Stayed at the Ascos from 19/7/11 until 26/7/11
Whilst it is billed as a 4* due to the tired decor in parts is in reality in a 3* plus.
I saw lots of mixed reviews and to be honest, I cannot understand why people have complained about the following:
Food- Standard & quality are very good, always lots and always hot.
Rooms- Bed very comfortable, bathroom always clean, where people state bath is slippery even with a bathmat is unfounded.
From checking in we were greeted warmly by the staff on duty and even had our bags delivered by a very warm and friendly English man (Philip I think).
The cleaning staff whether it was the chamber maid to the groundsmen all greeted you with a smile and worked very hard to keep all areas clean.
My only point regarding the staff is the lack of Cypriot people working in the people facing roles, these apart from a few waiters were all Eastern european, and while the service was good alot of the true character of the place was lost.
Also worth an honerable mention Just up the road from the hotel is Feggatti taverna which is ran by Panos, food excellent and all home made to a very high standard.
Ok onto the bad points:
Entertainment (day & night)
To say it was very poor is being kind to Kelsie & Dimitry, Daytime consisted of French bowls, aqua areobics, water volley ball, killer pool and darts. That was it for the whole 7 days we were there, no variation and nothing for the kids to really join in with.
Then the sun went down, and this is you need to be afraid, be VERY afraid. Every night we had Kelsie doing a quiz, followed by her singing (sounding like a strangled cat). Then Dimitry and his bored monotoned voice did the bingo, again SAME EVERY NIGHT.
No mini disco or anything for the little ones (this is supposed to be a family hotel now) and the so called professional acts had to be sen to be beleived. A so called magic act that did only mind tricks with no actual magic involved, a singing group with a medley of hits through time who's male singer sang every song like Elvis, even if it was an Abba song (I kid you not), oh how i laughed at this while numbing the pain with the excellent dry white wine.
Please do not let the above detract you from going to the Ascos as im sure they can iron out the issues above and turn this into an all round excellent experience including better entertainment during the day and evening.
