor pool area looks very nice, some of the sunbeds especially going down towards the sea are too grotty to even lay on. The pool toilets are in need of some renovation and are not up to the standard expected of a 5 star hotel. I believe the only way this hotel is hanging onto its 5 star status is because of the gym attracting a lot of outside users as members.

This hotel would be lucky to scrape a two star, very worn building, dated rooms, easy jet needs to be held to account for describing this as luxury, food beyond poor! Staff were friendly enough, carpets were worn and stained, our balcony collapsed

I agree with other travellers who say that the hotel decor looks a bit tired, however, that is the only critisism I could make. Although the room decor could be doing with some modernising, the rooms are comfortable and spotlessly clean, with plenty of storage space for all of your belongings and a safe for valuables. The mini bar is reasonable priced as is everything else you may want to purchase in the hotel. The bathroom is spotlessly clean although the shower has a shower curtain and my preference is for a glass screen, but the curtain again has no marks and was perfectly acceptable. We stayed on a B&B basis, but chose to eat in the hotel a few night and the food was varied, plentiful and well made and we were pleasantly surprised when we paid the bill, at the end of our holiday, to see how cheap it had been. The staff, especially at the front desk were wonderful. Overall this hotel was fabulous value for money and indeed five star in many ways, I prefer to look at the big picture and not just that the bedroom furniture could have been more modern. If you like to be comfortable and not to have to take out a second mortgage to buy a round of drinks, then this is your hotel, I've already booked up to go back again!

We arrived at the Venus Beach hotel in Paphos late in the evening about 1100pm so did not really feel like checking the hotel room at the time. In the morning after a nights sleep it was obvious that this hotel had seen better days and in no way did it deserve its 5 star rating! The furniture was old and tired especially the bed and mattress which was frayed around the edges, the bathroom was basically uninviting also very old and the bath was slippery with no supplied mats. This hotel has seen better days and needs an extensive refurbishment to justify a 5 star rating. The staff were generally helpful although pretty low key sypmtomatic of operating on a low budget although the reception area was modern and inviting. We were on a half board basis and found the food adequate and in good supply provided you were in to dinner and breakfast fairly early as the hotel was full of Eastern europeans quite a lot from Russia who seemed on a mission to clear the entire output of the kitchen and were not very friendly. The pool area was good especially the availability of sunbeds as there were always plenty around, there were paths leading down to the sea and sandy beach and on this note the tide here is quite dangerous and has a strong rip tide so we did not venture in too far, but OK for strong swimmers. We had a fairly pleasant week in Paphos the weather was hot every day (Sep 2012). Our overall impression of this hotel would certainly not exceed 3 star rating given there are real 5 star hotels that deserve the rating in Paphos itself. We were surprised to see so many Eastern europeans in Cyprus as on our last visit some years ago there was no evidence of this and found this a little overwhelming. We would not return to this hotel as we feel they mis-describe the hotel as 5 star and it was not as good as that.

Room Tip: Do not arrive too late because if you are not happy with the room the night staff cannot help you to...

Just returned from a week's oliday in this hotel, my only criticism is the evening meal choice, all too often it was chicken wings or thighs, lamb or pork chops. we arrived at 9pm most eveningsthe majority of dishes including the veg was cold. I used to make do with a bowl of soup and bread roll, followed by some cheese off the sweet counter with a bit of salad.
On a positive note, the rooms were cleaned and beds made everyday, the staff were perfect and nothing was too much trouble for them. The all inclusive drinks at the bars all day were really good, only one choice of "free" beer (Keo) which I acquired he taste for. the local wines and spirits were excellent however. we went with Jet2 but on the return flight my wife noticed that this hotel is no longer listed in their latest brochure......too many complaints perhaps...??

Room Tip: If you get an even number you have a sea view, odd number, sorry you are looking inwards perhaps tow...

My wife and I returned on the 18th after spending 7 nights at the Venus Beach. This hotel at best is 3* the rooms are in real need of a major upgrade and the food was awful, every day there was chicken for either lunch or dinner. We complained but the reception staff said this hotel differs from other 5* hotels because it is cheaper. When we pointed out 5* was a standard they refused to accept this. I thought we had experienced all the bad things this hotel could offer until we went for a swim in the indoor pool and found both live and dead beetles floating in the water. There was no filtration and a green film had formed between the top of the pool and the water line. The changing rooms and shower in partuclar were absolutley disgusting. We have taken photographs which we will show to the travel agent we booked this thorugh and we will be seeking compensation. The many guests we talked to throughout our stay had similar experineces and are like us, going to report them to their travel agents.
