The hotel rooms are very large heating is to good so opening the door in the night was required. the hotel is situated near a chairlift but sadly was broken the whole length of our stay. Breakfast was served very late he struggled to get to ski lessons on time about 20 of us had the same problem so they moved it 45 mins which was a great help.

Room Tip: They are all good ;)

So Having given this 3 stars I ought to list the good and bad about this place. A real mix of revues about rooms which I may be able to assist with as we were a group of 33. Ranging in age from 5 through early and late teens, thirties, forties, fifties and sixties. Rooms were of mixed quality ours for myself, my wife and my 5yr old daughter was small, with a rubbish view and smelled musty, others in our party had much nicer rooms. So having seen a few I would say they range from high 2 star to low 4 star. The reception and ground floor/bar is spacious with loads of room to spread out, clean and bright but the drinks prices were crazy, a vodka and coke was over 7€, considering in a shop not 100m a way a bottle of good quality vodka is just 6€ that is obscene. Food was great with a huge selection at breakfast and evening meal. Cereals, dozens of teas, breads, cakes, yoghurt, fruit etc etc etc and the full English you just can't go wrong. Evening meal was similar always having pasta, salad, kids dishes, chips, fish, several other mains and steak and chicken cooked to order. Great location and nice atmosphere.
So food, location, and spacious lobby were great in fact food and lobby being so good is the reason it has 3 stars. The major down points were the following :-
- bar prices, we are a large group and between us put a large amount over a bar but this was just too dear they probably could have made an easy 1500€ from our group with reasonable prices, instead we smuggled in drinks, we wouldn't normally but we have been to Andorra before and these prices were criminal - €4 for a kids coke!
- raw chicken from grill cook and uninterested manager.
- apathetic staff throughout hotel.
- stinky room from the 70's
- only one 4 man lift working (fun when 33 of you arrive together and then again when you leave again)
- off site shared ski lockers (no I don't want my £700 of snowboard in a locker where other hotel residents will be chucking their hire gear with gay abandon thanks).
- rooms too hot, very little control and as soon as you leave cleaners turn heating up to full blast again. (Common problem when skiing but worse than most).
In short I wouldn't return which is a real shame because it doesn't need much to make a low 3 stars a good 4.

Room Tip: Get a balcony.

Good place. Disappointed that it cost to use room safe. Great breakfast and dinner buffets with change in menu each time. Spent 2 nights and would again as long as I had transportation. Other travelers described a variety of room arrangements.

I stayed a week here with my husband and step-daughter for our skiing holiday. The hotel was in a prime position, only 200 yards from the gondola station. In previous holidays we've had to rely on hotel transport to get us to the slopes so this was a real bonus. The hotel was very clean and the staff were all extremely friendly. The food was brilliant, lots of choice every night and breakfast consisted of both cooked and continental which is great because there's nothing worse than getting ready for an energetic day on the slopes and all you're offered is croissants and cakes.
There were two jacuzzis, a sauna and steam room available at no extra cost which was really needed after a tiring day. A couple of afternoons when we arrived back to the ski locker room we were greeted by staff offering us homemade hot chocolate which was so rich and thick, it was amazing!
Overall we had a great week staying at this hotel and if we go back to Soldeu we will definately stay here again!

Pros - Location only 100 metres from Soldeu ski lift.
Excellent freshly cooked breakfast and friendly staff.
Cons - 2 star rooms, overheated and poorly furnished (no shower curtain, no chairs or bedside cabinets). Outside noise from pubs and clubs and pedestrians.
The evening meal left a lot to be desired, the food was of low quality and badly prepared.
This hotel however is one of the cheaper hotels in Soldeu

The context

We are a couple that picked Soldeu because of the good reviews of the slopes and the tuition. We previously went to Austria so were used to the smaller hotels and Spa facilities. We picked the Himalaia because of it's proximity to the gondola and that it had free spa facilities...
We paid £511 for half board and flights through Crystal /Thompson at the end of March. The ski conditions and quality of the pistes were the best we've had.

The Good

1) The hotel is a 3 minute walk (even with skis) to the Soldeu gondola, and provides free storage facilities. They don't have a heated boot room but we took our boots up to our warm bathroom every evening and that did the trick.

2) Friendly staff- they are dealing with a lot of people but still manage to clear tables and seat people in good order. They also have good front of house staff. We were put in a room on the first floor at the front at first and we could hear the band from the bar below- we were quickly moved without fuss. The problem is that the hotel feels rather soul-less, even with the friendly staff, it is still a big ski group factory.

