“Great hotel”

The Columbus provided us a great place to stay whilst in Monaco. We liked it that much we extended our stay. The staff were very friendly from the moment we arrived until we left. The room was very comfortable and clean. No faults at all.

On arrival at the hotel we were greeted with a smile from the concierge. We checked in and were shown to our room-which was fab after a long drive. I had e-mailed the concierge the day before for recommendations for restaurants-which they replied to promptly and booked me the restaurant I preferred-Quai des Artistes (which was a very good restaurant).

All the staff were friendly, the room was cleaned every day and nothing was to much effort. In fact we loved it here so much we booked an extra night. The other bonus was that the hotel ran a free shuttle service to wherever you wanted to got to in Monaco. Would definitely stay here again.

The only down side was the cost of the breakfast-which at 25 euros seemed expensive for the buffet breakfast.

Room Tip: Our room had a mountain view which was amazing

Although the hotel was perfectly ok it lacked any warmth or personality. The room was functional but completely soulless.
The concierge staff were absolutely excellent and couldn't have been more helpful.

Dear Guest, First we thought you were commenting about another hotel, as in 11 years, this is the first time somebody complains about the lack of personality and warmth of the Columbus, as this is exactly what the hotel is known for. The hotel has nice views from the rooms, and a pleasant and welcoming lobby.

However, everything else about the hotel is, with certain exceptions, decidedly average. If I could I would post pictures of the large cracks/holes in the wall. Or the extremely worn carpet in the room (it appears to be a trend on the entire floor we were one, and extremely notable in high traffic areas). Given the rates charged (although low by Monaco standards), it does seem a little odd to find such poor levels of maintance.

We choose to have dinner in the bistro. The food was average, and realistically no better than in a high street restaurant chain, the only difference being the €20 charged for a poorly conceived burger in this hotel. One of the waiters was inparticular surly. In no way unpleasant, just didn't seem at all happy to be doing their job.

Concierge staff were extremely pleasant during our two night stay. Always friendly, welcoming and happy to help. The reception staff however, on both dealings we had (checking in and out) seemed easily distracted, by both colleagues and phone calls etc.

With relatively few changes (improved maintance programme, staff development and recruitment together with menu selection), the hotel colombus could be very good. However those aspects are currently very notably lacking.

Dear Guest, we are sorry to hear that you were disappointing with your stay at Columbus. We do have a renovation schedule, we have completly renovated the conference facilities (which we are aware are no use for you of course), the kitchen and the restaurant. We will continue this renovation plan in the coming months. As for the restaurant, we would mention that our Chef has been trained in renowed hotels and restaurant and the menu reflects a certain level of quality, it's a shame you did not try his recipes and prefered to try the Burger menu. You would probably have noticed the difference with a high street restaurant chain. Nevertheless we thank you for your comments and have forwarded them to the different concerned departments, as our service can surely be improved. Best regards. C. Drollet

A great hotel with very polite & helpful staff & Nice decor. The hotel drove us to different places in their courtesy bus, the drivers were very nice, pointing out landmarks & places of interest. overall we had a great stay. Would highly recommend it.

This was our first time in Monte-Carlo. I went through all trip advisor reviews and decided to stay here. We paid around 500 Euros per night with Breakfast. We had a one bedroom suite on the 8th Floor for four nights with a corner view of the Sea and the Palace. The problem were the mosquitoes/fruit flies in the room. Dont know from where they came in as my wife made it a point to keep the french windows closed all the time. My daughter suffered some nasty bites. This was a problem throughout the hotel (including the reception).Other wise the hotel was really cool. Rooms were clean and comfortable!! I have to mention two extraordinary people who made the stay good. The first one was Jennifer from the concierge. She was constantly working & rallying her team to fit every guests request. The second was Hugo the restaurant manager who was very friendly and found a way to fulfill our requests. Thanks Guys!!
The Fontvieille area is really nice if you are with family as it is quiet and not crowded like the port hercule area. Clean play area for kids as it is in a residential neighbourhood with good restaurant choice at the port. We met some friendly expatriate residents at the park and the pool area.
We were there between the 16th to the 20th of August and it was very hot and humid. So, walking around was very exhausting. If the weather was pleasant it would have been better. A small car is necessary as it is really hard to find a taxi. The hotel shuttle is good but not always available. Alternatively local Bus service is efficient.

Stayed here once again for one night, this time for my wife's 50th birtday. I have reviewed this hotel previously but felt I had to again as The Columbus never disappoints. We had a 7th floor suite with TWO balconies ! It was wonderful with views of the Med and nearby gardens. We had a gorgeous meal in the evening sitting totally relaxed on the quiet terrace and the chef prepared a birthday cake for my wife which was delicious. A chorus of 'Happy Birthday' was sang by the restaurant staff and they gave us a complimentary bottle of after dinner wine which we really enjoyed....although we paid for the excesses the next morning with heavy heads !!! Anyway, after a lovely continental breakfast we took a stroll around Fontvieille and over to Carrefour for some last minute shopping, although I diverted to the motor museum which was well worth the 6 Euros entrance fee. A peaceful, air conditioned haven for motorheads ! Eventually we had to say goodbye to Monaco via the helicopter transfer to Nice airport ( Something you have to do before you die) !
Thanks Columbus.....It was a special stay !

Room Tip: Try a suite on a deal if possible. Lovely room
