Although this was sold to me as a hotel , it is in fact an aparthotel. This in itself is not a critisism of the Hotel, but a reflection of the Tour Operator's artistic licence in it's description of the Hotel. I booked with Direct Line Holidays- never again! The hotel was decribed as 4star, i discovered it was only 3star, and it wasn't a hotel in the true sense of the word. Direct Line exp[laine this away by saying the star rating was " guest ratings". In 35 years in the holiday business I have never heard of a tour operator using this con in it's description to "hype" up a hotel. We were booked into a basic room, but after reading the trip advisor reviews, I upgraded to a superior room( an extra £100! of course). The holiday for one week came to £900 for the two of us, half board, flying from Bristol, with EasyJet, (you know- the "cheap, no-frills airline!") This, I fund out was about £300 too much. Other hotels in the area, some on the beach, are much cheaper. On arrival we were packed into a mini-bus and arrived at the hotel at 9pm. The reception was very friendly and efficent. We had a pool facing apartment which was scrupulously clean The restraurant, stayed open for us as rthe flight was late arriving, which I found very good. Over the week, the food was excellent, if a little too european. I was a little disappointed to fing very few Cypriot dishes, but beyond that, it was always beautifully cooked and presented.
The location of the hotel was a disappointment too. Set in a side street off Bar street, aabout half a mile back from the seafront, there are no such things as Sea View, or Mountain view, only back of hotel views! At the back of the Hotel were two Soveit Style accomodation blocks, calleed, encouragingly,Block, 1, and Block 2, and pretty doudy too. That said the hotel/bar staff were very good, friendly, and efficient.. The main bus route was very close. I would think that in the High season the noise from surrounding night clubs and all night bars is horrendous, unless you like that sort of thing!
Cyprus itself was great. The weather was superb, and drinks were around the same as the UK. We had a great weeek despite the shortcomings. Were I to go self-catering next time I would consider booking an apartment independantly, and arranging flights myself
I would reccomend this Hotel if you dont mind location, and like night-life,& late-night boozing on your doorstep. Oh, and youl have to like cats, the feral strays are everywhere!
