“Non-smoking room smells like cigarettes”
Reviewed 3 April 2009

It is not conveniently located, cabs are not readily available. The management was not accommodating when I asked to check out early. My reason was that I had a 7:30am flight, for which no bus, train or helicopter schedule began early enough. Cabs to Nice are as much as 100 EUR, which is roughly the cost of a room! The bus was every bit as convenient and costs 16 EUR.

Splashed out on a one night stay in Monaco and this hotel fitted the bill. Not particularly cheap but by local standards was good value. Easy walk to the harbour and some shops. The staff were helpful and the room was tidy and clean. The hotel is on a busy road and driving in Monaco is quite a challenge. Breakfast was typical french quoisant and coffee. I would not stay in Monaco again unless someone else was paying.

The Ambassador Hotel is situated in a good shopping district with everything from souvenirs to high end retail. It is also next to the Palace and minutes from the port of Monaco. The spacious lobby has a decent decor with large sitting area. The hotel has a restaurant with typical Italian cuisine.

Room 49 (standard room at 160€) overlooked the hillside of Monaco. If you lean over the balcony you can see a street framed view of the port of Monaco and the sea. The room itself is nothing particular, but the red color of the comforter and matching curtains did bring the room together. The color made it feel more elegant than it would otherwise be.

Points of critic: the hotel does not have a luggage room and I was not informed that leaving my suitcases with them at the desk actually meant leaving my luggage in the stairwell that all guests used. It did not seem properly looked after at all. There is no full-lenght mirror in the room, nor are there handgrips available for getting in and out of the bath.

This hotel is appropriate for anyone: couples, young tourists, families with children (located a couple of blocks from the port with games and childrens' rides).

This hotel has an excellent location just steps from the Palace above and the Place des Armes bus stop (1.30 Euro if coming from Nice. From Jan. 1 will be 1.00 Eur. Ask the driver for this stop as it is not obvious if you don't know.)

I stayed here for one night based on reviews on this site so my expectations were suitably adjusted and met. I was here to scuba dive and the dive club was a 5 minute walk down to the Port from the Hotel so the location couldn't have been better for me. My stay also coincided with Monaco's National Day but the price was still reasonable. (I booked on Expedia.)

I checked in at 7:30 AM because I had an early morning dive. The receptionist initially told me that someone hadn't shown up the night before for their room and so she could check me in early but that she would still need to charge me as the check in was so early. (She didn't know the price for this but thought it was about Eur. 20 extra.) When I expressed surprise and told her that I was early because I had an early dive, she let me check in early.

My room was on the fourth (top) floor. The elevator was reasonably sized for Europe and all my bags fit inside in one go. My room was small and tired. The decor wass early 1980s. The mirror/closet sliding door had fallen off its rails. The bed spread and curtains were burgundy red. There was a nifty Phillips flat screen TV wich was the most modern thing in the room but none of the channels worked. (When I advised reception, they said they have reception problems with some cable channels but it was ALL channels that were on the blink in my room.) There is a small fridge with some minibar selections and also some chocolate biscuit and chips type snacks. The mattress was okay--not great but not bad and the same goes for the pillows.

There was a separate toilet room and a bathroom. There was no shower curtain in the bathroom. You have to shower behind a bit of wall alongside the bathtub so as not to get water all over the floor, but some still splashes over.

The room was clean but because of the tired carpet may not initially have appeared so.

My room was on the other side of the elevator shaft but the noise from the elevator shaft was still very loud. This was the biggest negative for me.

Service was friendly but not exceptional. The lady at reception has a knack of communicating directions so you can do without a map. Still, they put a map and tourist info. in every room.

They were in the middle of refurbishing their restaurant so it was closed. It is due to open again in December. Thus, breakfast which is normally downstairs in the restaurant was served in the room. A real treat.

This hotel is the best one in its street. Yes, it could do with renovating but its prices reflect that. If you are prepared for this, you will be pleased. Its not a hotel you would want to hole up in, but if you want a clean, functional place to spend a night or two while you explore during the day it is a good choice.

They advertise having WIFI throughout the hotel but I didn't test this.

This Hotel is fine as a base for a short stay in Monaco. My husband and I were there for the bank holiday weekend and we have no complaints. The hotel is in a good central location, was clean and the staff friendly.

We didnt eat in the hotel apart from breakfast, of which there was very little selection but we arent fussy, croissants did the job :)

There is no parking so if you park in a public car park make sure you request a parking tickets from the hotel upon departure and this will half the cost.

I would certainly stay there again.

This was another surprise outing to Monaco for me. I have always loved the place and wanted to go. The location for this hotel is great - near La Rascasse, Stars N Bars, and of course the Palace. It was a very special holiday as I was proposed to in the Palace by my partner, by the desk where Prince Rainier and Grace Kelly signed their wedding vows. Anyway, the hotel room we had was very small, dingy and could have done with brightening up. the bathroom was a good size but needed updating a bit - the shower was awful. The room was nothing like the one in the Hotel pics! The restaurant staff are a bit odd, the reception staff are nice though. Overall all I can say is the location is the best thing - near to train station and the market area which is brilliant.

I and my boyfriend went to Montecarlo in April.
The Ambassador is a very nice hotel closed to the station and to the old part of the city (the castle)
What impressed us the most is the tidiness of the room.
Take into account that the restaurant has a very good restaurant which is not expensive at all (compared to high prices of the city).
Next to the hotel there is a street plenty of nice stores (Morgan de Toi, Yamamay...)
I really suggest you to stay @ Ambassador you will never complain...I guarantee
