Just returned from a weeks holiday at Sofianna,I agree with another review that if you were paying £400 for this holiday you would be disappointed but as we got this for £259 each we were very happy with it, place does need a bit of a revamp but it's clean with adequate facilities. Cleaning ladies were very friendly and came every day, bar staff were friendly enough(I sometimes think it's how you speak to people yourself) food was lovely and plenty of it. My only negative comment would be that we were shown to the vicinity of our room by receptionist but he didn't offer to help with the luggage, considering my partner was using crutches at the time and we had a child with us I thought it would've been nice if he'd helped me with the suitcases but he just watched me struggle. Local bars and restaurants were very nice serving lovely food although a few were closed due to the time of year. A lovely holiday in all!!

Having first stayed at the Sofianna 17 years ago, we have returned over the years
We stayed last year and again this October
Our October holidays are always a chill experience
Yes it is a bit dated, Yes there are many steps to some of the rooms, yes the balconies are small, yes the indoor bar is never open, and yes there is no entertainment. Yes is does seem in a run down street
BUT its near the restaurant we love going to - The Windmill Restaurant
It is near Baywatch Bar, where we have been going every year ! and a short walk to a large supermarket and the Harbour
It has a lovely pool area, which does need a but of work now, but plenty of sunbeds.
To be honest it needs some more work doing over the winter months but it suited us for our chill
I would definitely book again as it suited us, and for the price we couldn't complain
oh and we had no problem with the staff - if you treat them as human beings they will be polite back !!

Just been for a 10 day stay with family to the Sofianna. This is my 2nd stay here, with the rest of the family having been regularly over the last 8 or 9 years. We split our party between a one-bed apartment and a two-bed, which the staff arranged to be located opposite one-another. The rooms were slightly dated in terms of decor, but were clean, well furnished and comfortable. Each apartment has a well-equipped kitchen (microwave, kettle, coffee percolater, toaster, cooker with grill, hobs and oven, crockery, etc), a sitting room with a sofa, table, chairs and a TV, and a balcony. The balcony in the one-bed was overlooked by another apartment (inevitable, I suppose), but on the two-bed was a glorious sun-trap, and large enough for the whole party to sit out on which was great for pre-dinner drinks.

The pool was a little chilly, but clean and large enough for a complex of this size; the children's play area is well equipped and there is a lovely little vegetable garden to wander round too. There are more-than sufficient sunbeds for everyone by the pool, and the pool bar offers a decent range of food and drink. So, this is a really nice place to lounge during the day if this is what you're into.

The location is perfect for what we wanted - a couple of strides from the a nice bar, no more than 2 or 3 minutes from loads of great restaurants, and 5 minutes walk from the lovely harbour area. Despite this, it's still quite quiet, so you can get an uninterrupted night's sleep.

The price is really competitive, and there is the option of having a breakfast in the hotel lounge if you wish. We'll certainly be back at the Sofianna, and would recommend it highly.

Room Tip: Ask for a pool view.

I have read some of the negative comments about the Sofiana appts.

TRUE - It's looking a bit tired and in need of a bit of decoration.
TRUE - Some of the area where it's situated are a bit run down (not their fault)
TRUE - it's not the cleanest place I've ever stayed in.
TRUE - That some of the rooms didn't have the best view

BUT - What do people expect for the money?
We paid £325 each including tranfers and all airport/flight fees and got somewhere to live for 7 night with a lovely clean pool / breakfast & bar facilities a gym/jacussi and a great reception area with wifi access. We had friendly and knowlegable reception staff and hard worked (probably underpaid) but very friendly cleaning staff.
When you go to stay in countries like greece/spain/cyprus (particualarly now with their cash strapped ecconomies) you have to accept that you will get what you pay for. I think that when you go to the soffianna appts you get what you have paid for. Don't get me wrong- if I had paid more than £400 I would have been rather dissappointed. However -

Our room/s were quite well equipped - toaster/microwave/kettle/coffeemaker/fridge/cooker/etc. There would not have been enough pans to cook a full meal though.

