“4* little bit of luxury”
Reviewed 21 April 2014 via mobile

We have just come back (yesterday) from a weeks stay at Ascos Coral Beach Hotel booked through Thomas Cook.
It was a very enjoyable holiday, beautiful hotel and grounds very luxurious and extremely clean and well staffed.
Unfortunately when we booked we were not told that the hotel restaurant and breakfast/lunch room have a dress code! My husband wear trousers, shirt and tie all week so when he's holidaying the last thing he wants to do is dress formal so doesn't even take formal clothing with him.
This did not go unnoticed by duty manager Stelios who looked my hubby up n down every evening with a look of disgust!
Although he was wearing jeans and smart polo tshirts (like 50% of the other guests).
The reception was well manned and there was always someone there to help.
We were on the 2nd floor in room 274 and we had a side and pool view. The room was a very large well equipped size, with a kettle and also a fridge.
We had a view on both sides being a corner room so could see the sea and pool as well as more of the bay houses.
The maids did a great job everyday mopped the floors, made the beds, changed towels if needed etc.
Food was very fresh and plentiful. There were different selections every meal time and it never became repetitive.
The waiter/waitresses were very hot to remove empty plates, sometimes when not empty!
Do not put your knifes and forks down or they'll whip you're dinner away! This too goes for glasses of drink, sometimes so annoying as you are still actually eating.
If you were sat at a table in the bar area, pool area or even the communal reception areas the staff still came and served you drinks which was nice.
Language was sometimes an issue, I asked for a cup of tea and the waitress kept saying she didn't understand?!!
The man who mans reception at night (the big bloke) is a very nice man, nice to chat to and very helpful.
The Thomas Cook rep started as Phillipa but changed to Ruth? When I went down 1 morning to find her between 10-11 it said, I was told she had already left? Bit annoying!
We didn't use the hotel entertainment we don't like sitting with screaming kids running around carrying trays and smashing glasses!
Although the young man who gets people to play darts etc and the fitness lady were both very cheerful and pleasant.
The hotel was always immaculately clean.
We hired a car from the hire place just up from the hotel €100 for the week, bargain! We visited various places around the island, we drive 490 miles! If you get a chance to visit Nicosia then go! The Turkish border part is fab, some real bargains and bartering to be had!
Kato Pafos (Lower Paphos) harbour is lovely, our favourite place to visit in the evening for a stroll and a drink with free wifi.
The hotel should provide free wifi in the communal areas in this day and age, I refused to pay their extortionate prices!!!
All in all we loved it and would return for sure

We have been staying at this hotel since 2005, and to us it is like staying with family. The staff are always pleased to see us and are all polite and friendly. Last year we were unable to get a booking for our usual dates and sadly had to go elsewhere. However, we did visit the hotel on a couple of occasions and had lunch there. As usual, we were welcomed by all the staff. Yes, there are some areas of the hotel that could do with upgrading, but the rooms are all clean and the food is pretty good. We like the atmosphere of the hotel and arriving there feels like home. We understand the entertainment had gone downhill but the management are working on improving that. We find all the staff polite and helpful and as previous reviewers have said, if you speak to the staff and treat them with respect they will do likewise. Looking forward to seeing you all in November

Just returned from a week in the Ascos Coral Beach Hotel, Cyprus. The service was amazing...never had to move to get a drink, whether round the pool, in the restaurant or bar, as the staff couldn't do enough for you. Couldn't fault them! Hats off the the animation team...Mohammed and Zina! They were fantastic, especially with our 2 children. The entertainment in the evening and around the pool was spot on, and they were brilliant at getting to know the kids and involving them in everything. They even let them do a little show on their last evening! The food was good - we all preferred the selection at lunchtime, as it was much more varied and the children ate a lot more. The evening meal would be even better if there was always a lighter selection available, eg pizza and pasta. Although there was always a pasta option, it was sometimes tricky to please the kids in the evening as it was mainly meat/fish with potatoes or rice. The rooms are a little tired and could do with a little updating in places, but they were very clean and there was a daily maid service. The pool area was lovely, and Zina did a great job leading yoga/pilates, aqua aerobics and Zumba sessions to help burn off some of the calories from all the food and cocktails! We didn't want to leave, and would be happy to return. A super holiday in a lovely hotel. Thankyou!

People's expectations differ. The staff are friendly, pool area good. Is this an overall 4 star package though? We read previous reviews before we booked and came to the conclusion this is a tired hotel, probably reliant on Russian tourists in the future. Is this any different throughout Cyprus? W e were told by staff that very few hotels were open in the winter in Paphos, fewer british are going to Cyprus. The canteen food was poor quality, limited choice and never hot, diluted drinks were disappointing. We ate out the majority of our holiday. The staff may be friendly at the Ascos but without them it would be no more than a 2 star with a reasonable pool area. I hope that previous reviewers have complained to their tour operator. After all, why blame the hotel? It is the travel agents who misold this hotel.

Room Tip: Pay extra for sea view room

Have just returned froon Ascos Hotel Coral Bay . This was our 13 th visit to the Ascos and as usual we had a fabulous holiday there,As both my wife and I are dissabled we were treated in the usual manner, the staff couldn't do enought for us, People complain about the staff in previous reviews. , we treat them as human beings not as foriegn slaves . From the moment we arrive to the minute we leave we enjoy every minute there. We will be returning in October , Remember treat the staff with respect and they will do likewise. The bar staff and the poolside bar staff are excellent . Zina the entertainments rep is improving the entertainment as the season progresses and is a lovely lady.

Room Tip: Rooms with pool view or sea view are preferable to mountain views.

We have just got back after one week at the Ascos, all previous reviews were spot on! Pool freezing, food bit monotonous, last day the best menu. Air conditioning not working, we risked being bitten to death and had the balcony door open! No beach just a dirt track, but Coral Bay only few minutes on the bus. Bar and waiting staff were brilliant. Entertainment was the worst we've had, mostly karaoke. Not a 4 star hotel though.
