“Won't be going back to Aquamare”
Reviewed 9 July 2014 via mobile

We have stayed at the Aquamare 4 times, and always found it to be a good hotel. Will not return to this hotel, the sunbeds were always uncomfortable, but this year a lot of them were broken. They used to move them, stack them up and tidy the gardens, not any more, beds in exactly the same place as left the day before, complete with litter, people hadn't bothered to put in bin. Not enough umbrellas. We took our grandson with us this year, he was in the pool and kids were jumping in and splashing every one, I told them to go do it somewhere else. They were hanging round the steps, so people couldn't get in or out. The kids room, was rubbish, air con wasn't on. Half the stuff didn't work and no kids club at all. The small kiddies pool is in need of a good overhaul. This hotel has definitely gone downhill. The rooms are ok, breakfasts repetitive and the toasters didn't work properly, they used to toast the bread on both sides!!!! . It's a shame, because we always found the staff very friendly, Marina works very hard, and always has a smile and a "hello" The ladies in the spa, need to smile, very abrupt and dismissive.
Also free for all on a weekend couldn't get in the pool for kids and their parents, who parked their car and used the facilities. The final straw was things going missing from our room. Have to say really disappointed, as we have had a few good holidays here, but will not be returning to this hotel.

I was planning to have a relaxing week alone. The hotel fit the target quite well. There was a construction site nearby. I booked a SSV room, but got a construction site veiw with a side sea veiw instead. The room was terribly noisy. The noise came from the kitchen and started at 5 a.m. every morning. Luckily they changed the room after 2 nights. The next room was excellent - front sea view and silence! There was a very well-equiped gym I visited daily. The hotel was on the beach, and I managed to swim in the sea although it was November: the sea water was warmer than the pool water. Food was not very good but there was nothing to complain about.

I was a bit worried when I saw some of the recent poor reviews. But we were very happy with our stay. The hotel is a good standard near 4 star. Some of the surrounding hotels do look to be better and no doubt have a price tag to match.

The room was modern and clean. All public areas were good and the restaurants of a similar high standard. Breakfast was excellent. I also thought the beach area was OK. There is a nice walk along the beach front, past the the other hotels - ideal for an evening stroll.

There is a new hotel under construction on the plot next to the hotel, but the building work was not noisy or obtrusive.

The only criticism I have is that the condition of the concrete/fibreglass ship in the children's paddling pool is poor. There are sharp metal screws in places waiting to cause an accident. So best to keep your young children away from that. The pool itself is great for very young children.

We have been coming to Paphos since 2011, staying at different 4 star hotels, Pioneer Beach twice, and the Athena , and just spent 10 Days at the Aquamare. Upon arrival we requested a porter to take our luggage to our room, no porter...first time a 4 star has no porter...our room ok, clean and beds not bad. We found the staff to be not the most polite, and seemed to have a attitude problem, especially the girls In the spa, where we had to collect the pool towels, they were so abrupt, I am not surprised there was not many guests using these facilities. The gym was very good, well equipped and the guy at the desk was helpful and friendly.
I have read a few reviews and Marina was mentioned a fair bit, she along with Demos and Dan were great, Dan even kept the bar open for us, whilst England was playing Italy, it was not a problem for him, Marina always had a smile, no matter what time of day...Demos always a smile.
The sun loungers are the worst......not enough, totally uncomfortable, just poor standard. Not enough umbrellas ....and not one chair or umbrella on the beach. Not forgetting the skip by the beach! Also passers by just take a chair and make themselves comfortable for the day. One scruffy guy in jeans and a dirty t shirt attends the grounds ...so what makes this a 4 star? No concierge, no pool attendant, all other hotels have a sign saying for Hotel Guests only, this Aquamare is a free for all. So it must be the Spa that gives this a 4 star? Compare this hotel to any of the others it's like comparing Chalk to cheese....so if any one can tell me why chose this hotel over any if the other 4 star hotels in this area....I would really like to know.
We shall be returning to Paphos in September, will definitely not be booking the Aquamare!

.

Room Tip: up grade to a sea view as original room overlooked the roundabout, and not much distance from hotel...

The hotel is not too big and was not particularly busy when we stayed the first week of June. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the rooms a good size and kept very clean.

Breakfast was fine but I wish that they had cooked the bacon much more and the scrambled egg looked out of a packet or tin?

Overall we had a great time there.

Just returned from a lovely week at this 4* (Cyprus) hotel. It really doesn't warrant 4*, it's the Spa and gym that probably give it elevated status. First impressions are of a stylish hotel, nice public areas and really pretty, well maintained gardens and pool area. We had a room on the 3rd floor overlooking the road but it wasn't too busy and noise was not an issue. For a 4* hotel, the room was basic but was spotlessly clean. Our biggest issue, though, was the bed. They are the most uncomfortable beds I have ever slept in, absolutely rock hard with no give at all. Needless to say, sleep was a problem and despite being very fit and active, we got up every morning with excruciating back, neck and hip ache. I ended up folding my duvet in half and lying on that with just a sheet over me but it was still really uncomfortable. We were on a B&B basis. Breakfasts were very good, nice variety with freshly cooked omelettes etc. We had dinner one evening in the hotel, food was good, buffet style. One thing I wish the hotel could do is control the number of people who pile huge amounts of food on their plates, stuff themselves and then take another pile out to eat later! The grounds are well maintained with a lovely pool and a small one for infants to play in. Lots of sunbeds but they really do need upgrading. There is a small beach area, rocky but you can get in to swim (rocks are all very smooth so no worries about cuts and abrasions!). The hotel also has a very well equipped gym, which has private membership for local residents. The Spa is lovely although I didn't use any of the facilities. The hotel is located out of Paphos town and port, which is a real bonus as Paphos is very busy and noisy. Good bus route into the town. We used to regularly travel to Cyprus but haven't been since it joined the Euro. It is quite expensive so expect to pay at least 20 euros for a main course and 16 euros for a bottle of local house wine. The food was good but it certainly wasn't fine dining. We found the staff friendly and the service good. Cyprus has changed dramatically over the last 7 years and sadly, not for the better. Lots of empty, run down shops and businesses yet they still keep building more and more of the same. Paphos, which was such a pretty historic port with lovely waterfront cafes and restaurants, is now trying to out do Aiya Napa which is such a shame. The island (and this hotel) is absolutely dominated by Russian guests and business people and it's very obvious that the Chinese are investing heavily as well. If they spend some of their money on the Aqua Mare then it really could become a very good place to stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view but the Russians will have got there first!

Nice week spent in the aquamare in May 2014. Staff mostly very friendly, a few hard work but all in all a nice relaxing stay. Must have had the biggest balcony in the hotel! Just a few things missing from top stars. Kids pool good but rough surface underneath the outside view and could have done with some more water. Restaurant/pool bar staff were great.bit of a lack of atmosphere.
