“Value for money accommodation”
Reviewed 7 August 2013

A cheap hotel which cost us less than £100 for the week so wasn't expecting too much.
The room was basic however cleaned regularly, with new towels provided everyday if you requested them. Beds were comfortable, decent mattress and extra pillows provided.
Breakfast was your basic continental of meats, cheeses, bread and croissants. However tables were cleared slowly and not reset so if you arrived late you had to hunt for glasses and knives or take them from other tables.
Service in the reception and bar area was poor. We waited around for about 20 minutes when we arrived and only got seen to after following the man working there around into the bar area. Even then he still had a few other jobs to see to downstairs before he checked us in! We were given the room key and then left to guess where our room was, no directions given or any signs. Generally the reception was unmanned, not 24hours as advertised. They also lock the doors at about 2am and don't open them again until about 8am as we had difficulty getting back in one night and leaving on the day of our departure.
Our room was at the front on the first floor and had 2 "balcony" type things. However we could only use one as one of them had a metal shutter pulled down over it which we couldn't raise. There is also a church right in front of the hotel. It's bell chimes between 9am and 11pm as far as we could tell. It got to be quite annoying as it doesn't chimes twice on the hour, which means that at 9am you get 9 rings at approx. 8.55 and a further 9 at 8.58, rather annoying if you want a lay in. (Although not the hotels fault).
The bar area is also very dark and appears pretty "local" and not very welcoming to foreigners, We discovered that we were charged higher prices than others in there. On our second night of drinking there we had a different bar man who didn't know the prices and showed us the price list. We were charged about half what we were the night before. The regular guy appeared whilst I was reading the price list and quickly snatched it away obviously not wanting us to see. Unsurprisingly we didn't drink there again.
Overall, value for money accommodation shame about the reception/bar area.

Hotel Comapedrosa is a traditional local hotel. It is basic but clean and we were well looked after by helpful staff. It is in an ideal postition for the gondola, 50-60m away, and central for town. It is opposite Deja Vu retaurant (decent food at a good price) and an Irish bar. The hotel has its own ski kit lock up which is free (deposit required) and saves you hiring the cages at the top of the gondola for 10euros.
Rooms: Medium to small, warm and basic but clean. Bathroom Ok with shower over bath and a bidet. One side of the hotel is a gushing stream which can be heard in the room but you soon get used to the low level noise. If you have a room at the front of the hotel you may be subject to revellers leaving nearby bars in the early hours - not a problem if you are one of them but it will wake the light sleeper (so I was informed)
Food: We were half board. The usual continental breakfast but no hot option! A toaster and microwave but no sausage and beans - if this is your preference. We found the spread adequate. Evening meal was better with plenty of choice. There was always a tasty hot soup; several sea food options throughout the week; the usual salads and cold meats. a la carte; no it wasn't - canteenish; yes....but there was always plenty and we never had a bad meal or choice. A litre of bottled water and a bottle of local wine cost 12 euros with the meal. Ok it wasn't Chateauneuf du pape but it was quoffable. I was in a party and staff were always pulling tables together so we could sit together.
Bar: Live music once a week, which wasn't bad, and the bartender made excellent and LARGE shorts and cocktails but there was a small premium to pay for this.
Cheap and cheerful - but not bad. As they say: you pays your money you takes.........

about as close as you can get to the gondola. i was half board. food was OK. typical European buffet for breakfast and evening meal. nice selection but a bit repetitive. i ate herefour times in the week and twice at the Argentinean steak bar across the road. the bar is ok in the hotel but there are a few more in te town so probably better to go there.
i cant complain about much in the hotel it was a good price in a great location. would use again.
i was in the roof room which was classed as budget i think. it was fine

