“Great Choice”

Great resort although they could come down 1 star for the rating. Kids (7,12,15) loved the pool area with the swim up bar. Staff very helpful as are the kids club reps who kept the young ones entertained during the day. Entertainment during the evenings a bit limited at the Avanti Village but more on at the sister hotel which is a small walk across the road.
Wouldnt go all inclusive listening to other comments from those who did. Breakfast at the Village good value eating out will cost. We spent about £2800 on food and drinks for a 2 week stay eating out every night with a snack at lunch.
Rooms clean with plenty of space but make sure you ask for a 1st floor as you will have the privacy. We rang the reception from the UK 2 weeks before arrival for our 2nd visit in 2008 and asked for block B which has a view of the pool and bar area without being next to all the noise.
Walking into the town takes alittle more than the travel sites tell you (1/2 hr) but the bus stops outside the hotel and costs about 2 euros each.
Local people are lovely although you get the odd taxi driver that will rip you off. Always agree the price before you ride. Dont let them charge you by the meter.
The water park is great, something for everyone, cost for 5 of us about £110.
Make sure you take plenty of sun cream. In June 2007 we had a heat wave and the temp got up to 49c. Last year in June it averaged 36c- 40c.

We have just got back from Avanti Village. We paid about 350 euros for the apartment for 7 nights which was very reasonable and made up for the expensive flights we got with Easyjet. In terms of value for money, it was good but I would have preferred to pay a little more for the apartment and get some of the things which I consider basic but which the management probably considers to be luxury.

The only thing supplied was soap. In a 4* complex I would have expected shampoo, shower gel, washing up liquid, a dish cloth and a tea towel as a basic minimum. Other places we have been to supplied these things and more such as condiments, water, fruit, flowers, etc, if not a whole basket full of food.

We had intended to be self catering but with washing up liquid at £4 per small bottle and no cleaning materials at all, not even a tea towel, the supermarket prices being ridiculous and there not being any fresh fruit, meat or vegetables in the local shops, we immediately gave up and paid 17 euros each for half board. This turned out to be a good choice with breakfast on the terrace in the village and dinner at the Avanti Hotel accessed by a path round the back of the tennis courts.

The apartment was spacious and the beds comfortable but being on the ground floor had no privacy so we had to keep the curtains drawn which made it dark and coupled with the dank, musty smell which greeted us when we arrived and the cold tiled floor with not even a rug to break it up, it felt the opposite of cosy. This is probably fine in summer but in April it was cold at night and I longed for my slippers and warm PJs. The blankets weren't sufficient and the heating was obtained by turning up the aircon which was noisy and gave intermittent blasts of warm air. I did shiver in my bed at night and regretted not packing some warmer clothes for the evenings in the apartment.

We didn't touch the kitchen stuff as we had abandoned all thoughts of self catering but it looked fine and everything was very clean.

The complex itself was fabulous - huge pool and pool area (although the water was too cold for me, children didn't seem to mind it) - plenty of sunbeds and parasols, the kids all loved the lazy river, drinks bar by the pool and a children's playground in the shade where you could keep an eye on them from your sunbed.

There is also an indoor pool but we didn't see anyone use it (you need a bathing cap) and we used the gym at 2 euros per visit.

The shop wasn't open when we first arrived but it opened at Easter and was useful for drinks and snacks although again very expensive.

The entertainment was also just starting up as we were there. For kids there was T shirt painting and a mini disco in the evenings and for adults there was karaoke, quiz nights and live music. The entertainment people were lovely.

There is no proper beach and the sea is obscured from view by a line of hotels which is
a shame but you can walk along the sea front.

The restaurants were all still very empty in April which was another reason why we went half board - restaurants with huge menus and no customers can't possibly be serving fresh food - although this isn't a problem in high season of course.

I would only visit the Avanti Village again if it was upgraded with a few extra touches in the apartment. For me it was too spartan and basic and I like my comfort.

