Once again on18th june i went on holiday to cyprus and paphiessa hotel, this is a lovely little family run hotel,it is very clean needs updating a little but an ideal place to stay close to all ameanaties, staff are very friendly and do there best to please, one the young waitress mikhaela whom sees to your meals ect, and also works the bar at times, also she joins in with the gests at night time with entertainment and ensures you have a nice holiday, but watch out for cushty the resident clown,he,ll make you laugh or maybe cry,all in all alovely place to be.

Room Tip: In the main hotel around the pool area

My husband and I stayed at the Paphiessa last week. On arrival we were disappointed at the standard of the accommodation in our one bedroom apartment which was long overdue a refurbishment. The kitchen area had a few cheap formica units which looked to date from the late 70s. The TV in the lounge area was an ancient, tiny portable and the reception was so bad it was unwatchable. The covers on the 2 sofas which obviously doubled as additional beds looked old and dirty, the coffee table was chipped formica. The bedroom furniture was dreadful - a wardrobe and dressing table that looked to be made from plywood painted matt brown, a stool that fell to bits when we moved it, mattresses where you could feel every spring with ill fitting PVC protective covers and sheets. We were in room 19 which fronts on to a very busy dual carriageway that bikers and boy racers with their stereos blaring use as a race track. Air conditioning is not standard and costs 9€ per unit a day. There were 2 units in our apartment in the bedroom and lounge a potential extra cost of 18€per day. With temperatures of 30C+ we paid for the one in the lounge only and kept the bedroom door open overnight. Like the kitchen, the bathroom was also long overdue a refurb - basic with mouldy grout and shower curtain and a rusty bath. Bleach seemed to be unheard of, and (not the hotel's fault) but a sewerage system that can't cope with toilet paper being flushed. The only plus was that the towels were clean and changed daily. We were half board but the food was terrible and we ate out for 3 nights after seeing what was on offer. Breakfasts are a buffet of cereal (no attempt to keep the milk cold), toast, beans boiled eggs, ham cheese, hot dog type sausages. The salads were good at dinner and there was usually soup as a starter too. There were 2 main courses on offer usually with rice/pasta and mixed veg or ratatouille. Dessert was jelly, fruit salad and ice cream if you could get to any of it for the other guests (mainly Russian). On the plus side, there were lots of sunbeds and a big swimming pool, The hotel is also fairly central for the port 850m away, catacombs 1km and Tombs of the Kings 2km. Not the hotel's fault (but they could help to influence getting something done about it) there doesn't seem to be any sense of civic pride at all in the area as there is litter strewn everywhere you go round about. Our first trip to Cyprus but likely to be our last.

A Jet2 holiday recommended hotel! We read the reviews and thought it might be OK as reviewers opinions varied. It was cheap-ish.. On arrival we asked for a quiet apartment and were placed next to the pool overlooking the busy dual carriageway - room 19. The charged 9€ a day for air con. It consisted of a sitting room with kitchen area and eating area, bedroom with two single beds, patio (facing the dual carriageway) and bathroom. The condition of the unit was awful, it had been built perhaps in the late 70s or early 80s and redecorated at some point by painting (very badly) the wood surfaces with flat brown paint or off white. Everything was dirty - the bathroom smelt of stale urine, not uncommon in a country where toilet paper is supposed to be put in a waste bin. The bath was rusting at the edges and walltiles had not been cleaned in a long long time.
Plus point towels were changed daily except for the day no maid came.
Food was aimed at the predominantly Russian guests - hot dog sausages, porridge, cold hard boiled eggs, sliced tomatoes, cheese, rolls and bread and cornflakes for breakfast with tea , coffee and a type of very diluted squash every morning. Evening meal - no drinks of any kind unless purchased, mixed salads every night, fruit salad and ice cream and 2 main dishes which bore no resemblance to any Greek dish I have ever eaten but similar to the rubbish served in the nastiest Bulgarian resorts. Mostly made of potatoes and minced meat served as fried meatballs, a type of pork stew or a "moussaka", we'd paid for it but looked tasted then ate elsewhere.
The pool was OK and plenty of sun loungers. The hotel is a 15 minute walk to the port ( a tourist trap)) and the amazing ruins - catacombs, bathhouses, mosaics and other ancient ruins and free for the most part. The nearest good beach is at Coral Bay a bus ride away. Best bet if you end up there is to spend very little time in the apartment. I cannot comment about the hotel rooms but think they would be of the same standard. the only place that had seen any renovation appeared to be the reception area.

This hotel is a credit to Nikos and his staff. They are all friendly and helpful. Plenty of freshly prepared food for breakfast and dinner. The rooms were cleaned every day and there was entertainment every night in the bar. Hotel is about 15 mins walk from the harbour. Will definitely stay here again.

Just back from Cyprus where I was attending a friends wedding. Having stayed in the Paphiessa previously I naturally booked in again. On my arrival I received so many hugs from the owner Nikos and all his family and staff. Absolutely brilliant. Just like visiting a seldom seen family member.
My bedroom was, as always, spotlessly clean and ready for me to occupy immediately. The new developments around the pool and bar are very comfortable and well set out and the evening entertainment is great fun thanks to the dedicated work of Nikos, Jamie and Mikaela. As for the evening meals; a well thought out buffet with a good selection of very well prepared traditional local food. (it is also much cheaper than dining in the local restaurants).
The other people attending the wedding from the UK were booked in various hotels around Paphos and there were numerous complaints about those places. Poor service, dirty rooms, awful food and uncaring staff seemed to be the main comments. Many of these people chose to spend their waking time with me at the Paphiessa. Happily, three couples were able to transfer and hopefully they will be successful in their efforts to claim refunds from their original hotels.
If you want to stay in a genuine 'home from home' atmosphere then this is the place.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the pool also give a lovely view across Kato Paphos to the sea