Stayed here for one week in Jan 2013 with Neilson Ski Holidays. The ideal location just 50 yards from the gondola station makes this a very tempting choice but I urge you to think twice. If you value a good night's sleep, comfortable beds and a hot tasty meal at the end of a long day then go elsewhere.
Breakfast was adequate with a cold continental style buffet so you could eat as much or as little as you needed. Reception was rarely manned but they are able to provide ski lockers for €10 deposit. If you have a snowboard, don't use them, my board got scratched as they aren't well made. You can also get a remote control for your tv for a similar deposit. TV's have a built in DVD player but difficult to operate due to positioning.
Dinner is hit and miss. A hot meal is definitely needed after a long day on the slopes but you won't get one in the Comapedrosa. The servery isn't used properly, even the plates stored inside only reach lukewarm. There will always be a pasta dish, a meat dish, a fish dish and some veg put out but the lids are left open so the heat escapes quickly especially in the cold dining room. Kids will have chips and pizza or chicken nuggets and the like but these are left to go cold. Desserts are bought in and defrosted though mine was still frozen in the middle. Drinks have to be paid for in cash each night and you also had to handover a meal voucher each night, very odd arrangement.
The rooms are basic. At the front of the hotel you get street noise which many complained about having suffered from disturbed nights caused by bar crowds making their way home. The back facing rooms overlook a fast flowing river which sounds like an air con unit going 24/7. The heating was sporadic, sometimes too hot to get under the bed covers or none at all when you needed to dry off clothing.
The telephone in our room didn't work and when I pulled the bed out I found there was a power and phone socket hanging off the wall.

Arinsal itself is a very friendly resort with a good but limited choice of bars and restaurants many with English speaking staff. We would definitely go back again but to a different hotel. There are free buses to different resorts and the trip to Caldea Spa was worth every euro!
If you are considering a trip here please bear in mind, you get what you pay for!

Spent a week at the Comapedrosa with my 20 year old son and his 20 year old friend. We had a fantastic time. The hotel is basic but small and cozy and clean, friendly staff, most of them english. Our room had a balcony lcd tv with dvd an usb built in an a bathroom with shower over.
Plenty of room for the 3 of us. We only slept in it anyway.
I would say it was more like a hostel than a hotel. Would definately recommend it and return if visiting Arinsal again. We where half board which was as much as you can eat with a great choice every night and the food was great. you has about 4 choices of main course at dinner plus soup, salad, bread, dessert. I can say the food was great as i had all choices every night, Well i had to keep up my energy for skiing.

Location is probably the best in Arinsal, you fall out of the front door and can through a stone and hit the ski lift.

If you want a proper 4 star hotel then pay the high price, if you want good value for money, lovely food and a great skiing experience then just book this hotel.

Beer here the cheapest in town as well and i lost count of the amount of free shots the boys got, yes i had a few as well.

We never had a problem with any noise apart from a few nights when some young lads would go to there room shouting but then you can get this in any hotel unless your the only guests, !!!!

Very disappointed with this hotel....don't go if you want to sleep! The hotel has a bar and we didn't get to sleep before 4am because of the noise. The first room we were given was the size of a box and the bathroom door was hanging off. We bumped into our neighbours as they also changed rooms. We were witness to waitresses having a daily battle to close the dining room while we were eating our breakfast and one day our son couldn't get into the dining room because of this ongoing battle. They also charge 20 Euros to use the safe in the room - extortionate! Our Neilsen rep was aware of this but chose not to get involved. Needless to say we wont travel with them again or go anywhere near the Hotel Comapedrosa!

Room Tip: Don't go there

Staying at Comspedrosa with Neilson skiing on last minute holiday.
Fantastic location about 1 min walk to gondola up to the mountain, great little bar with pool table and table football as well as a selection of après skiing places nearby.
Breakfast is cereal, rolls, ham, cheese etc, dinner soup/salad buffet followed by choice of three basic mains and a pastry/ yoghurt dessert. Food not excellent but perfectly adequate for post skiing hunger and Lucy the waitress superb.
Rooms are basic, twin beds, wardrobe, bathroom but have flat screen tv with DVD player so really all you need. In response to some reviews saying beds were uncomfy they are firm, which I prefer, so no complaints there.
Only complaint and reason for 4* not 5* review is that our room faced the road which gave us a lovely balcony with great views of the mountains, gondola, shops, etc but was right above the bar so sleep was disturbed every night at least 4 or 5 times with revellers exiting!! Also opposite a beautiful church whose bell was pretty loud every hour. Good 8am wake up call but I would suggest requesting a quiet room away from the front of the hotel.
All in all a real gem, food ok, rooms basic but location and value a complete winner. Highly recommended!
