“Great for families not so sure for couples.”
Reviewed 3 October 2013

Stayed here for a week at the end of September on an all inclusive basis. The resort is split into 2 main parts the older one which is the Aegan village and the newer part which is the fishing village. We stayed in the fishing village. Arrival went very well and we were in our room within 10 minutes. The room we had contained a large living room with couch which was also a pull out bed, coffee table, dining table and small kitchen with cooker, fridge and microwave , it also had a tv and air conditioning, the bathroom was large and had a bath with shower, bedroom again was a good size with its own tv and air conditioning unit, the large balcony with a couple of sunbeds and table and chairs was off the bedroom. The room was cleaned everyday and fresh towels provided, the resort is large with 1 very large pool, 2 smaller pools and a kids themed pool area. Restaurant was very large and there was no problems finding a table, food was very good with a decent choice, you also had 3 vouchers fir nearby restaurants, 2 free and the italian you had 20 euro voucher for. There is entertainment of an evening and plenty to keep the kids busy, 4 reps from First Choice based on site. There are a couple of adult only areas, part of the main pool and the bar next to the pool, which opens of an evening, but the primary function of this resort is aimed at families. The resort is located inland so you have to cross over the road and go behind the other hotels to get near the beach (which is not very good) and there is a big splash park about 5 minutes bus trip down the road down. There is a bus stop just across the road from the resort and the buses will get you into Paphos in about 15 minutes an all day ticket costs 5 Euros. Overall the resort is spotless, the staff are excellent and very nice to deal with, the restaurant staff work very hard, to ensure that your table is cleared of dishes as soon as you have finished with them.

Issues - If you are given a room near the main restaurant you will be bothered by the noise until the entertainment stops which varies, the room service has no set time, so one day it will be done by 10am, the next it will be 3pm, this is more inconvenient than anything, the food is very good, but don't expect lots of local dishes, it is quite british in taste, they also struggle to keep some of the food warm, a couple of times the potatoes I selected were almost cold.
Overall would I go back, not as a couple, but if I had Children I would not hesitate as there was so much for them to do.

Room Tip: Rooms near the restaurant are quiet during the day but noisy at night, rooms around the pool will be...

This was our 17th visit to the Aliathon and once again, we had a brilliant holiday. Myself & hubby always stay here, we love it. The Management and all the staff are very friendly, nothing is ever too much trouble. You don't even have to go far for some really fab places to eat, we go self-catering and prefer to eat in what are now our favourite restaurants.
The apartments are excellent, we stay in the Aegean side, this is the "older" part of the Aliathon.
Although we don't have kids, we have seen the Aliathon grow into a very family orientated Holiday Village. From what we have seen, the First Choice staff are great with kids and adults alike.
We have no complaints whatsoever and will continue to return for as long as we are able to do so.

Just returned from holiday at the Aliathon Holiday Village in Cyprus and it was fantastic. All the positive comments on Trip Advisor are accurate.

STAFF
All staff are friendly, especially those in the restaurants and reception and are extremely efficient. The First Choice reps are helpful and knowledgable. The entertainment team and daytime kids team are hard working. Special thanks to Hannah, Lois and Lee from Entertainment and Carlos who seemed to serve in every bar in the complex!

RESTAURANTS
The main restaurant has a fantastic range of lovely food, is very clean and beautifully laid out. Waiters and waitresses buzz around frantically but unobtrusively. The omelette lady does a great job at breakfast and there are special theme nights. We didn't really have a need to eat evening meals outside of the main restaurant but did utilise the Mexican one evening which was very good with friendly staff. One thing to note here for little ones going for the fish fingers - they are more like fish cakes which our youngest didn't like too much.
Day time snack bars again give a good but more limited choice and there are barbecues laid on as well.

POOLS
The main horse shoe shaped pool is actually 2 pools, with the bridge separating the adult only and family sections. They are clean and well maintained with variations of depth for different ages and abilities. The splash pool is great for the younger ones and the lagoon pool and pool just outside reception are quieter. The general build quality of the entire complex is very high quality and this extends to the pool area where the decorative path slabs are pretty much non slip. Compared to other places we've stayed at anyway!
Beware of the sun beds by the main pool! They are "posher" than in many places we've stayed previously but they do tip up if you sit on the bottom edge of them. One older gentleman came quite a cropper when this happened to him.
Talking of sun beds, there were loads of them and they were readily available as we're parasols.

BARS
The poolside bars are well stocked with local and more well known named brands. Ice cream is also available from these and credit to the Aliathon that this is not just cheap stuff, it is lovely quality ice cream.
The bar by the main pool, which is in the base of the lighthouse, is easily accessed by anyone using the pool or the snack bar.

ROOMS
We had a standard room in the Agean Village. This was about 2 mins walk to the main pool and about 1min from reception, so not exactly separated from the Fishing Village like we thought it might be.
The room was large and very clean. Some reviews have described these rooms as "aged" but I'd describe it more as rustic. Two air con units worked well so no issues there.

