“Lovely Hotel”
Reviewed 19 July 2008

We have recently returned from spending a week in the Agapinor.
The hotel was very clean and the staff very friendly and helpful.
We stayed on a bed and breakfast, and the breakfasts were
perfectly adequate - cereals, rolls, toast, yoghurt, fruit and some
choice of hot.
We had a sea view room on the 3rd floor which we were really pleased about. The room was cleaned and bed linen/towels changed regularly. The pool was lovely and the whole area kept very clean and tidy. We cannot fault the hotel itself, and feel that sometimes people just expect too much.
The hotel was a good walk from the harbour area where all the restaurants and nightlife was, but despite the heat, we managed to walk down and back nearly every night. Taxis can be expensive as we found on the one night we used one to get back to the hotel.
Buses during the day were frequent and cheap.
If you want a good base to explore Paphos, we would recommend this hotel. It is in a quiet area, but this is a preference for me.
At the end of the day, you get what you pay for and we found this to be excellent value for money.

Well like the others, after reading some of the reviews on here about this hotel we were slightly worried, however when we arrived on the Wednesday at 5pm we were very pleasantly surprised!

The room we stayed in was if a bit basic, clean and had all the required items to enjoy your stay. Although it didn’t have any tea/coffee making facilities, it did have a hair-drier!
The room was made-up everyday.

We upgraded our room (for an extra £14) to have a sea view, and this also overlooks the pool (We would advise that you did too, otherwise you have a view over the main road).
The room was on the 1st floor, which is over the main function room, so on the nights when there was entertainment (Friday night was the DJ, and Sunday was a singer), if you retired to your room early you could still hear the music from below, so it might be wise if you like your early nights to stay on the second or third floor, which wouldn’t be a problem as there is a lift to all floors.

The pool area had plenty of sun-loungers, and the pools themselves were clean, but there is no lifeguard on duty.

The hotel seems to cater more for the older ‘holiday-maker’, so if you prefer a holiday without those pesky children running and screaming about this might be a good option.

Breakfast (7am until 9:30am) was the usual continental affair with a selection of cereals, bread and toast making facilities, fruit, cold meats, cheese, and beans, sausages and egg, as well as hot and cold drinks.

Evening meals (7pm until 10pm) had a good and varied selection of foods either hot cooked meats, vegetables, potatoes and rice and also salads, and then plenty of desserts.
Drinks as usual were at an extra cost, but reasonably priced.

The staff were always very courteous and helpful.

The hotel is located in Old Pafos town which is 3 kilometres (approx. 2 miles) from the Harbour, so its either a good 40 minute walk or a quick hop on the bus (which operate every 20 mins from 7am until 7pm during the summer at a cost of 1.20 euros).

The main shopping area and market in the Old Town are out of the main door and turn left and round past the Observation point on the main road – a 10 minutes walk.
However, as the hotel is situated within the main town centre, there are no evening entertainment establishments so you would need to go down to the harbour for your usual touristy themed pubs and ear-banging music fixes.

Overall we think that the Agapinor Hotel was a most excellent and enjoyable stay and I would recommend it for those who like to savor the quieter side of Cyprus, or use it as a base to explore.

Cyrpus is a very nice place to visit, with lots to see and do, and the weather during our stay was excellent - 30 degrees C and very sunny.

Buses are only available between Pafos Old town and the harbour (1.20 euros) and then the harbour to Coral Bay (1.20 euros), so if you want to explore the island then you will either need to book the tours either with your tour rep or the various excursion companies around OR hire a car and do it yourself (they drive on the left so us Brits are at home here).

During our stay we visited the Roman ruins at the Harbour (excellent mosaics), and also the Tomb-of-the-Kings (burial chambers carved into the limestone), we went on an excursion to the Troodos mountains and Kykkos Monastery, the bone shaking Akamas Jeep Safari, and a visit to the capital, Nicosia.

On the Sunday we booked via Hotel reception the free transfer coach to visit Pafos Bird and Animal park – although not a large place, and quite pricey for what it is (15 euros) it filled up an afternoon and the Parrot show there was quite amusing.

The hotel is very nice, very clean.
The staff know nothing about nothing and the food is the worst i have ever experenced. Hygiene in the restuarant is well below average. we went half board and used the restuarant three times. ants, flies etc walking on the food the fruit tray was filthy!! infact it was an old mirror and the frame was all cracked and ingrained with muk.
By all means stay at the hotel but take my advice and DO NOT book half board.
and if you go with low cost travel dont expect the rep to help you at all. My Sister had to return to uk in an emergency and even the emergency number the rep gave her was engaged constantly which meant in all her upset my sister was left to get on with it.
Please dont assume that i am a snob by this review as i am not just saying it as it was.
also be prepared to pay lots for taxi's as its out of the way of everything.
still had a good holiday and liked the hotel. they need to sort their food out tho.

I stayed in the Agapinor for one week with family (8). The hotel is situated near the local market and shops (marks and spencer, mothercare, other clothes stores). It is a good 30 minute walk from bar street and the harbour so we mainly took taxi's which can cost. We paid 20 euro for 8 seaters and 7/8 euro if we used 2 taxi's. So, if you dont like to walk you are looking at 16 euro a night which adds up!!

The hotel's guests were mainly over 60 so i wouldnt suggest this for young couples or family's unless your looking for a quiet holi. The food in the hotel was not good.... It does not cater for children at all. We stayed half board and didnt make breakfast once. We were told however that we didnt miss anything. There is a bar next door called spirit which did nice food so we ended up eating there in the mornings. Breakfast was served 7am - 9.30am too early if you want to go out on the evenings. The only nice part of the evening meal was the soup. We ate out every night after the second meal there. I would recommend Fat Mamma's on Tomb of the Kings road great night mexicans and american food with entertainment from the waiters. Or there is O'neils (Irish bar) opposite Fat Mammas that do nice food.

The rooms were a little dated but clean and maids came everyday to make beds and tidy. Towels are supposed to be changed twice a week but if you leave them on balcony they dont change them. TV, air cond, hairdryer, telephone all in room at no extra charge. We stayed on the second floor facing the main road which wasnt too bad apart from you dont get the nice pool/sea view. All staff were friendly at the hotel just not to helpful. We didnt find out till the second last day that you could switch your evening meal to lunch. This would of saved us a fortune as we normally ordered lunch during the day and missed the evening meal to go out and eat.

All in all the holiday was amazing, paphos was lovely a great place for couples, familys and friends! I would stay in the agapinor again but not half board. If i could i would find something nearer the main strip or on tomb of the kings road which would save alot of money on taxis.
