We stayed at the Forest Park Hotel in April 2013. We arrived with no reservation after having had a look at the New Helvetia Hotel where we had a booking (not recommended). The staff were helpful and friendly. We enjoyed sitting by the open fire, enjoying a brandy sour not long after settling in. We stayed two nights and ate in the hotel both nights - the food was lovely. The owners where delightful and the history of the hotel fascinating. We highly recommend the hotel and would definitely stay again. Emma, Australia

We were booked into Forest Park for two nights but left after one. We would have left without staying if we had been able to get other arrangements made quickly enough.

The receptionist was snappy and unhelpful not even poffering porter service to me as a disabled customer, she just pointed to the lift.

We were given a basic room after booking a superior one but if that happens to you don't worry, the superior wasn't much better. Stains on the bedlinen, stains on the curtains, p[eeling paint on the wall, shabby cheap furniture, mould around the bath tub and crumbs on the flloor.

The we were moved after complaining to a bogger room. Huge chips out of the plaster, dirty marks on the walls, mould on the bath tub, stains on the carpet and the same [peeling paint next to the door. The mould around the bath was revolting but the grip handle on the side took the biscuit, taped on and the tape p[ainted over to disguise it. Tried to load a photo of that buit it wouldn't load. We took photos of everything but onl;y loaded the peeling paint and dirty bedroom wall.

A complaint resulted initially in a telephone call from a manager to tell me I was wrong thenm an offer to not charge for the use of a kettle! A basket of fruit was sent yp but that was not the point, this is a 4 star hotel with a 2 star performance.

The atmosphere was unpleasant too, a bit 'Bates Motel'.

We were told that they were having a 'soft refurbishment' this winter but I have since found out that the agent was advised that they did that in 2009 and another ex-guest I met told me they were told the same in 2010. Seems it is the sandard excuse for the decrepid nature of the place. Nonetheless, even if it were true it does not excuse the dirt.

The only saving grace was the quality of he meal at dinner time.

This hotel obviously needs a serious renovation and a few people of the staff must try behave more professionally.

On the positive side, the whole scenery is beautiful and relaxing. Swimming pool and its surroundings are definetely an extra plus for this hotel. Breakfast was adequate, served on a very pleasant balcony. Bathroom was clean.

Concluding my comments, Forest Park is the best alternative if you choose to visit and stay at Platres.

This Hotel is overall great value for money, it's classic 50's style is very warm and authentic, i can imagine the big movie stars staying here when they were in town, in fact Telly Savalas(KOJAK)
stayed here in 81 .We received a very warm welcome when we arrived, especially from one of the owners, Hercules. It's clean, serves great tradition food and is very well priced. The live music with Roger in the evenings is fab, and a nice surprise, this far away from any major town. The location and setting in the Troodos mountains is stunning, and if you just want to get away for a nice chilled weekend it's perfect, and only 45 minutes drive from Paphos or 30 from Limassol.
Its not the Savoy, but it's not trying to be, or needs to be, It's The Forest Park Hotel and it's worth a shot. We loved it and would recommend it to anyone.
Thank you from Michael, Anna & Mathew Antoniou (Pafos)

Generally a pleasant stay. Three point for the management/owners:
1. In the age of information we expected to have wifi in our rooms and not just the lobby and part of the verandah- internet by the pool would also be well appreciated
2. Some outdoor plus for recharging /using different electronic gadgets would also be handy
3. Smokers smoke heavily wherever they please on the large verandah making it hell for non smokers - just because they can. A bit of innovation ie a small out of the way smokers corner would be very healthy for all - the plain fresh mountain air scented with pine is much better