KIDS CLUB
Because our little ins were split between super stars club and mega stars club, being 8 and 9, they didn't use the full range of activities on offer, but did have a go on the high wire frame and some of the family activities. They also had a go at scuba diving via CyDive who are by the pool most days and had a 40 minute session at their own pool in the harbour which in hindsight seemed a little expensive at 40 euros each.
The kids clubs reps laid on loads to do from nursery rhyme walks through to raft building so did a great job all round.

EVENING ENTERTAINMENT
The I-5-live team work hard and carry out quizzes, bingo, plays, dance routines and general fun stuff. It can be a bit samey but considering the turn over of guests, the age ranges catered for and other evening choices (such as close by bars, restaurants and harbour) you can't go wrong.
The one thing that lets the evening entertainment down (no fault of the staff) is that the sound acoustics echo due to the roof so if you want to hear more clearly what they are saying, go nearer to the stage.

GENERAL
The complex is clean and well laid out with quality good construction throughout. It really is like a small village with pastel shaded apartments and buildings. There is a large well equipped gym and lovely looking spa with shops and external bars / restaurants just a minute walk away.

I have already recommended the Aliathon to a work colleague looking to go to Cyprus next year. Thanks to all involved at the Aliathon for making our holiday special, including leaving a card and bottle of wine in our room to celebrate our anniversary. It is these types of touches along with the pride and hard work from all the staff that make it so memorable.

Nick, Donna, Annie and Paige.
P.S. long live the chocolataaay

We stayed for 2 weeks from 14 September. On coming out of the airport we were told we had a taxi transfer which we hadn't expected (or paid for) which was a surprise. We were given an envelope with our check in details for the hotel and asked to fill it in on journey to the Holiday Village - however in a dark taxi was not able to do so. We were met at hotel by Jenn, who asked us if we had completed our check in forms - when we told her we hadn't she said she had to deal with other people checking in so were just left to get on with it - thought the First Choice welcome would be better, quite clearly she couldn't be bothered. We encountered the same rep on a night out later in holiday and even socially she is quite rude (may I add also she joined our company not the other way around as I know reps must get hounded by guests but that was not the case here). Thankfully every other member of hotel staff, First Choice staff, kids reps, etc were all very friendly and helpful. Special mention to Phoebe, Olly, Alex, Rich, Richard, DJ Scotty etc. They all work so hard and are a credit to the company.
We stayed in a Deluxe Apartment in the Fishing Village which was lovely. We had emailed the hotel before arrival and asked for a pool view first floor and they replied quickly saying they would do what they could but could not guarantee it - however we were delighted they did meet our requests. The apartment is big, clean and although other reviews say they are basic, I don't see what else you would need when you are on holiday. It is the First HV we have stayed at that have self catering facilities when you are all inclusive which gave us the option to do some lunches for my son in the room later in in the holiday when he fancied something basic like Heinz Spaghetti & Beans or Spag Bog which you would buy from the supermarket outside the hotel. The ladies who came in to clean the rooms were friendly and thorough.
The pools were lovely and clean - we loved the Splash pool as you could sit on your sunbed watching your child playing happily and safely. The main activity pool is great too as it starts of shallow and very gradually gets deeper so again under supervision you are quite happy your child is playing safely. There is also an adult pool which we tried once when our son was in Kids Group and it was so quiet and peaceful it was like being in a different hotel!
My son loved the Kids Group and didn't look back when we dropped him off so it shows the children enjoy it and are happy there. You feel safe leaving them there too, as the staff are very professional and never let you anywhere near going in to the room itself - they meet you at the door and let your child in, you sign them in and they ask where you will be during the session in case you are needed. You then have to sign them out and they bring your child out to you. Very secure and nice to go and relax for 2 hours knowing they are safe and happy. Thanks to all the Kids Group staff.
The choice and standard in the main buffet restaurant was fab. The staff in there too were great and work very hard. Loved the Greek nights on a Saturday. We also took advantage of your 2 visits per week to the speciality restaurants (Greek and Mexican) - both were lovely and it is nice to get waited on for a change!
Would recommend the football academy and the swimming lessons - although my lad was more busy chatting he enjoyed them and Phoebe, Alex and Olly are great with the kids! Jamie loved them!
The night times are the only very small thing that let this holiday down. The entertainment staff work so hard and they are all very talented but it would be nice if there was an alternative to I5Live, bingo etc - saying that we watched some great nights such as 80's rock, acoustic guitar sets etc but was disappointed the hotel put live music on in adults only bar so only the other half could go whilst I baby sat. Another hint for Hotel - please can you put slush machine on before I5Live starts so parents don't get mithered for an hour or so of I5Live wanting a slush that aren't ready! ha ha - but if that is all I can moan about - what a great holiday. (When we first arrived slushes were 1.50E but after two days they were free which was great as my son is an addict! would definitely love to come back and would recommend it for families wanting a lovely hotel where kids and parents will enjoy themselves.

Room Tip: Lovely Lighthouse view - with first floor sunny balcony!

