The building of the Hotel Hermitage in Monte Carlos is just amazing, though unfortunately the pleasure of this hotel does end when you have passed the front desk.

The cars were taken away by very friendly and very helpful concierge. We all checked in and were shown to our rooms. Initially our room looked fine we overlooked the marina with a fantastic view. Though it wasn't until later in the evening when we were getting ready to go out for dinner that we noticed that the bathroom walls had paint flaking off, mould under the rim of the bath, mildew on the ceiling, mould down the walls around the shower, chips out of the toilet seat, a heavily stained bath, large chunks taken out of the doors and very tatty looking paint work throughout the hotel.

This led me to contact the front desk, as the room was just under 1000 euros a night I wasn't going to allow this to pass. Firstly they said yes we are aware as this part of the hotel is yet to be renovated and the only other room they could offer was a smaller one at he same price which didn't have a terrace over looking the marina. Which led me to explain that I was not going to take a step down in the room grade as this problem had already inconvenienced me. Eventually we agreed a discounted price which certainly wasn't a substantial amount considering the condition of the hotel.

From what I could see this hotel is purely run on its past awards.

Just returned from a one nite stay(that is all I could afford!!)....the hotel is beautiful!!!! It is in a great location..about 2 minutes from the casino!! and there is a Monaco bus stop right in front of the hotel!! This is truely a first class hotel...great BIG rooms and beautiful furnishings!! The bathroom is luxurious and the beds comfortable! The rooms are top notch!!! They have a nice indoor pool...there is a shuttle that takes you to the beach(not a great one..rocky, small and no sand) and runs about every 20 minutes. Monaco is pretty hilly, and I would take the frequent, cheap buses to most areas not right near the hotel(ie port, palace)...Monaco is expensive, without many less expensive cafes like Nice. I think one full day is enough to see Monaco, unless you want to shop at Gucci and Prada all day!!!

This was a great hotel with a pretty good location. The staff were very accommodating as we had an infant that kept running around. Everyone was very very helpful. The room was extremely spacious, tall ceilings and so much closets space we could have moved in for a month. We searched all over the internet for rates and the best rate was through Amex at Euros 209 per night! Wow... we thought that they had it wrong. Great bathroom and a nice flat screen. My only negative here was that the hotel was a little quiet. Not much action here. I wasn't looking for a crazy party but the lobby bar was dead and there was no one was around. We walked around town a lot. I would have to say that Hotel de Paris was right in the center, steps from Casino and close to shopping. Great lively lobby, bar and restaurants. Also Hotel Metropole had the younger crowd but was very happening and is just next to a three story shopping center. This one also seemed great. Hotel Hermitage and Hotel de Paris do have some great views though
