Crown Resorts Horizon
Ranked #64 of 85 Hotels in Paphos
Reviewed 20 September 2009

my husband & I have just returned from a weeks stay in the crown horizon and had a lovely time there. Dont believe everything you read on the reviews posted ,before we went I read the reviews and was dreading what to expect! but i am pleased to say that we were pleasantly suprised it was a lovely clean hotel with very pleasant staff, the rooms were clean and very spacious the food was good and the service was excellent. I must say if you go there the All Inclusive option is a must as the price of the drinks were extortionate! 4.5 Euros for a pint of beer when it is about 2 Euros in the bars outside the hotel. The location of the hotel is great just a short walk to Coral Beach one way and lots of bars, shops & resturants the other. there is a bus stop just outside the hotel which will take you to paphos harbour for 1.5 Euros. The only thing which spoilt this trip for us was the awful flight on a First Choice Airline the leg room was absolutely ridiculous and the staff all looked miserable!

Just returned from this hotel and sadly I must agree with other reviews - its most definitely a 3 star. We paid for an all inclusive package as well as a superior room. The room was pleasant and had just been refurbished although the wardrobe doors wouldnt close due to the new carpet. The food varied from adequate to average and we ate out one night at a little Greek restaurant - theCorallo - excellent choice but it gets very busy so booking is recommended. The gym facilities were good. Plenty of sunbeds but thats only because the hotel wasnt full.
My biggest gripe here is the all inclusive deal (not). I find it incredible that you can have free soft drinks, beers, spirits all day but not bottled water! The rep told us that Cypriot tap water was safe to drink yet in their reference book it states that although its safe to drink they recommend you buy the bottled as the mineral content could cause upset tummies. I dont drink tap water at home and I certainly wasnt going to drink it in Cyprus. The price varied from 2.50 Euros at the start of the week to 3.73 euros mid week to the end. Also you cant have a bottle of wine with your meal only individual glasses which they poured from large plastic bottles at the back of the restaurant. They also charge for wine from the Keo brewery which is only in Limassol - is this isnt local I dont know what is?
All in all we had a nice relaxing break in the sun but this hotel isnt a patch on the one we normaly stay in - The Altalntica Bay in Limassol.

This hotel basically gets it's rating because the facilities are offered free. Service and clearing of plates in the buffet is slow, food is poor and I think re-cycled. I found a hair in my salad and my complaint was dismissed with a sorry attempt at humour. The shower facilities in the Sauna and the outside eating areas stunk of human effluent. One evening there was a questionable pool of dirty water adjacent to the eating patio. The animation team were not very enthusiastic, and the entertainment in the evenings was third rate, with one act being booed form the patio. Entertainment outside the hotel was O.K. thankfully we were not all inclusive it would have been a nightmare.

This is a well run, friendly and clean hotel. My wife and I would return without hesitation. You need the All Inclusive package to get the best value - drinks are expensive in the hotel as they are on the island and Europe in general! Strength of the euro unfortunately!

We were in Cyprus for a friends wedding and originally were going for a long weekend, the Thompson Week package we went on was good value, even thought we ate out 3 times in the week. The food although well cooked and wholesome needs some excitement injecting - get the message.

Best bits were the massage/manicure, the swim up bar, the weather, the breakfast and the proximity to the shops and main street. Oh and the headwaiter is fine and reception staff especially Katie were very helpful.