Also, it took us much longer than 20 minutes to walk to the port although I guess you would get there faster if you walked with purpose rather than stroll along. If I were to visit Paphos again I would choose somewhere closer to the harbour (where there is a huge choice of bars and restaurants) or closer to Papos town centre (good shops although not affordable until the pound rises in value again). We all suffered from blisters!

Staff were very helpful and friendly.

This is a great place to stay, the rooms are really big and the bed in the main bedroom is huge and the air conditioning is a bonus.
The kids (4&9) loved the swimming pool and lazy river, and ever so often when they dragged themselves out of the pool they played in the park.
They have activities daily such as water polo and archery (these were run by BB and Rowland our neighbours) a kids club and a Gym, Saunas, Treatment rooms, jacuzzi and indoor pool.
They had entertainment on in the evenings at the village or at the sister hotel.
The village had a couple of restaurants which were great value and a great bar called Captain Hooks if you fancy a giggle with the host who's catchphrase is "I love my job".

We stayed here because we got married at the town hall and it was just right and the staff are brilliant, our daughter made friends with the maid who also did a brilliant job.

Two things to keep in mind,
1. It's very expesive in Paphos especially the harbour so have a wander for good places to eat as there are loads of places dotted about.
2.Do not hire anything from CHRIS ANDREOU RENTALS & QUAD-BIKE SAFARIS. The reception staff will now warn people as the owners stole our quad bike from the car park (even though it was chained up and and they cut out the ignition box).
So my husband (of 2 days) went and told the owners and they said they were going to keep his passport until he handed over 1000 euros. Basically the police gave the rental company a [---] and demanded they gave back the passport immediatly as they were breaking the law and they weren't insured to hire things out and will probably be shut down.

arrived late at night so a bit unsure of the place when we arrived.
but the next morning we had a look around and settled by the big swimming pool. plenty of sunbeds available throughout the day.
kids loved it and spent lots of time in the water .
poolside activities were there if you wanted to participate.
the lazy river was great for relaxing on a lilo.
we didn't choose to eat in the sister hotel as there was such a great choice of resturants, close by were ribshack and bombay which were fantastic. a little walk away towards the harbour we found porto bello italian resturant this was the best of the lot.
the black rose was a great place for drinks and cocktails nice staff and good on price. fiesta bar also had a nice atmosphere and the food was good as well for a bit of lunch.
the harbour is a nice evening out lots of bars an resturants.
the whole time we were there the weather was great.
due to the euro rate things did seem quite expensive bit overall paphos was lovely. next time i would choose different accomadation somewhere a bit more luxurious.

Stayed at the Avanti between 6th and 20th August. Very pleasant holiday, asked for room near reception as one of our group had walking difficulties and found the staff very helpful and pleasant and gave us a very good room. When we arrived the air conditioning didn't work (actually, it did but we did't have a remote control to work it) there was no toaster, tea towels and some cutlery was missing. All of these things were sorted within two hours, so cant grumble.

The maid was extremely good and friendly, fresh towels, every day, even on the two days they have off a week. They tidied everything up very well and even put my daughters two cuddly rabbits to bed of a night when we were out. ahh!

Pool area is lovely, not very deep, however it was very busy. Usually went to the pool about 9am and left at 11.30 as the pool was full of inflatables and people playing ball games in there by this time, so you couldn't swim properly, I was hit on the head with a ball twice. Amused my daughter no end. Would go back to the pool about 5.30pm for an hour or so before dinner.

On the whole we liked the food, and on the nights we were not quite keen on the theme, we ate mostly in the Fiesta, a little restaurant on the complex (to get to it walk through the Avanti Village away from the pool, at the far end in a little courtyard) food and staff there are very very good ( husband particularly liked the ribs). There is a shop at the Village, the lady in there was lovely and we used to get bits from there, if we couldn't get what we wanted there is another shop at the far end of the complex which was open later to.

