We arrived having booked for an evening table and were welcomed by Fabienne as if we were old friends. We felt as if we had stepped into a friend's home. The menu was exciting and the descriptions of the food fascinating. When our dishes arrived - Fois Gras followed by Sea Bass with cauliflower, then a cheese board were exquisite. The wine choice was also very good. This was by far the best meal I have had in a very long time. In fact, we enjoyed the whole evening so much, we immediately booked to return in a few days time, which is something I have rarely done. I am so looking forward to it. If you are visiting Monaco, make sure this is on your list to visit. La Montgolfiere is deserving of the highest accolade.

“A Perfect Meal”
Reviewed 28 December 2013

I don’t have many perfect meals, but this one was one of the few.

A small place with about 20 chairs. Family-run (husband in the kitchen, wife in the dining room). A chalk board for a menu. Three starters and six mains - and a very hard choice among them. We were there for lunch, but at night they offer a set price 3/4course menu. Rather than having to stumble through French, the lady spoke very good English and explained each of the dishes to us. Also, rather than pushing food, she cautioned us about ordering too much. So we had 2 starters between three and then three mains.

The first starter was home-made ravioli with bourrachi and mushrooms in a cream truffle sauce. Outstanding. The other was a Veloute (soup) of butternut squash with foie gras and magret canard. Also outstanding.

The mains were a very hard choice. Two of us has carre roast pork with sautéed artichokes and potato gnocchi in a dark sauce. A great combination complimenting one another and wonderful. We finished off all the sauce with bead. The other main was Loup (fish) in a champagne sauce with crumbled cauliflower for crunch and caviar. Wonderful, but thought the caviar made it a bit too smoky, so put that to the side.

Five desserts and one cheese plate. Had the crème brulee and panna cotta. Both wonderful.

No carafe of wine, but good choices starting at 31 Euros. However, many good bottles in the 30 Euro range. Our first choice (Sancerre) had just been delivered and couldn’t be chilled in time, so others were recommended, but all in the same price range. So no games trying to push a pricy wine to raise the bill.

Small family-run restaurant, chalk board menu sporting creative great food. My favorite type of place. If only they were in Brussels so I could go every week to see what they have. A small place, so always reserve to avoid disappointment.

There only place I have found in Monaco -Ville for a good meal.

What a fantastic find! This restaurant is run by a lovely couple, Fabienne and Henri Geraci. Henri the chef and Fabienne the hostess and what a wonderful team they make. Fabienne was very warm and happily translated the French menus into English for us making recommendations along the way and Henri remained in the kitchen producing the fantastic dishes.

The menu was kept simple with a choice of three / four for each course which is always a good sign in a small restaurant that the chef is cooking things from fresh ingredients and is taking care over each of the dishes. The result was some of the best food I've eaten. Simple but clever combinations of flavours cooked to perfection.

This little restaurant in the old town in Monaco only seats 20 but any bigger and it would lose its charm.

It's Michelin starred dining in an informal and warm atmosphere but at €130 for two including a good bottle of Chablis (including service) it's not Michelin starred prices.

We shall be returning!