3) Large rooms. All the rooms are of ample size, so of this is something you value then it's a good point. We however spend little time in our room so this wasn't something we personally valued as much

The bad

1) The rooms and en suites are not the cleanest we have been in. It seems like they've just had a wipe per and not a proper clean- this was our first impression when we first came in to the rooms, and was the case for both rooms we saw.

2) The spa facilities was one of the main reasons we booked but were very disappointing. It's on the first floor but feels like the basement, the atmosphere is not very relaxing, and both the small sauna and small steam room had faulty doors so they were not as hot as they should have been.
We were also not use to the fact that families brought their children in ( and sometimes un-supervised) which added to the non-relaxing atmosphere. They could have tried by adding music and providing nicer loungers - instead of the broken one in the corner.
The gym was equally as appalling, the equipment was unsafe and tired. They'd be better off changing it to another kids room and have the spa adults only.

The Ugly

The food. I must say at this point that the breakfast was fine. Plenty of selection but i would t say it was 4*. Although we paid for half board we only ate in the restaurant on the Sunday evening we arrived.
The evening food was just horrible canteen-style, over salted and beige. Yes, there was a selection of different dishes, but they were all unhealthy, cook-from-frozen and bad. I think the main reason people have put good reviews about the food is because if you have kids then it is 'easy' to please them with the selection, and the majority of people at the hotel were large families that welcomed the fact they didn't have to cook for a week. It certainly wasn't 4* standard - probably not even 3*
The main reason for my review title is the mealtime 'experience'. The restaurant atmosphere  is less 'calm' and more 'creche'. There is no music, bad strip lighting and reams of families adding to the canteen feel. I doubt any couple would find it a nice experience to have dinner in.

After that experience, we ate at Fat Alberts, the Merlot and the Bruxelles, which are brilliant and good value restaurants all very close to the hotel.

In summary, we would definitely return to Soldeu, and there are enough set menu restaurants with good food to go to a 2 or 3* B&B or self catering apartment.

I agree that this is not a typical 4* hotel in terms of luxury, but we have just come back from a week there and had a really positive experience. Maybe some specifics will help give context to previous reviews, as having read other reviews I wasn't overly optimistic. So, the main topics...
1. Heat - yes, the rooms are warm. We turned off the radiator on arrival and usually opened the window for 20 mins or so when we got back from skiing each day and the room was perfectly comfortable once we did this.
2. Noise - we were on the second floor. We got no street noise from outside when the windows were closed. We did however hear music from the Harp bar below - this seemed to stop shortly after midnight. Anyway, we didn't find it particularly invasive but if it is something that would bother you, ask for a room on a higher floor.
3. Food - the best dinner buffet we've had in any hotel, including other 4 stars! Vast options at dinner time - pasta with at least two sauces - a salad buffet with dressed and undressed salads which varied every evening - about 6 hot dishes which generally included vegetable, meat and fish dishes (the local meat dishes were particularly tasty) - freshly cooked grilled meat and fish - chips - some additional rice/vegetable dishes to accompany the grills - a vast array of desserts including cakes, mousses, fresh fruit and a selection of 4 ice creams. Food was generally hot as dishes were replenished frequently. Occasionally the less popular dishes (e.g. pasta) cooled a little but the microwave solved that problem. Seriously if you can't find something to satisfy you then that's really not the hotel's fault. We like nice food and having read the reviews, we expected to go out most nights however in the end we only went out once (to the Merlot) and actually preferred the food in the Himilaya! Also the staff were really efficient with getting tables ready etc. (we never had to wait for a table) and they were all really nice and friendly - especially Julia!
4. Location - super location. I don't walk fast in ski boots and even with having to walk out through the basement car park, it was less than 5 mins walk to the gondola and only very slightly uphill. Very convenient to bars etc., Soldeu is a small resort anyway.
5. Rooms - very spacious with lots of storage and huge bathrooms. Loved being able to have a bath after skiing and no shortage of hot water. By far the largest room we've ever had on a ski holiday. My only complaint was that the springs on the mattresses were coming through which was uncomfortable. I took the blanket from the wardrobe and folded it on top of the mattress a few times to cushion it, but they really do need to be replaced. Everything was very clean although some of the paintwork was a bit worn.
6. Not directly related to the hotel, but what a super ski area for improvers/intermediates. I'm not a great skier and there were so many blue runs within my capability and which allowed me to travel around the ski area much more than I've done in other resorts. Soldeu over to El Tarter, up the chair to the highest point and back via Galle de Bosc and Duc was a personal favourite.
Overall, we (two couples) had a great time in Soldeu and would definitely return to this hotel.

Room Tip: If noise bothers you at night, stay higher than the 2nd floor.