The entertainment team were very good, Adel, Toni, Roland and BB, good personalities and not pushy. Our daughter was quite taken with Toni (young girl from Bulgaria) who took her and some friends to the pool, played games with them and also took them for craft time in a room above Avanti Village Reception. Daughter is 6 years of age and cant wait to go back. There is a kiddies disco from 9pm to 10pm which is great if you have kids, it was an hours chill out time for us adults, we could see our daughter enjoying herself with friends, whilst sitting having a coffee or two. Would have prefered it an hour earlier but was still good. The first week all the children were very well behaved, however, the second week a lot of annoying older children turned up, running up and down, one youngster had an accident in the bar. Some people were smoking in the Hotel to. (Its supposed to No Smoking) Not nice. The adult entertainment was good but could of done with varying it a bit, once you had seen the parrot show first week (which was very good) it lost its spark the second time round. Perhaps if the routine was changed every two weeks instead of every one. Also. we thought that there wasn't quite as much effort entertaining at the Avanti Village compared to the Hotel, and people from the Hotel didn't come to the Village to see the entertainment, all a bit one sided.

The area of the Hotel is very good, there are several restaurants to choose, we tried Chinese, a fish restaurant and snack bar, no complaints about any of them. The bus stop is not far and the buses run every 15mins. We also went on the Firework evening boat trip, that was brilliant, try and get there early so you get a seat near the front though. The staff on there are very entertaining, attentive and the floor show was great. The food was excellent and there were fun and games watching people trying to dance with the boat rocking side to side, very funny.

We hired a car for a week, there's plenty to see and if you want a quiet beach good for kids, head for Coral Bay but take the second turn off and head for the big hotel. The beach there is great, you pay 6 Euros for two sun beds and a brolly and you can use the Hotel facilities and there are cafes and a shop or two there.

All in all, we enjoyed our holiday and we would go back, there were no significant problems and certainly nothing we couldn't work around. The staff were helpful, rooms clean and food good, the temperature in August was approx. 30-32 degrees, so take plenty of sun cream, sit back and enjoy. Happy Hols!

  • Liked — It was clean & situated near pool/reception for person with walking difficulties.
  • Disliked — Family above banging doors and dragging furniture 2 days before we left.

We have just returned from a great family holiday at the Avanti Village complex in Paphos. I cannot believe some of the bad comments that i read before travelling and now having visited would like to add mine.

I read that staff were rude: All the staff from the reception to the maids were all friendly and very helpful.
The place was not clean: The complex and rooms are spotless.
There is no entertainment: There is entertainment every night. On Saturday & Monday evenings the entertainment is at the Village, then the other evenings at the Hotel which is a two minute walk. Music is played by one of the entertainment staff on the nights when the hotel is hosting the entertainment. The good thing about this is that if you want a quiet evening at the Village bar you can and if not, just pop over to the Hotel. The entertainment staff are excellent. Roland from Hungary & BiBi from Belgium (originally Brazil) do the days sports entertainment as well as the evening and they are fantastic guys, very helpful and friendly. Toni does the kids club as well as the evenings and does a great job. The main entertainment guy called Mi-chi from Africa does a great job with the evenings entertainment and is very funny and ensures that for 3 hours in the evenings all the family are involved in the entertainment, from kids disco, bingo and a type of cabaret.

The pool is fantastic and very clean, not too deep so you are not worrying about the kids all the time, the sunbeds are easy to get at any time, yes some people get up early and put towels out and if you wanted the same spot every day this is what you would have to do, but if you don't, you will not have a problem getting any.

The Harbour, on 1 review was 5 miles away. Probably not even 1 mile and about an half hour stroll if you fancy braving the heat. If not the bus service is good with regular service's running all day from early a.m. till 23:00 at night. Taxis are very easy to get and not too expensive and even willing to haggle if they are quiet.

To finish off, i would recommend the Avanti Village to anyone for a great family holiday!!!