Regards

Paul & Di

We arrived back from the Crown Resorts Horizon in Coral Bay, Paphos Sunday evening. What a lovely holiday we have had. Our party was a mixture of 12 family members, we ranged from 16 to 69 and this hotel was fabulous for all of our needs. As we finished our transfer to the hotel we all gasped with excitement as we drove up to an inviting, fresh entrance. We waited in reception as our Rep sorted out what we needed and started to check in. The entrance hall is grand with a jewellery shop (which is quite expensive, but nice all the same!), a little conveinience and gift shop and an internet cafe. The welcome from the staff was friendly with them cracking jokes and being just generally very nice :) . We were pointed to our rooms and off we went. The rooms are a great size, appropriate for two sisters that have loads of clothes and shoes! and adequate for what you need it for (sleeping and getting ready?!). The beds were comfy and I found the one pillow provided enough, but my sister requested and received another pillow for her bed. There are balconies on each room, but they don't have much sunlight on them. But as we did our sunbathing by the pool or down the beach, it was fine! The restaurant was clean and served plenty of options of food morning, day and night. The waiting staff were again very friendly and if shown respect will be respectful back. We had a lot of fun with some of the staff that came accross as very easy going considering the hours they work. The drinks at Ermines bar within the all inclusive range were of plenty. We all managed to find cocktails, spirits and beer to suit and certainly had our moneys worth as i believe they were very expensive if you had to buy them. Contrary to the other reviews, the dress code is relaxed in the summer for the men. My father was always smart in his shorts and t-shirts and was able to eat with all of us in the main restaurant. The pool area is beautiful. It does become crowded up one end when the activities take place, but you are made aware of this and have plenty of space in the ajoining pool. The swim up bar is fabulous! It was just lovely drinking your cold drink in a lovely pool with the sun shining down on you (also the ice creams served here are much bigger than those at Ermines bar!!). The entertainment had its highs and lows. There were really great shows on most of our stay, but in contrast there is a live solo artist and live duo singing act that were just awful! I would reccommend anyone staying here to see the African Dancers, the Fire Eating Man, the Greek Dancers, the Cypriot Dancers and the Hypnotist; these really are fantastic with some great audience participation. The animation team also organise nightly bingo (which we proudly won on our last night!) and some quizzes that everyone definately enjoys. The girls Rene and Nik do a fabulous job of getting everyone involved and keeping you interested, they are lovely girls and anyone giving them negative reviews needs to rethink how they approached them. The staff were all super, everyone seems to strive to meet your every need even if it becomes confusing as 12 people shout out their orders at the same time!! The person that gave Olga a negative review - show respect and you will receive it in return. We had many a conversation and smile from Olga during our fortnight stay, a very lovely lady. I also need to mention Andrei who serves at Ermines Bar as he quickly became a valuable part of our holiday. He made us laugh and kept everyone happy in our group, a really great member of staff. And for that walk to the beach, it really isnt that bad. My grandparents did it everyday for a fortnight as did the rest of us. Ok it gets hot, but arm yourself with some water (the supermarket up the road sells them frozen for 85 cents) and it really isnt something that big to complain about. Apart from one day, the beach and sea was beautiful and definately worth the short walk - dont complain about the heat! its what you go there for!! I promise you, if you book to stay in this hotel you will not be dissapointed. I am one of 12 people to say that after our fantastic stay. Thank you everyone at the Crown Resorts Horizon for making our stay memorable :) .

we have just returned from an all inclusive holiday at this hotel which we would highley reccomend, especilally if you have children, as they can go to the bar and order ice cream and drinks all day long. The staff were very freindly and helpfull from the restauraunt to the cleaners and bar staff.
FOOD.. in general the food was good and if you didnt like the specials of the day there was plenty of other choices...we have a fussy seven year old boy and he ate a meal every time we did!
POOL.. the pools and surrounding areas were cleaned every morning and the only gripe was the ussual sunbed problem...but lets face it , its the brits that do it so you cant blame anyone else for it!!
ROOMS.. maid service every day and kept very clean...maids always polite and freindly...it was a bit cramped for 2 adults and 2 kids but it made it cosy.
tip .. to keep room cool take a buisness card and leave it in the slot that turns air con on and off with room key.
ANIMATION.. consisted of two young girls but they did not seem to have any get up and go... you never saw them trying to invite people to get involved or putting much effort into the entertainment---just seemed to plod on with their routine?--- it would be nice if they had a kids early evening disco or some thing for the kids to be involved in..THEY DONT LIKE BINGO AT SEVEN YEARS OLD !
First holiday as all inclusive and it wont be the last as things outside hotel were cheaper than hotel prices but still not cheap as it used to be...E U ???
For us this was a chill out week and that is exactly what we had.we met some nice people and have no complaints..we may even go back next year!

Visited in June 09- 24th- 1st July! All Inclusive!

Travelled with my mum, stepdad, nan, brother and girlfriend! Had a great time! Have a lot to say about the holiday!!

Food varied some nights it was great and others it wasn't too good! Customer service was excellent, Location was great, close to the strip containing bars, cluns, restaurants and shops. We went out a few nights and it was great!!

Entertainment was the highlight of the night! Every night there was something different!!
One night there was a magician, my girlfriend was in stocks getting her head chopped off!! There was also a hypnotist! my mum, nand and i were volunteered, we found ourselves playing pianos, driving ferraris and more importantly for me performing the moon walk and winning the competition!

The facilities were of a very high standard, consisting of a games room, gym, indoor and outdoor pool, spa, internet suite and lots more!

Paphos is a short drive or bus ride away and is fun for all the family with lots of shops, markets, activities and entertainment. We visited the tombs of the kings in Paphos and made the mistake of going late morning it was very hot and unbearble in the end! I would recommend visiting late afternoon.

Very clean and elegant hotel!

I would recommend to all ages to go all inclusive as it can be expensive with a family!!

Good value for money, a very good holiday!