The aircon was on 3 settings - no effect - cool - ice cold. No complaints there - and it was free!
The balconies were a bit on the small side (1 table & 2 chairs max despite supposedly catering for 4 people).
There was only 1 bed room with twin beds and a sette pull out bed affair which was about 3/4 size and as hard as a rock.

The Tv seemed to only have 3 stations - but who watches tv on holiday?

The kitchen/living room had plenty of space and some nice comfy chairs.

One balcony view was overlooking the pool and one was overlooking a back road.

The place itself is fairly well situated in the resort, a short way from the VERY DISSAPOINTING sea front. The front consists of a harbour like affair with a concrete/wooden area covered in sunbeds and pontoons leading into the rocky sea with steps leading down to the water.Travel just a mile or so and go to the mundanely titled MUNICIPAL BEACH which has a lovely stretch of sandy beach.

It's close to Tavernas and not far from a vast array of shops/tavernas/ice cream places/bars/etc on the front which lead to a pleasant Marina/harbour area. It's far enough away from the 'madding crowd ' to be ok for light sleepers as noise was of a minimum (perhaps if opposite the taverna it might have been a bit noisy). But in general nice quiet (if not scenic)back street location.

If you want something fun and exiting to do go on MICHAELS segway adventure (booking at the magic shop). It's fun, exiting, safe and Michael is brilliant. He fills you with confidence and you will be segwaying like a pro in 20 mins.

In my opinion avoid the undersea diving adventure (run by Thomas Cooks) . It's realy not worth the 45E and the "2 hour adventure" along the "coral reef" turned out to be just 15 mins actually in the water (which was about 12 foot deep). They aught to be sued for mis-representation on their leaflets!

Regarding the Sofianna apps Overall then - you get what it says on the tin - and I for one can't say that I'm complaining. Would I SPECIFICALY make a point of staying there again? - No.
If it were the only way of having a chepish holiday in Cyprus - Yes

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking the pool (we were in 407)

Just back from 10 night stay at Sofianna – billed as a 4 ‘sun’ apartment by Co-op Travel, and described as a warm, welcoming, comfortable, haven, and fully equipped, home from home. Overall we found it more 2 star than 4, and had a better experience in 2 star Ayia Napa than 4 star Paphos.

We arrived late evening to be met by a surly receptionist who pointed us in the direction of our studio, along an unlit first floor walkway, overlooking a derelict apartment block. The room was small, tired and dated, with a balcony on a small internal courtyard facing other balconies. The window in the bedroom area faced a wall less than a foot away, and a number of appliances did not work. When we went to reception to complain we were told that nothing could be done until the next morning.

Next morning we were offered an alternative room overlooking the main road outside the complex, local recycling bins and some derelict land, and decided it presented a better option even though there was an interconnecting door to the next apartment.

Although room was superficially clean, did not merit closer inspection – carpeted areas were filthy. Towels changed almost every day, but same sheets on beds for 10 nights – and not that clean looking to start with. Having an oven was a key point for us but sadly nothing oven-proof to use in it, no chopping board and blunt bread knife.

Worst of all was 4 night invasion by TOWIE wannabees who caused so much disruption on their first night from 3-5 am that the local police were called. After we and many others complained they were quieter the second night, but gradually regressed for the rest of their stay – no doubt enjoying the delights of the nearby ‘bar’ street.

Will not be recommending or returning.

Just got back ,after a week stay at the sofianna.what can I say, only it's so sad,it could be an excellent hotel, because its in a great location, but its a very tired un clean hotel.!!!very very dated,it badly needs modernising.!!!!standard of cleaning is very poor, mirrors in bathroom not cleaned, switches on wall dirty, bath not cleaned, old scum on it.rooms desperately need a deep clean.pool quite nice, plenty of sun loungers, and nice pool bar, that sadly is the only good thing I can say.budget and basic.!!!!!would I stay there again,no.!!!it was just my husband and myself, and noticed, there was not very much for children here, this holiday was just a little break on our own,and am so glad it wasn't our main holiday.!!!!i would have been very upset at the the rooms and facilities had it been our main holiday.but, still love paphos.xx