We enjoyed our stay at the Aliathon. Could not fault the food we would strongly recommend you visit Mare E Monti Italian restaurant just outside the village part of the complex .The rooms were clean throughout our stay, beds uncomfortable and twin beds not double which was disappointing but staff friendly. The only problem was the entertainment was very limited not having much variety and the sound in the main show area was terrible. Also the all inclusive alcohol was cheap and im sure watered down.I would advise you visit Coral Bay Beach only a bus ride from the beautiful harbour and a cheap bus ride.I have to say ideal if you have children and please if your at cat lover feed them why you are there ... ooh nearly forgot the spa area felt unclean and in need of a revamp

Room Tip: Fishing village away from pool area

Again a bit of a late post, but we need to share what a fantastic holiday we all had. Myself my husband to be and our 3 kids aged 15, 9 and 4 stayed at the aliathon between the 1st and 15th September. Our first First Choice hol and was not dissappointed. We arrived and having had our checking in given us on the transfer we were quickly taken to our room but a golf buggy. On arrival we found a bottle of champayne a fruit basket and crackers. All our holiday details we ready for us and letters from the wedding organiser detailing plans. The room was fab overlooking the adult pool and can only describe the views as broucher perfect. From the second we arrived the staff were amazing most notably Euguene. My hubby gad a birthday there in which the hotel left us an amazing cake and cards from themselves. And just when you think youve been treated like royalty enough we got married and felt like a celebrity. We married at Peyia town hall which we couldnt fault. We arrived back to room to find flower petals in the bed and wedding cards rrom the hotel and wedding team. We both cant wait to come back.
p.s only negatives..... more lifeguards needed and hostile germans at the beach opposite

We travelled during the 6 week school holidays arriving on 28 July, we had paid extra before arriving to ensure a room in the fishing village. We we late arriving due to a late departure, however check in was very good. We were given our room keys and luggage tags on arrival at the airport, once on board the transfer we were told that we would be the first drop. Once we arrived at the resort we were quickly processed through reception and then hopped on a golf buggy and taken to our room. We were indeed in the fishing village but on the very extremity of the resort and unfortunately our balcony area over looked the reps accommodation, looking out onto a washing line of dirty laundry was not the view that we hoped for during the holiday - or listening to their evening banter at the end of each night whilst we had a night cap :( . We immediately contacted reception who advised us to come down to reception at 9am the next day. We met Kelly (lovely lancashire rep) who was incredibly helpful, Georgie on reception advised us that she couldn't move us for 3 days (not great) but we decided that it wasn't going to spoil our hols. We were moved on the Wednesday to a room next to the pool in the fishing village which was fab, and in fairness to Georgie she did offer us another room in the other part of the resort. The hotel grounds are beautiful and the acitivites for the kids fab! We had pre booked the football academy & the stage academy in the UK, our son loved both but when you have paid 4K to go on hols I really feel that these should be included. The reps were great with the kids, archery, high ropes, kayaking, just too many activities to mention, the safety with the kids was great you had to sign your kids out when you went to collect them - fab. The food was great and we can all be quite picky eaters, there was never a day when there wasn't something that was great which is a real change for an all inclusive resort. We only ate out at the Mexican with our AI and that was a great experience they made a real fuss of us with Sombreros etc. The lighthouse snack bar was great for a lighter lunch and also a lovely shaded area to go for a drink during the heat of the day. Towels were provided by the hotel so save your luggage allowance and use the hotel towels. We always managed to get a sunbed even on the days when we were up later, although the usual annoying thing happened with towels on beds from first thing in the morning that didn't get used until 4pm in the afternoon????
we did have a problem with ants in our room and after several phone calls they seemed to get the issue resolved & left us with our own can of any spray!
The only downside to the holiday was the evening entertainment, firstly the venue is indoors with arch ways to let in the air (non existent) they did have some mobile AC units which moved the warm air around the room but it was unbearable. There was also no flow to the evening entertainment, there is no doubt that the reps worked very hard but for the money paid for the holiday the entertainment was poor, the outside acts were even worse, and they had one woman 'Flown over all the way from the UK' who cleared the room in 5 mins and then brought her back the next night!! rubbish. We have stayed in cheaper last minute hotels and paid a fraction of what we paid for this holiday and had much better entertainment. Fist Choice you really need to work on this.
Overall a fantastic family restful holiday, best part of the day playing kwik cricket! Special mention to Lee & Richard Jones as they were simply the best reps there.

Dear 190748JoF,

Thank you for your great review about your holiday experience at the Aliathon Holiday Village and of course for choosing to stay with us for your summer holidays this year.

We are so happy to read that all of your family enjoyed their stay with us from the kid’s clubs activities to the food in pantheon restaurant and for overall rating your holiday fantastic!

Regarding your room change in resort, we try our upmost best to move any guests that feel they require something different to what that have been allocated however during the height of the season when we are fully booked it becomes very difficult to do this straight away and some times can take a day or so, so we are sorry that this wait in time caused you an inconvenience.
We are so glad that after you were moved you were happy in your new room allocated.

Concerning the entertainment in the evening we have brought this up in the management meeting and be assured it is in discussion for any improvements for next year.

Once again thank you for writing this review and we are so happy that you had a fantastic stay here with us. We hope to welcome your family back in the future for another great experience.
